Oh Man - That is to good When i was a kid i found an evinrude 4 cylinder - It seems like close to this vintage, but i believe it was much smaller than this motor. Do you know how small evinrude made 4 cylinder outboards that were in this style? That motor was in fine shape, i was just to young to realize it lol - if i had it today i am certain it would be running Absolutely awesome motor and video buddy - so good. The water spray out the top holes of the motor is just so awesome - We were running our 1967 6hp seahorse today - cheers
Runs and sounds great! I've restored a few mid 1950s Johnson and Evinrude motors but I'd like to find a Big Four, Speedifour, Speeditwin or a PO-15 for my next project.
Hello , i have an 1940 evinrude big four brand new ,in box , never turned in water , from the second war , got it in Paris .France . i think im going to sell it . contact me if you are intersted by
Man oh man, you just about had to be an engineer to run one back in the day. I'm guessing that was a spark advance up under the rope starter, mixture controls or fuel shutoff at your thumb. Direct drive. At least you had a twist throttle. Just like early cars and airplanes, the operator had to know the theory and the application and was actively running the engine at all times--literally, he was an engineer. Fortunately, you do know--you have the finest sense of tune and the best touch at running these things of anybody I've ever seen.
Thank you for the comments! It's not very complicated to run but you do have to constantly watch it. The complicated ones in my opinion we're the eltos but they are my favorite ones. I appreciate you watching the videos.
The previous owner drilled small holes in the plugs on top to make it easier to see that you had water flow. It has factory spray ports on the bottom side where he plugged. Not a good idea cause water won't drain out after use. So I plugged his holes and opened up the factory ones. Take a look at the other video I can did on the big four and you will see it spraying out the bottom of the cylinder head. Thank you for watching 👍
