Tony Hawk is the most iconic skateboarder on the planet. June 27th is his wedding anniversary…and also the anniversary of the greatest moment in skateboarding history, the first ever 900. Tony Hawk’s 900 at the X Games in San Francisco, CA was LIVE on national television. For the first time, millions of viewers saw what really goes into skateboarding…passion, determination, camaraderie and perseverance. Shortly after that, Tony Hawk Pro Skater (THPS) was released and a whole new generation of skateboarders were born. It truly was, “the perfect storm.” But there’s more to the story than just that one fateful night in SF. Our host, Torey Pudwill takes us back, while influential skate figures and also such as; Rodney Mullen, Jamie Thomas, Bob Burnquist, Colin McKay, Andy Macdonald and Bucky Lasek break down the moment and the impact on skateboarding. #thps #tonyhawkproskater Be sure to check out the X Games coming soon, it will be the 25 year anniversary of Tony's first 900!

Tony just landed a 540 at 55 years old. Jordan isn’t still in the nba trying to guard Jamal Murray, Gretzky isn’t still in the NHL playing the best hockey players. But our GOAT Tony fucking Hawk still competing in the X Games. He’s the goat of all goats
Bad comparison, if Wayne Gretzky played in a beer league game it’s essentially the same thing, Tony isn’t going up against pros
I was there in sf for the 900. Same day Travis Pastrana jumped his dirt bike into the bay. The riding session with the best of the best in all sports around sf after every night was most memorable part of it all
Man.. I'm a 90s skater..
But Tony hawks pro skater got me into skateboarding and punk rock..
Skate videos..
Punk bands..
Z-boys and dogtown..
A whole lifestyle..
Who knew that blue cartridge N-64 game would have such a huge effect on my life lol.
Who knew that I would end up coming to know Jesus..
Jesus loves outcasts Fs.
Geoff Rowley, rodney and all them.. legends forever for sure...
I hope in heaven i can skate with the raddest skaters and we can all be kids again.
🙌
I saw the Hawk do a 900 at Boom Boom Huck Jam. My dad made it his mission to take us to that shit. I still remember him and Andy skating doubles.
Awesome
Thank you!
I started skating when the first THPS was released for N64. I was in highschool, i was bullied everyday, i hated my life. I started skating then i found out there were other skaters in class and my life turned around. Now i had a crew, i was no longer bullied and i finally felt like a normal human being. Ive been skating since then, Tony is a huge inspiration in my life, probably i wouldnt be alive if it was not for him. Im almost 40 yo and skateboarding is still the most important thing in my life, i dont care if i fall and get hurt, i love skateboarding and i own my life to this piece of wood.
🙌
Rodney Mullen’s voice is so calming in interviews
It’s so true
Need him to record some bedtime stories
Someone posted on another video that Rodney could talk about the beautiful way his paint dried and it would be inspirational
Agreed!
For real he talks so poetic, would love some audio books with his voice
"I'm too scared to go up a mega ramp fakie." So am I Tony so am I.
Haha
Thanks!
Tony Hawk and The 900 are the reason I started skateboarding
Without that moment I might not have stared skateboarding or would be skateboarding today
Because of that moment I started my own skateboard company
I owe 24 wonderful years in counting of my life to that moment and Tony Hawk
🙌
🙌
What's your company?
Who can't watching Tony's 900 remember it so well watching the x games they went over time just for that trick. Put it in the history books
Now we need an 1 hour doc like this for all tricks rodney had invented 😍
On it
@@storied_skateboarding 😍🥳😍🥳
Might need more than an hour
@@chaseingabor I was trying not to be greedy. But I gladly welcome more then an hour 🤩
There's an old but good documentary about Rodney called "From the ground up" from On Video Skateboarding.
This has to be one of the most definitive videos ever produced on the 900. What an unbelievable video to launch a channel with.
That means a ton, thank you!
Thank you!
You know what’s crazy is it took Tony so many times to land it once and then I saw this kid on IG who can do back to back 900s so smoothly it’s insane🤯🤯
Set the stage
Humans are like that. Once one of us learns and does anything it’s like you can’t stop all the others from it. For good and bad. Look at nukes.
Yo that rotating camera at the end that is seamlessly blending between the different shots is incredible.
Thank you!!!
🙌
Even if we saw it on TV, My Brother and I had the honor and privilege to see this live. We went crazy. Tony Hawk is still to this day a role model.
🙌
🙌
takes me right back to this night. the tries were getting late and i had to commute from ct to nyc for work in the morning, so i popped in a vcr tape ( youngins look it up lol), so the next morning i start watching the tape and as he finally landed the 9, the city bus that i take to the train station drove right by my house....late to work, but worth the memory..👏🏿
Thank you!
So this is Chase's new venture? Hell yes. This is what the people want! Thank you Chase!
Thank you!
Much love!
@@chaseingaborlove this Chase, stoked for your new venture!
@@Jimberley Thank you!
That 360 pan at the end tho 🤯
:)
Thank you!
I've heard this story so Many times, but not like this, this is special, I started skating because of THPS, and one of my life highlights was seeing Tony Hawk skate in 2006 in Birmingham, England.
That means a lot!
🙌
Even as a 51 year old ex-BMX Freestyler who sucked on a skateboard, I still get goosebumps every single time I watch anything about Tony's 900. Knowing how difficult skating is to learn, I have the utmost respect for all skaters. This video is awesome. Thanks for sharing 😊
Sounds like me (10 years younger than you though) through the 90's. Still carry all the scars and legendary glory in my small home town... my kids had no idea who I was back then and earlier this year I was in my auto shop and a friend brought over a BMX bike, the kids were blown away by some flatland stuff I could still do.
Tony's significance to skateboarding and extreme sports is that of the god like level (yet so humble) that Matt Hoffman had back in the day. Being towed by a dirtbike to set extreme air records, and the pictures in BMX Plus! back in the day. It fueled my addiction to getting better and going bigger until I had taken so many slams that I was missing organs, was disfigured, and my head injuries started the onset of cognitive decline. Retirement was forced, not chosen, but I lived more in those years riding freestyle BMX than 10 people in their entire lives put together.
🙌
I'll never get tired of hearing about how amazing Tony Hawk is . . . Bring back Vert Doubles
Thank you man!
Agreed!
bruh i totally forgot about vert doubles and how insane it was!
Those transitions at the end were top notch
😎🤝
THANK YOU CHASE AND I JUST WANNA SAY I SUPPORT YOU 💯 PERCENT ON YOUR NEW CHAPTER AND WISH YOU NOTHING BUT SUCCESS 🙏💚
Thank you!!!
Thank you dude!
fantastic video, thank you and stay rad!!!!
Thank you!
Thanks!
I'm not even a skater and I randomly turned on the TV during the X Games right before Tony started attempting the 900. I was intrigued and kept watching until he landed it. It was a totally unforgettable experience and I'm glad I watched it. Now, almost 25 years later, I fully recognize the importance and the magnitude of what I saw.
Man I remember watching this on TV What an Epic night! This is such a beautiful sport! NOTHING else like it!
The Pan at the end was so dope!
🙌
Great job Chase!!!
Thank you!
Thank you!
Each GOAT has their signature moment, MJ had the shot, Ali had the rope a dope, Tony had the 900.
Truly Legendary.
🙌
i grew up street skateboarding but now that the Olympics are a thing for skaters vert needs to come back so many gnarly vert skaters man id watch it every time its on
Thank you!
Incredible video! Tony Hawk is such a legend.. I remember skipping school cuz my best friend found his Christmas present, which was a PlayStation with Tony Hawks Pro Skater.. We’d take a razer blade and carefully open them both up, hook it up, get higher than the electric bill and play the shit out of it for hours, had the game beat before Christmas lol
Thank you!!!
Thank you!
seeing this happen live was probably the most important thing to ever happen to me
🙌
This is one moment in sports that I actually saw it happen live and will never forget
🙌
Ordered one! Now I have this and the the board with Tony’s blood in it hung up at my skateshop Five Oh!

I love skate stories ! There are full of them ❤
!!!
Thank you!
Kudos to Tony but a small bit of gratitude needs to be given to the person at espn production that allowed the best trick contest to exceed allotted live broadcasting
I started skateboarding because of the 900 and THPS Games. Later became a skateboardfilmmaker myself that lead to a filmmaker career doing commercials and documentary VOD shows, now at features. The 900 was a huge change for Tony Hawks life but I am sure it had a major impact on so many lifes - when I just look at myself. Imagine just a gnarly trick - made by a guy in a pipe couple years ago - what impact does it have? And well done, such an emotional documentary.
Awesome man, thank you
Thank you!
This video was amazing. Tony Hawk is the reason I started skateboarding when I was a kid
Thank you!
🙌
My family had actually been to events at that X Games the day before that happened (at least I think it was the day before, but I'm going off of memories from when I was 7). I was very into skateboarding at the time--though I only had some crazy plastic 60s board and a Toys-R-Us special. Going to watch the X Games was like a dream to me. Then, I remember watching him attempt the 900 on TV the next day. I was glued to the TV, watching him get closer and closer to landing it. Then he did, and seeing it gave me full body chills. I don't think I stopped thinking about that moment for months after it happened. Then of course, when THPS came out on Playstation, I got it and played it for hundreds and hundreds of hours, landing many 900s of my own.
Thank you, Tony, for leaving such an impact on skateboarding.
What's funny, is that he's just going to have to go through this whole rigmarole next year as well because 2024 is going to be the 25th anniversary of the 900.
Hopefully!
We needed this! thank u Gabor brothers!
woohoo!
Much love!!
Rodney Mullen is such a treasure. I mean obviously a legend but the zen vibes he gives off. Listening to him talk just makes me feel like things might be ok.
Haha we agree ❤️
It feels like yesterday
Sure does
Thank you!
Congrat Chase on the new project, dope edit !!
Thank you!
Thank you!
So fucking epic! I seen it live. Thank you Tony❤
Thank you!
🙌
Really was a perfect storm. Hitting the 900 in the x games on national tv created so much attention that drove kids to upcoming THPS which in turn made guys like Muska, Reynolds, Thomas household names to the kids and best of all made an enormous amount of kids pick up a board. Skateboarding today is still eating from the attention that moment brought to skating. Tony is such a good dude theres not a better dude that could be the face and represent skating to the general public
🙌
A great short made by people that love skateboarding. Thanks Chase #skaterssupportingskaters
Thank you!
Thank you!
If Tony didn’t land the 900 that night we’d all be speaking Australian and playing Tas Pappas Pro Skater. God bless the Birdman!! 🦅 🦅 🇺🇸
Excellent debut video guys!!!
Thank you!
Thank you!
This is absolutely one of those "where we're you?" Moments in sports history!
100%
I watched it LIVE on TV back 1999. It was glorious . Thank you X Games for extending the broadcast.
Amazing!
Awesome 👏🏼
Thank you!
Thanks!
As a young-mid teen when this happened, getting to grow up in this era, I didn't play sports, give me a skateboard or bike, this is still one of the most influential and monumental moments of my life, a was a die hard extreme sports fan the tony hawk game was even my favorite game, so glad I got to witness this
🙌🤝
X games was so new it was free to get in at San Francisco. I was 13. We caught the caltrain from San Jo to the city . Tony had the whole event on their feet while he was trying that 900. Even these grown ass me, sitting in front of us on the top of the bleachers sipping Henny from Hunters points who had no idea who or what Tony was trying. Even those dude were standing up screaming from excitement 🤣 Core memory for me forsure! One of the best things I've ever witnessed live in sports! Oh , and we met WEE MAN too🤙
Awesome!
great video, Tony has been one of the most influential figures in my life since a child
Thank you!
Thank you!
Tony is the man. Awesome video! Thanks, looking forward to more!
Thank you!!
Thanks!
Im 35 and i remember it live. I dont skate but i watch alot of skate content.
Awesome video! I've been a fan of Tony since the 80s and was there at X-Games '99 to witness history in the making. I still get goosebumps watching that footage!
Awesome
Thank you!
Isn't Tony Hawk one of the coolest guys ever? I love him, what an inspiration!
He truly is
🙌
Really looking forward to seeing the rest of the plans for this channel. So many great stories to tell in skateboarding from so many different eras

🙌
Awesome documentary! I love the music you have in it!
Thank you!!!
Thank you!
Amazing , cant wait to see more 💥
Thank you!!!
There was an old thrasher ad of a 13 - 14 y/o Danny Way that actually landed the 900 first. However because it wasn't in a contest, he never got any additional credit.
Tony is a legend, no question. However, Danny truly is the ground breaking force that brought skateboarding to it current benchmark.. I.e megaramp!!
🤝
Excellent first video! I'm so stoked to see where this project goes. Good luck on the new venture man!
Thank you!!!
Thank you!
Great work Chase!
Thank you!!
Thanks!!
Amazing era, I'm glad I got to experience it as it happened, and still get chills hearing stories about it to this day!
🙌
I remember watching him throw it down. It was absolutely incredible!
This is incredible. I was a kid watching that x-games best trick when it aired and every time I’ve watched the clips of the build up of tries he takes and how much closer he gets every time until he lands it, it gets me so hyped. Brings me back to that moment in time reliably. So rad to see it being celebrated in such an amazing way
Thanks!
!!!
Stoked on this new channel Chase! I do wish there was more controversy in this though, I hoped everyone would talk about Tas Pappas’s side of the story. Also a mention of Tom’s 1080 and Mitchie’s 1260 would’ve been cool. Big advantage to rotate that much on mega, but they were both still firsts that should’ve made a bigger splash. Good work tho 💪
Thank you!
Thank you!
This was amazing guys. Great job !!! 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you dude!!
Thank you!
its iconic that Torey Pudwill is hosting this in an armchair by a fire place! this video is amazing, tony hawk is goated! i really hope you do one of these on rodney mullen. he is arguably the most important person in skateboarding history in terms of his contributions to the sport. I am sure you don't do requests haha but the world needs more rodney mullen in it.
Thank you!! 🙌
🙌
we need more rodney, great video!
Stay tuned : )
Thank you!
Thank you Tony for everything - So much impact so many years later

Damn that Pano shot at the end is awesome! That was amazing editing. I can’t wait to see what’s next. I can imagine r this takes awhile to make again awesome work.
🙌
I miss when vert skating was this mainstream and popular; amazing. Great work Chase 🔥
Thank you!! 🙌
Thank you!
Was not expecting to see Rodney Mullen (or many of the other pros)! What a treat!
This was so great; hopefully there is more of this type of content coming from this channel!
🙌🙌🙌
🙌
It would have been cool to touch on the Tas Papas thing! Be it to confirm or to deny the "accusations", but just to have Tony's point of view on what Tas is refering to in his documentary.
Production value is so good. Nothing compares to the 900, but this needs to be a series. Next obvious is Pastrana Double Back.
Subbing to all Chase content now. 😬
🙌
Sick bro!!! Thank you for blessing skateboarding with your talent for telling stories!!!
Thank you!
Thank you!
That 900 really changed the world. I started skateboarding in the early 90s, not even knowing that skateboarding was 'dead.' Other kids would always make fun or just look at me weird, but after the 900 and then THPS, those same kids were asking me how to skate or at least had some understanding and respect of what it took to skateboard.
🙌🙌
🙌
This is so cool! can't wait to see what this channel does! literally iconic
Definitely
🙌
Tony is an absolute hero of mine, absolutely responsible for getting me (and hundreds of thousands of other people my age) into skateboarding through his video games. But even before personally being skating I was a fan of it, used to watch various competitions on the EX channel here in the UK via satellite TV, which is where I first saw who became my favourite skater of all time, Steve Caballero.
I was lucky enough to see the first 900 live on the X Games (again thanks to having satellite TV) which was such a strange occasion in my household due to my general aversion to sports otherwise and yet there i was watching it live and going ballistic over the results, to the point where I actually woke up my sleeping Father (who at the time worked nights and was generally speaking the person who would be watching live sports events, albeit generally taped, when we were still asleep). When he came down to tell me off he was so perplexed by it being through my watching a live sports thing that while he still told me off, he was a lot calmer about it than he planned to be and then he got a bit caught up in my excitement and waited with me to watch a replay of the trick while I told him just how significant it was.
Now me and my Dad have a little bit of a strained relationship with one another because of just how different from one another we are (he is very much a "Jack the Lad" type of guy, likes his sports, brimming with confidence etc, as where I am a lot more introverted and bookish), so the first 900 is a special memory for me not only because of just how awesome it was to witness, but because it ended up being a bonding moment between myself and my Father.
Great video dude, brought back a lot of happy memories for me. Im 100% subscribing to the channel and am looking forward to seeing what you put out next.
I wish you all the best!
This is an amazing story 🙌 thank you
The man who invented kickflip is sending praises to the man who did 900. skateboarding is crazy
🙌
Fuck yeah chase. If you continue this concept the channels gonna blow up. It reminds me of the channel Little Big Stories but about skateboarding. You're talented enough to take it far.
Thank you a million!
Thank you!
This is outstanding, Chase. Can't wait to see your future films.
Thanks so much!
Thank you!
The crazy thing about this is that Tony COMPETED in a cometition where the first 1080 was landed in competition not that long ago. But it still didn't get the same recognition as his 900.
Love this Chase! Your going to do many great things in the new chapter!
Cheers from Tennessee 🍻

So epic
@@storied_skateboarding since it's not mentioned in the doc, I'll share the announcers kept pointing out how unexpected & crazy it was that ALL of the other competitors had not only dropped out of competition & yielded their time to give Tony as many tries as he needed, but were also up there rallying & cheering him on between every attempt... Great video btw!
i dont know what xgames it was but i can proudly say i am a skateboarder thanks to seeing tony hawk at the xgames

Saw this on TV when it happened, my brother and I were freaking out, running around the house crazy excited, it was completely electric.
