- Spot is a new smaller version of the Spot Classic robot, weighing 55 lbs dripping wet (65 lbs if you include its arm.) Spot is all-electric (no hydraulics) and runs for about 90 minutes on a charge, depending on what it is doing. Spot is one of the quietest robots we have ever built. It has a variety of sensors, including depth cameras, a solid state gyro (IMU) and proprioception sensors in the limbs. These sensors help with navigation and mobile manipulation. Good luck with that, I doubt bananas will be around long enough as waves of fungal infestations are destroying plantations forever and as yet we don't have any solution other than burning down infected land and blacklisting those sites from any future growth.
Hopefully we'll engineer a new species to replace the cavendish, but it didn't last long as it was also a replacement for another species which went extinct from the very same fungi.

No, im pretty sure it legit slipped on the banana peel. I cant blame it though. If it actually had proper feet that's larger than the banna people there no way it would have slipped. But its feets are just stubs. And the banana peel is on a very smooth floor. And it was also doing a sharp turn.

These are the future for aged care of people in their own homes. I see them mainstream for this application around 2025.
No mistakes (apart from bad programming) and available 24/7 as they could recharge briefly when dormant if even for a few minutes
They will be affordable in the developed world and i see no limits to their ability to monitor and provide for your daily needs as a less than mobile aged person in their own home or care facility.
Yes i'm certain there will a whole new industry spring up of "value add accessories" for these robots
And anti hacking will be one of them to prevent the kiddies taking control and getting an early inheritance perhaps by shortening the elderly parents lifespan.
The other accessories i will leave up to peoples imaginations

I love the sound this thing makes when it falls. Just a single soft clunk. There's no mechanical sounds like it's lost orientation, no metallic clanking. It sounds great, like it's built to take it. And of course it is.

But actually thats the point...i think it will be problem for many peoples in future to resist the comparing with nature life. Look at it, these are first walking machines definitelly not looking like some nature beings, but still here are first comparison to animal. Adding static face they simply humanized it. Can you imagine real ROBOT in the future? With all face expressions, equipped with neural network learnings which can answer you like a real human? It will be still cold machine, but learned to interact with peoples but without emotions... That's creepy

I think they may actually have two sets. At the beginning of the video, the robot doesn't have the head attachment. That little caged black box in the front probably has all of its main sensors, and the head has extra "eyes" for finding objects

I like how they showed it falling at the end to ease people's fears of these things hunting us humans down like invincible bullet proof cheetahs in the future.
This is not the finished version. In only a few years not much can stop them.
They can easily mount some armor on it along with a firearm.
Worse still, they could eventually develop some kind of countermeasure for banana peels.
If we did create "sentient" robots, we would've also developed a way to override a robot before it commits a crime against the laws of robotics by that time.

BostonDynamics never ceases to amaze me at how natural their robots move, I mean I can't even begin to think about how complex the programming might be, and to think they do it so well.

Just a few weeks ago, I saw the latest adaptation of "The War of The Worlds" that featured a robot like this. This type of technology (if used in a military role) is very worrisome. It also would have some applications in Search and Rescue as well.
