  • In this video, I'll show you how to create a children's book cover for your Amazon KDP book! We'll use Procreate on the iPad to create the cover.
    I'll go through figuring out your cover size, dropping in your artwork, adding text, and saving out your file so you can import it into Amazon KDP.
    Be sure to check out my other videos in this series for how to create your page layout, your spread, and save your pages as a PDF!

    Thank you so much Heather. I paid a great deal of money to learn graphic design and children book illustration in college. You taught me more in this video than I learned in college. Thank you so much for these videos and image instructions. Your voice , instructions and explanations are amazing. Thank you sooooooooooooo….much. Keep them coming.

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  Před 2 lety

      Hi, thanks so much!! I'm so glad you like my videos! I could do one on brushes, but all the brushes I use are other people's brushes! Would it still make sense to do that?
      I use Beejay Del standard inker streamline for my smooth, solid lines (like for a coloring page)
      For the last couple pages of my children's book which I did in procreate to match the rest of the book, I used the free brushes that come with this Skillshare class (you should do the lessons too so you know how to use them)
      www.skillshare.com/classes/Acrylic-Landscapes-on-the-iPad-in-Procreate/114188688
      For everything else, I usually use the brushes from Bardot Brush

    I love your videos!! I am so inspired now to finish my children’s book!! I was wondering why you don’t import the template and use it as a guide while you are making your cover? I have done this but find that sometimes it gets rejected, wondering if this is why you are not doing it this way?

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  Před 2 lety

      Hi! Thanks so much for your kind words! I'm so happy to inspire you! ☺️ I think when I first created a book for KDP, they didn't have the template files, because I don't remember seeing them then. So then I just did all the ones after that the same way. I will take a look at the template files and see if they would better!

    Hello hun thank u so much! I have a question. Do I have to change the text to pixels or will it turn out fine to just leave it and not rasterize it

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  Před 7 měsíci

      Hi! It's better to have the text rasterized because if you have it as actual text in your PDF, you don't know if Amazon may display it weird. When you have it rasterized you know it will show up how you see it in your file.

  • @lauriecunningham4481
    @lauriecunningham4481 Před 2 lety

    Hi, Heather, I love your videos! I just was wondering, though, if you meant to drag the right side of your text box to the edge of the canvas rather than to the right bleed guide you created. I thought the bleed guides indicate where the paper would be cut off, so wouldn’t the text be more centered if (after pulling the left side of the text box to the center line) the right side of the text box were dragged to the bleed guide rather than to the edge of the canvas?

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi! Yes you are right! Great catch! ☺️ Definitely line it up with the bleed guide. 🙂

    Question, after you add your cover art work into procreate….I zoomed in to get a closer look to see if my artwork is blurry and it is blurry but only when I zoom in, doesn’t look that way when I just upload it. Will this be a problem when printed ? Would you recommend me redoing the artwork? Thnks

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  Před rokem

      Hi Sharay, thanks for your question! It will always get blurry at some point when you zoom in, but if you created it at the proper resolution and dimensions it should be ok.
      However one exception is that for some reason Procreate is really bad at resizing, even resizing smaller! Or rotating, etc. So I would just try to stay away from that kind of manipulation, like using the select tool and resizing stuff or moving it around. But other than that - as long as you created it at the correct dimensions, it should be ok.
      Either way, I would at least just get this version uploaded and order the book and see it printed, and then if you do need to redo any of the pages you can do that and upload the new file.
      Hope that helps!
      Heather

    Hi there,
    A novice question: Can I use the dimensions (for the cover) you have used even if my book is not 32 pages long? Thank you.

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  Před rokem

      No, the cover size varies based on the thickness of the book. But all you have to do is plug in the # of pages into the formula in the video!

    Hi Heather. Is your book stapled or glued together ? Do I need to put words on the book spine ?

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  Před 2 lety

      Hi! It's stapled, and no you don't need anything on the spine. You need a lot of pages in order to have a spine thick enough for text, so don't worry about that.

    • @yup2602
      @yup2602 Před 2 lety

      @@HeatherCashArt thanks Heather. I wish it has got a spine but as it is a trial of book publishing. I wont fuss about it at this stage. It is going to be a 48 pages book 8.25x8.25. Do you think it will staple well ?

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  Před 2 lety +1

      It should be! And I should have said it in the video. But honestly in the past I've been lazy about it and just designed in RBG 😬 But if you want to do it the right way, definitely start in CMYK!
