  • In our Real Food series, we explore the rise of the organic food industry. More people are willing to pay premium prices for food grown without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers despite the fact the science behind the purported health benefits remains unsettled. John Blackstone speaks to the founders of Amy's Kitchen, one of the pioneers of the organic food movement.

I've been eating Amy's Kitchen frozen meals, twice every week for the last 15 years. It's always delicious. I am never disappointed, never bored. When a business is heart-centered and not just run not for money, it shows. What a success story!

Their food is top level. I have never tasted anything made by them that I did not like. Everything is perfectly seasoned. I never have to add extra salt or any other seasoning! They are amazing. I hope they expand and prosper because they are literally the only frozen meals I ever buy.

I tried the Mexican meal and it was very good. Made a salad with it and yum. Trying the burritos next, gluten free. Hope they come up with more gluten free meals. I did not think a Mexican meal could taste so good without meat but I was wrong. Will be stocking up on these.

I wish they would use olive oil instead of other bad oils. Sunflower oil organic but is it cold pressed or expeller pressed then okey. I noticed that on ingredients list it says organic sunflower/sunflower oil. Not good that is like saying bad/good which is it. I thought they cared about health.
If something states Organic then it should be ALL Organic, they make enough money that they can afford really good oil. They say no chemicals but sunflower oil that is not cold pressed or expeller pressed Is chemically processed which is very bad for our health.

The dig at organic food was completely unnecessary and uninformed ("...despite the fact that the science behind the purported health benefits remains unsettled"). This belief is based on "studies" which are intentionally designed poorly so that they produce industry-friendly outcomes. For example, studies that are too short-term for health issues from harmful pesticides to manifest in the test subjects. There is a mountain of evidence supporting reasons to choose organic food: better health outcomes for food consumers, less harm to animals in the environment, less harm to soil organisms which are essential for growing food, etc.
