Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

She’s so inspiring. And so clear. What they want. Why they want it. And when the character often lays it out for the audience. Love it.
I've learned a lot about film making from this channel and it is from the quality of the interviews that you do. Just as you talk about in writing, you can tell when someone is willing to put themselves out there and honestly express themselves. Thanks
I would love to read the script should talked about that made her cry. Love how you talked about rosy, manufactured PR scripts.
She's seems like a very pleasant to learn from. Always enjoy her vids.
Thank you so insightful 👏🏼
Omgggg what happened to the script that made her sob???
100% beautiful, well said ****
Tbh I'm kinda afraid to be completely honest in my story with what I think about certain topics, I keep thinking about how "tamed" my story should be for my potential audience (older teens) even tho other stories in similar genres are way more wild than mine... I just don't want to be personally judged only bc my characters will say or do snth controversial - but this is just what I'm interested in the most, so I also keep telling myself that it's MY story, and I don't want to regret being dishonest in future. It will stay around after me, so I really want it to be smth that reflects my real thoughts and opinions. Even if some people won't like it.
What do you like about this video?
Details on her experiences, resources, & transparency for those looking for an inside conversation about the truth in WRITING ✍️🏽! AWESOMENESS
I have one short script that made me cry as I was writing it 😂
@Dean I’ve done that.
@Dean There was a person who said they cried after reading one of my short stories, it was such an honor for me :')
Yes --- as the saying goes "No tears in the writer; no tears in the reader".
WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a good story & this story never heard or imagine anybody I’m 100% confident abt it.
But idk whom I consulte or any platform.
🤷🏻♂️
But is the goal to make people cry? If that is, why are there only two movies of the top 10 grossing films of all time that get people to cry more than once in the film? Why do no movie posters and previews promote those as a selling point?
Because crying in a movie is something the audience Needs, but isn't what they consciously Want.
@Dean It’s simply advice. Plenty of art forms use formulas (architecture, textiles, sculpture) or general practices (shading, chiaroscuro, white space) to improve the art itself and better capture the artist’s vision. No one has the monopoly on what exactly “art” is. If you disagree with the formula, that’s fine. That doesn’t mean someone else won’t find it helpful.
Surprise and emotion are the granite-like, foundation pillars of all entertainment. From Movies, TV shows and the music industry all the way through to things that we don’t classically think of as “ShowBiz”, like sports, the fashion industry and even news. When entertainment scores a 10/10 for surprise and a 10/10 for emotion, it hits the jackpot and succeeds almost organically (this is the point when content “goes viral”). The goal of making a reader cry with a screenplay is a great one because it’s an involuntary response to something that hits a 10/10 emotion button, but being moved to tears isn’t the only emotion that humans love to feel, and just as there’s a wide range of emotions that we want our readers / listeners / viewers to feel, there is a range of involuntary physical responses that happen when creators hit the 10/10 jackpot. What happens to us physically when we feel emotions like rage, fear, vindication, relief, romantic love or compassion? I recognise that surprise is an emotion too, but it’s such a dominant one in all entertainment that it’s always worth focusing on creating that by itself.
I know it’s simplistic, but try testing it yourself when you’re assessing your own creations or think of your own top five selections of entertainment and then grade them out of 10 for surprise and emotion… it’s a very revealing exercise.
I started doing this on my CZcams channel recently with Britain’s Got Talent contestants and it was really interesting to compare results because you can come really close to predicting winners this way, but more importantly, for entertainers who are trying to improve their audience impact, it’s a really helpful metric to use on your own content creation. I’m just scratching the surface here, but screenplays are no exception.
@Dean "If someone has to tell you how to write, you weren't born to be a writer" is a ridiculous statement.
Look up fixed vs. growth mindsets, and consider whether anyone could ever be qualified to make the sweeping absolute statements your comments are full of.
@@emilymartin5418I'm speechless that anyone would say that.
My guess for us to come together and take advantage of the things it manuverd us to do this shit like a Big play ground now what you think
I'm grateful to hear Kelly Edwards say, "age is not a factor" 🥹
