So many great Styx songs. Blue Collar Man, Renegade, Babe, Too Much Time on My Hands, Come Sail Away Snowblind, Where Do We Go From Here, Lady.
every song on this album is an absolute banger; a true masterpiece from start to finish !!!!
Exactly what I was gonna say. Come Sail Away, Fooling Yourself, Castle Walls, etc. Also Suite Madame Blue, Crystal Ball, Lady, Babe from other albums.
Oh Man...when this group came out with "Come Sail Away"....man...I for got all about Led Zeppelin. And then Grand Illusion album...Wow...what a Masterpiece!!!!
loved Styx but not that good
Crystal Ball is an excellent Styx song
Suite Madam Blue from their Equinox album I think you’d like it.
Yes! But make sure you listen to the version with Prelude 12 you should always listen to the intro it sets the mood for the song.
Yes! Love Styx and Grand Illusion. Still have my original album. ✌
Saw them in concert, promoting this album back in the late 70's, awesome show!!
There were a few stories in 1977 when this album was released that this song and album saved some people from committing suicide. Hope you get to more songs from this album. They are all excellent. It's a masterpiece.
What a fantastic album!!!
Ohhh crap just one of my favs just a wonderful cut!!!!!!! dude you gotta do Crystal Ball!!!!!
You gotta do "Castle Walls" and/or "Queen of Spades"!
Just listened to these because I hadn’t heard them before, I really liked “Castle Walls”, so thanks! The other one was solid.
Both a couple of my favorites
Not a lot of folks will ask for it but if you want to see a bit of the Styx versatility check out their song SNOWBLIND.
Yes Tommy and JY!!! 👍
The Grand Illusion album was released a few days before my 11th b-day. Release date was 7- 7 - '77. It became and has remained as my #1 favorite album ever. My first concert was seeing Styx in 1979 on their Cornerstone tour at 13 years old.
If you want marching band sound react to Fleetwood Mac Tusk. Legit done w the UCLA band in the 70s. Video is the way to go.
Actually the USC marching band, but close enough for government work.
@@misterfugazi4110 OMG you're right!!! Duh!! Not sure how I screwed that one up! LOL Thanks!!
They were a favorite band of mine. Styx put on a great show in concert. They did have lots of keyboards. I appreciate your take on what the "Grand Illusion" is about.
If you like Styx you’ll also like YES, BOSTON, KANSAS.
Thank you very much for reaction.
Another Styx song you should check out is Queen of Spades
Prelude 12/Suite Madam Blue
Prelude 12 is the intro to Suite Madam Blue so you definitely check out the version that has it because not every one does.
Blue Collar Man, Man in the Wilderness, Crystal Ball. Styx Rocks!!!
Grand Illusion was the second LP that I got for Christmas along with Pink Floyd DSOTM. Wonderful holiday! Thanks again Mom and Dad
What a GREAT band. You hit the meaning spot on. You never disappoint. Keep it going. 😎
Four back to back platinum albums, a dozen or more big charting singles. They owned the seventies and eighties! With an exception of one or two songs, every song on this album got HUGE airtime on radio when it was released!
I wore out a cassette of this album, in a 1970 MGB, on a Pioneer Supertuner, with Jensen Coaxial speakers, and a Realistic EQ. Brings back many memories and a slight acid flashback.
Fantastic album from a group of extraordinarily talented musicians.
Last year I saw Dennis DeYoung in concert performing The Grand Illusion from start to finish for the 40th anniversary of the album’s release.
We lost Gerry Marsden of Gerry and the Pacemakers this weekend.
Please react to one of their songs that I absolutely love called"Don't let the Sun Catch You Crying".It's a short song as most songs recorded in the 60s were, but so beautiful.R.I.P. Gerry.
MOODY BLUES - The Voice (live), posted by Axey Destroyer and Ride My See-Saw (live - 1968). totally PROG ROCK! Great band! ☮🖤🤘 😎 reaction Chod!👍
Got to see them do this live way back in 1978, during their "Pieces of Eight" tour, at Convention Hall in Asbury Park, NJ. Great show!
Cool!
I saw them at Saratoga performing arts center! 👍
@@timbillings6884 I saw them a second time in 1983 for the "Kilroy was Here" tour also.
@@vernhoke7730 nice! 👍
Johnson City TN same '78 tour
It is the opening act to a Circus......and the lead singer is the master of Ceremony letting everyone know that Life is The Grand Illusion and try not to get caught up in surroundings and people you think have it made.....just remember we as human being are all the same deep inside.
@Barstool Prophet As the Shamans and Aborigines' said of old....the Life is the Dream....the real life is on the other side. And We are right.
@Barstool Prophet Oh Absolutely and not just me or you but 7.5 billion people on this planet...they just don't know....frankly many don't care.
Sweet Madam Blue.
Good reaction! Here are a couple of "Styx" suggestions that are very different, to show you this band's range: "Suite Madam Blue" (epic, proggy), and "Boat On the River" (sort of a folk-rock ballad).
If you ever get a chance to see these guys live in concert, please take the opportunity and you will be amazed.
Deep inside were all the same!!!!!!!!
Same

" Man in the Wilderness " is another great song along the same lines.
Absolutely! Man in the Wilderness(Expanded Version) for all the extra sauce.
I never get tired of Styx
One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite rock bands.Other great tunes by them are Fooling Yourself, Blue Collar Man,Too Much Time On My Hands,Suite Madame Blue!
I can see the marching band comparison for sure. Never totally loved these guys but I did really like “Crystal Ball”, “Suite Madame Blue” and the guitar work in “Man in the Wilderness”.
I had this album when I was a kid. Was completely blown away
I always got kinda of circus vibe from the song even when the singing started it was like he was a ring master under the big top introducing you to what was about to come and like a circus every thing is “grand “ and in this case life is like a circus, one big grand illusion
Exactly!
"Step right up, step right up, ladies and gentlemen!"!🎩
Castle Walls and Man in the Wilderness by this band are a must.
Listen to Miss America off this album. One of the very few that James Young sings. Just rocks!!!
Hey Man, I watched your reaction video, you said you were in a marching band and I take it
you were percussion ? I'd like you to look at a few drummers solo's. I never took a drum lesson in my life, didn't take band in school but these are the drummers that inspired me to
pick up a set of 7A sticks ! 1st is Kiss (live) the song 100,000 Years, 2nd is Grand Funk
Railroad (Live) Mark Don & Mel 69-71 the song is T.N U. C. and 3rd is Black Oak Arkansas
Raunch & Roll Live the song is UP. I went crazy like these guys ! LOL Hope you enjoy and I didn't read ya wrong !
Good reaction and you clearly listened to and got the meaning of a song with something to say.
Organ lovers are blown away by Little Fugue In G/Father O.S.A. From their earlier album Stxy2
Suite Madame blue, come Sail away
Crystal ball and snow blind
This is in my top ten albums
Loved it! More!
When I saw them ... They opened the show with this. It was perfect! Something that just stands out when I hear it. If you haven't heard it yet...check out "Renegade" Styx is great prog band.
New to channel. You have to checkout Styx live in Cleveland with a complete youth orchestra
Styx was my favorite band when I was 12.. then U2 carried the torch for me into adulthood.
Hey Chod! Howzit Brah! Since you're on this album, check out Miss America! Styx has a lot of good songs, but imo Miss America is their hardest Rocker! ☮🤙
Loreli , Light up, Suite Madame Blue
You need to try some REO Speedwagon
☮️💜
I loved your reaction!
This song was the intro song for the concept album of the same name. It’s a sort of gateway song setting the stage for the remaining songs which are similar in theme about the illusions of life. My recommendation is to step through the songs in order on the album. You’ll see the 3 songwriters and singers of the group. 😎😎
I press hard to try FUNKADELIC!!!!
Tommy Shaw came up with some sweet lead licks, this whole album is great, "Pieces Of Eight" is also a great album, and "Equinox".....
Great song and album cover.
Watch drum cam of Todd Sucherman playing this in concert.
Re: the 'marching band'/'orchestral' thing, I was just saying it reminds me of a fanfare.
Grand Illusion was their last good album. Early stuff only: Styx II, Chrystal Ball, Equinox (Light Up, Lorelei) after that . . Mr Roboto?! no thanks
Styx is kind of a aquired taste. I always come back to styx.
They have much better songs than this.
