Big thanks to Iain and Potato Man for adding their voices, and to John Neil Munro for writing "The Sensational Alex Harvey" biography, that inspired this video.
I saw Alex open for Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1975 in Roanoke VA. Still got pictures I took at that show. God, they were sensational!
David, my good old Mum in Wales saw your comment and asked me to reach out to you to see if you'd mind sending those photos over to her? Happy to compensate you for your time! Let me know!
Hi, if I can get my scanner to work I''ll do it.@@lukezagorski1
I'd love to see those pictures
Alex had amazing delivery as a vocalist, such depth of expression.
I saw the band at a small club, in Atlanta, back in 1974...if memory serves. I'd never heard of them. They opened with Faith Healer. It remains the best live show I have ever seen.
.
I saw SAHB twice, once at Charlton Athletic in 1976, where they were one of the support acts for The Who (and almost blew them offstage), and on their 1975 tour in Liverpool. The Liverpool gig was the best I've ever been to. They were magnificent.
I bought the first five albums (including the live album), but I didn't bother after that, as the band became less consistent.
Alex Harvey was a unique and special talent and a great entertainer.
My favorite show..in detroit, as a rocker, a person attending so many shows, was by far, the Sensation Alex Harvey Band. There is no other band in all the years that even came close. Long Live Alex!)
SAHB was one of my favorite bands as a high school kid in the Cleveland OH area. At that time ('73-'76) glam & hard rock ruled the radio and concert stages in places like Cleveland, Akron, Detroit and other Midwest towns. I saw Alex Harvey in 1975, though I don't recall him falling through the ceiling (!). I do remember him spray-painting Vambo Rools on the faux brick wall, the streetlight scene during Man In The Jar, Zal's mime outfit and a dozen bagpipers marching onto the stage during Anthem. An unforgettable, incredible show!
Yep, SAHB have a nice following in Cleveland, Ohio.
saw them at the Red Wings Barn; The Olympia. with Roy Woods Wizard, King Crimson and Slade, in '72. was hooked on all of them forever. Cheers from SpoCanada
I saw the Alex Harvey band at the Celtic ground doing a blockbuster hometown show supporting The Who even Roger Daltrey came on and said "how are we going to follow that"
I was there with my brothers and mates. SAHB especially Alex was awesome. The Who used lasers which was an amazing effect at the time. One of the best outdoor events and I’ve seen many. SAHB we’re a mix of hard rock, vaudeville and pastiche. Sadly missed. Vambo Rules (still)
I saw SAHB at the Preston Guildhall in 1975. It was a superb show, I was 14 years old. Alex did 'Framed' bursting through the 'wall' high in the scaffolding dressed as Hitler. Thank you for this video. Great memories.
I saw Alex after sahb at the Appolo Glasgow, performing as the New Alex Harvey Band in Feb 1981, I was just a boy, and Alex was awe inspiring!!
What a band, what a man, sure left their mark.you knew they were honest people very talented but humble with it.rest in peace alex
Just caught up with this - Amazing distillation on Alex Harvey's life - Thanks alot - Appreciated.👍
Excellent video. I am from the USA and I only discovered SAHB within the past 6 years, somehow they'd eluded me for ages. They're now one of my favorites. I wish there was more live footage available from them.
What are we talking about? The man and whole band were overlooked legends!!!
You and your channel totally rock friend. May you stay blessed and keep it up. How could I possibly purchase the biography of Alex? Much love and cheers from Greece, we all here love and are much aware of scottish and irish culture and your tormented people. Stay strong.
I bought the biography from eBay for very little.
@@ScottishFeature thank you so much!!!
Brilliant docu , never saw them live which pains me as the first album i ever bought was 2morrow belongs 2 me and is one of me favs rox albums but U can say the same 4 all there records , thanx 4 that and 2 Harvey and band , missed greatly
Thanks. I respected the band. What I saw was a unique artistry in the performance.
Was totally amazed and impressed the first time I heard the Sensational Alex Harvey Band in the early 70. Always a favourite when having having having a wee drink or many. Still got all the records on vynal. See you got the Alex striped shirt on in the show. sound man. Thanks.
Alex Harvey changed my life, 1000%. Not bad for a suburban Missouri kid.
I'd never heard of him.....untill Tom Bukovac ordered me to become aware in Homeskoolin. Force of nature. Thank you for this recap of his career.
This was bloody brilliant 👏🏻 I'd heard of Alex Harvey and had older friends who'd been to his gigs in the early 70's and said how mental buy brilliant they were - but never knew all this really cool stuff about him!! Excellently presented 😉 I listened to this whilst working on the computer so it was like having a biog read to me, in a deeply cool way 😎 all info went in! More of this would be fantastic 🥰 As for famous Scots?
I'll have a wee think 🤔
🍻
At one point if he'd brought out an album called "The Sound of Music" I'd have bought it waiting
to hear him slaying "The Hills Are Alive" and Zal's guitar screaming out "Doe a Deer"!
I've never heard any other singer have the delivery that Alex could produce.
Hammersmith odeon in 75 was a night that has stayed with me,they were great.
Great stuff! SAHB were a legendary act. Thanks for all of your work on this. :)
Tomorrow belongs to me, was one of my brother's albums that I remember very well.
I was fortunate to see SAHB play twice in LA. Indelible impressions.
you never said who it was, but I did have an idea it was Alex Harvey!!, great video
My dad knew Alex was also at Tommy Steele competition when Alex won for Scotlands Tommy Steele...my dad called him a wee creepy guy and said the only reason he became Scotlands answer to Tommy Steele was because he was the only one that had a guitar ??I was a young kid when saw Alex Harvey on Don kirshners rock concert ny dad nearly jumped completely out of his seat wheh cried Alex Harvey!Apparently he knew him i had no idea!Eventually i bought the album the Impossible Dream and Dream and was at a bit of a loss as to what kind of album i had bought but i kind of liked it!When older much so mnay decades later i became a renewed fan after getting all his works on cds and buying some used albums! They became one my faves!Albums where a variety !AND really enjoyed Framed etc and all the rest!Alex was alcoholic...seemed and died early heart attack!I was and still am a fan !Next thing I know decade later after I became avid fan band he's voted Scotlands man of thr people etc go figure 😮😅
Initially saw SAHB at Slade concert at Wembley, then saw around the Midlands…particularly a stunning gig at De Montfort Hall , Leicester .
The whole band were superb … unforgettable times .
SAHB and Slade at the same concert. I could cry with pure envy and jealousy!! ❤
Sweet, I have five of his nine studio discs. (as Sensational Alex Harvey)
Thanks for an in depth look at the life of Alex.
I had NEXT on 8-track tape!
I recently found Alex and fell in love with his version of the song "Next". Wow!
Bon Scott, another Scottish icon, was most definitely influenced by Alex.
I would've loved to have seen the SAHB.
I live in Perth. . . . . AUSTRALIA (not Scotland). The SAHB never toured, Australia, in their heyday.
In the mid 70's, there was a band playing around, the local Perth, pubs, called VAMBO.
Because of Vambo, I got into the SAHB.
I have been a fan ever since. I've got nearly every Record, Book and DVD, that I could get my hands on.
VAMBO ROOL.
great stuff
Give my compliments to the chef ….❤
My god
As a 15 yr old in a girls boarding school bloody loved it xx
Could have been worse - you might have liked The Bay City Rollers !
Why make such a negative misogynist comment to a post expressing so much love for such an extraordinary man? Hope you feel pleased with yourself because the rest of us think you're a small minded idiot. @@electricleg207
Great video. Lots of information I had never heard before.
The Faith Healer, pure magic!
HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY!
Hey Hey!)
Midnight Moses?
Should of mentioned that the bass player and drummer went to join the Micheal schenker group. Chris glen still plays with the band last time i saw them live. Anyway my fav alex harvey album is the impossible dream: Hot city symphony pt1/2, srg fury and anthem all killer tracks
Chris also plays with his own band The Outfit these days. They're great too
I just came across this phenomenal band, and knew nothing about them immediately was blown away!!! Very interesting to know that the drummer bass player went to play with MSG. Love that band too. … thanks
No other band like them. Totally brilliant band! Vambo rule!😂
I loved him
VAMBO Rules
Ya Bass
A small man but a giant onstage, the only other person i've seen live come close is Skin from Skunkanci.
If you have never heard of Alex Harvey ,you should be ashamed ,especially if you are a musician !
