- A PERFECT DAY in Newport Rhode Island - A Travel Dream, Sailing & Exploring | Harbors Unknown Ep. 34
Newport. The City by the Sea on Aquidneck Island in the smallest state in the union, Rhode Island. The self-proclaimed sailing capital of the world. Where the wealthy built their summer “cottages” in the latter half of the nineteenth century. And where thousands flock every summer to tour said “cottages”, meander down the iconic Cliff Walk along the coast, soak up the salty air during a sail on an America’s Cup yacht, eat endless amounts of seafood, especially clams or quahogs, the term for the larger variety, and stroll the cobblestone wharfs.
This week we're back in Kristin's home state, where Fabio lived for almost 15 years and where we got engaged, Newport. And we're sharing our favorite things to do in this picturesque New England town. The Cliff Walk, brunch at Castle Hill Inn, watching a New York Yacht Club sailing regatta, sailing on Intrepid, an America's Cup Yacht, and enjoying a delicious dinner at the famed Black Pearl restaurant. Watch now to learn the best things to do in Newport, Rhode Island.

If you're new here, Harbors Unknown is the story of two dreamers, Kristin and Fabio Potenti, and our French Bulldog dog Yoda. We sold our home at the beginning of the pandemic (May 27th, 2020) and moved aboard our #Seawind1600 #catamaran, Wanderlust, in September. We plan to sail her to Harbors Unknown, and explore the world’s vast cultures through food, a common thread amongst people everywhere. Connecting with people and places through the local cuisine, and showing how those dishes can be cooked on a boat with limited space and resources. We share the adventures of #boatlife and how it’s possible to live an #alternativelifestyle that provides freedom and fulfillment. We have just set off on our world voyage, after exploring the beautiful waters of #SouthFlorida, the Florida Keys, and the Bahamas. Subscribe now to join our #sailingadventure.

It is a wonderful treat!
I was there when we won the cup in 1983, and again in another travels in about 88/89 when I knew a girl from Boston. I'm sure it's very different but I could kinda recognise the different wharfs. This Aussie spent plenty of time in NE in the 80s. Great days
That must have been such a great experience Peter! Thanks for watching our video!!
Love the sail on the 12 meter. Epic fun. Best always.
We really enjoyed it, a piece of sailing history!
Michael, we do similar day trips on a few of the Aussie 12 meters on Sydney Harbour. Massive sails, narrow hulls, no electric winches. They are great.
Did all the plumbing in the kitchen rehab years ago at Castle Hill Inn,
Wow! It must have been a good job and interesting to see the place from that perspective.
Looks like so much fun!
We had a great time! Newport is such a fun town!!
Thanks for the tour 😃 but you’ve made me hungry again showing off all that delicious seafood 😉🥂
😂😂 we’re so glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching David!!
Really enjoyed this video. Thanks for showing me around Newport . I intend to visit after all this virus business is over. I also like how you include your restaurant visits to the video... great job guys.
We’re so glad you enjoyed the video Geoff! Newport is a fantastic town, I’m sure you’ll have a great time. Thanks for the feedback on the restaurant parts. We love to travel and try new restaurants and want to share our experiences. Thanks for watching!
Great video. The American Flag on a mast was a great sight to see. So cool! The restaurants in Rhode Island are great. Very unique. I've driven through the area dozens of times in my travels to NY, Connecticut, Massachusetts, & New Hampshire. Downside, to many people there. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you two had a great time there.👍😎👍💕
Thanks Pete! We loved the American flag on Wild Horses, it was so beautiful. I’m glad you’ve had a chance to check out this area. It is truly unique, though yes there are a lot of people. Thanks for watching!
Really enjoyed this, especially seeing how the other half live in Rhode Island. Your video making craft has really grown and are making the stories really enjoyable. Congratulations.
We’re so glad you enjoyed the video!! Thanks for the compliments on our video production. It’s always a work in progress. 😊
So much information in your videos, thanks.
We’re so glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks so much for watching!!
Did you plan to be there during the regatta? Was it difficult to book a slip then, or did the pandemic make it less crowded than usual? Thanks for showing all this, especially the museum visit and the cliff walk!
We didn’t plan to be there during the regatta. We were just lucky! It was pretty early in the season so there was still availability. The beginning of June was the first time people were put and about since the start of the pandemic so the town overall was pretty busy especially on weekends. We’re so glad you enjoyed the video!!
