Awesome experiment, Chris! I hope Milwaukee is watching. I'm going to get the low-profile version and do the same! 👍🏼
Done it yet and how is it working out?
Metabo also makes flat head angle grinders, even long neck variants and with variable speed. Only caveat: most of them have a power cord.
This is simply amazing
Great job
If Milwaukie is watching this
They should promote this guy and pay for his tools.
Again thank you for this video
Clever idea. I had never heard of flat head angle grinders before. I have had a few projects where I needed to get into tight spaces with my angle grinder and could not. I will definitely be buying one and also some of the rounded contour flap disks.
Epic tool mod. Hopefully Milwaukee is listening. This was a cool idea
Another way of doing it with a normal grinder is using a 9” disc on a 5” grinder, works a treat
this is why you don,t ask the internet for advice...
I've done it with 4 1/2", 6", 7" and 9"ers as well, always with one eye on the safety guys, ( Crosby is the a-hole I'm talking about ). You just have to be extra careful. stay safe
Very useful mod, great video!
Hey, Chris, that was a really slick swap. Let's hope Milwaukee is paying attention.
The only thing that your super-mega-ultra grinder is missing is X-lock. That would absolutely be the perfect grinder. But this video made me want the variable speed grinder from Milwaukee so I could do the same thing, switch heads with my flathead grinder. Dammit Milwaukee! Why couldn’t you just offer a grinder with both features! I think they only make 1 variable speed grinder too out of the 20 that they offer.
Usually I just use my band file
Nice to see tools that are easily user modifiable, and the hack makes all sorts of sense.
Oh, that looks so good. Some people bitch that welds shouldn't be ground but I always do as I feel it creates a stress riser that can lead to a failure later.
Welding teachers always told me never do it, my blacksmithing teacher that has decades of experience making large work with safety and codes in mind always makes everything smooth, polished, and patinaed. If you've got proper penetration and are building something attractive instead of load or impact bearing structure, GRINDER!!
Very clever!
Great video !!!!
Great hack and video. Mahalo for sharing! : )
Well done!
Well you just helped the research and development team at Milwaukee because I'm sure somebody is going to say hey I saw this happen and now they have to deliver if they're smart
That's awesome little trick I was thinking of a trigger switch with lock and variable control knob on my preferences
That intro had pucker factor to the max with the battery attached thumb over the switch and hand on the wheel 🫨
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻sweeeeeet, hope they redesign it ,hate paddle switches too
Awesome mod
Smart & sharp idea. I’d do the same thing. Gotta have that variable speed. By ya x lock would make it a prefect grinder
BRILLIANT 😎😎😎😎
That's the sign of a true craftsman, modifying tools to meet your needs 🤌
This is good information! Thanks to video! Greetings from Finland! 🎅🏻🇫🇮🔧🔩
I love your videos keep up the good work also Iam a big fan of you from Iraq
Nice! C'mon Milwaukee!
Damn, now I gotta go buy a second grinder to frankenstein with my flathead...
COOL. Maybe Milwaukee needs you in there design department. At least as a consultant.
Hey Milwaukee! 👍👍 (W/variable speed)
For an updated tool specifically tailored for metal workers, you would think the flathead version would have the variable speed for detailing...
Good mod
You make some really interesting and entertaining content all while giving tricks to a trade keep up the good work
So let me get this straight, to save myself almost $100 give or take for a whole new tool, I can just order a flat head replacement and boom..hell yeah lol.
Amazon has the 'Milwaukee 2888-20 18V Cordless 4.5"/5" Grinder w/Variable Speed (Tool Only)' which is a flat head grinder? Says it was 1st available - Date First Available December 16, 2022. Actually looks like it is less expensive than the one which is not variable speed.
The 2888-20 I see on HD's site is not a flat head.
I've had my eye on the dewalt one for years, but they're SO expensive and not variable speed.
where do you buy your Milwaukee tools ?
i would probably try a 7 inch disc in my regular grinder before buying something like the milwaukee . i have been dewalt for 25 years . they used to have a factory service store in town. just take the tool there for warranty. no shipping costs. we would heavy grind large fiberglass panels with 7 inch corded and they would repair them 2 or 3 times in the first year for free. usually the bearings in the head would go. after that we would discard since the head cost half the price of a new one. grinding steel they last forever but fiberglass just eats them up.
now i have all the 20v cordless dewalt stuff. too expensive to switch.
In my country all warranties are looked after by the place you bought it from. By law the consumer never has to pay return postage fee although I notice ebay ignores this, not sure how they get around flouting the consumer law.
Thanks Chris, this shows the GREED these big companies like Milwaukee still have on our consumers. They could have done just what Chris did but the Greed conquers that logic Milwaukee would rather have us pay more for that option then to just add it. SMH
Voiding warranty like a pro. Nice hack Jack.
Wouldn’t have it any other way
I've been using Milwaukee for over 13 years and I've never had to use the warranty on a single Milwaukee product
Being handcuffed by warranty fears sounds like a depressing way to live.
@@josheakins5137you’ve had better luck than me, I’ve only bought a 18v hammer drill, 18v drill, Fuel 18v impact driver and the angle grinder with the paddle switch and the drill failed immediately 30 seconds after it came out of the box and then the hammer drill failed after a year of moderate use. On the Torque Test channel they had an episode featuring a model of Milwaukee’s cordless, forget which now, and such a high rate of failure out of the box Milwaukee recalled them. Over here all Milwaukee cordless tools and batteries are made in China.
If it breaks you just swap it back.
Hey brother update on the grinder mod is it still holding up
I always get schooled from you so thanks
That was am Informative 📹! Why is their only 2 holes, for the handle on a cordless angle grinder? There's 3 holes on a corded.🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♀️🤷🏿
wouldn't a 6" reach in there?
Ya
In my neck of the woods we call that a post production, non factory certified modification.
wow that flap disc is $18 for 1. that is definitely only for specialty work at that price.
Yea, too much.
Get a dynafile aka a bandfile.
I’ve got a few, this is faster
It's called a straight die grinder for tight spots don't use a grinder.
What would you use with the die grinder? I’m guessing a carbide burr would be wrong.
Great hack. Too bad Milwaukee is asleep at the wheel. Doesn't seem to be a reason to buy a Non flat headed grinder, why not move the whole line over?
They make all these cool stuff with more power than you could ask for and yet all their tools are ergonomically disasters. When I have to work with one of them I alwys be like: Ohh again?
(And lets not talk about the undersized bearings in these grinders)
very very
lol obviously they did it that way for the money. milwaukee will let it make its rounds with the consumer then BAM! they make another upgraded flathead grinder with variable speed to be sold to the consumer.
You just cost me $359.63 on eBay for the pair. 😂
Just add variable speed to the new grinder. Then you have two working grinders. Only cost about $5.00.
How would you do that?
Use a file you lazy .......... 😂
The reason they never did that mod is because they would have had to charge an extra $30 to do so.
I wasn't aware of this design, useful!!
Metabo knock off 😂😂😂😂😂
They ripped off the Snap-On angle grinder.
Welder you ain't
Why do you think I have such nice grinders?
id die grind the internal welds smooth, then only need to touch the whole area with the buff and take off less martial
@milwaukee
Or you could just pick up a file and save yourself all this bs?
