- Ever since Hasbro revealed the photo real face printing at last year's San Diego Comic Con I've been chomping at the bit to get my grubby hands on the Star Wars Black Series Island Journey Rey. Not only does it give us our first look at the process but we also get our first Resistance clothed Rey from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. I'm happy all around!

This face has the absolute best likeness in my opinion. None of them compare. Not even sh figuarts
yeap...for a non-hot toys figure, the face is quite stunning
I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but I think Black Series face sculpt looks better than Figuarts. Congrats Hasbro, having fabric cloth AND decent faces for this price tag is really gonna put them ahead of the game. Your move imports!. :D

The various versions of Rey are warming pegs in all my local shops so I won't rush to pick this up, don't think I'll struggle to find one for months to come. I think I prefer the Jedi training version though.

9:10 one of my favorite things to do when I have a figure of another character in the same scale, just analyzing details from major to mundane to stimulate my complusive habits.
Only getting one Rey - chose this as under the hood she rocks it IMO.
face printing improves this figure so much more, but the rest of the figure honestly feels pretty cheap.
The quality is worse than some 3.75 figures.
The face is a definite improvement.
I really hope for the 40th anniversary of ESB they do what they did with the 40th ANH stuff. Except I want better distribution

@Alakazam03 oh wow I don’t remember leaving this comment! Since then I actually have travelled to the ends of the Earth, but not in search of said figure. I just had Amazon deliver the 40th anniversary figure to me last year haha

great review, very tempting to buy this one to support this face printing tech but i will wait for rey's final design in ep 9 and im amazed that it even looks better than the s.h one.

Holding out for SH Figuarts or even MAFEX. Looks nice though for those into Black Series, heads above Hasbro's previous Rey offerings. Thank you for video review!

That's some great tooling by the Hasbro Design team, if that's how it was modeled from start. It's the new Kung Fu grip from G.I. Joe. Great for display. Awesome review, brother. Keep up the solid work!

that can you sprayed on the figure is called Top Coat. it's used for model kits. so try it out on some of the kits you have that you don't want to be shiny. also Mr Hobby and Tamiya make their own brands of top coat as well and they might work better than Testors. also they come in multiple types. gloss, flat, matte. they're great for preserving any of the detail work you've done on kits like panel lining or painting.

As one who has a limited budget for buying action figures, this could not be more perfect for me. It's hardly a perfect figure, granted. But it looks like Rey. The face is amazing, and I also feel like it has more realistic proportions. When Figuarts does Resistance Rey, it'll be better. But as one who simply wants a figure with a great likeness on my desk, this couldn't be better.
Oh definitely, and it's awesome that Hasbro stepped up and made this improvement while still keeping the price point. They could have continued chugging along with the Joe eyes and such.
Jedi my apologies.. might have to get at least one Rey and this might be it to put it in display with Obi Wan, Jedi Luke and the rest of them..just bought the Captain Rex and Dj which by the way has got one of the best human face sculpt.

Yeah boy! I'm down with the new face printing tech. Rey looks awesome and a shot of dull coat is a real easy fix. Sad that the Mafex is just that bit too big, or a mafex body/HBS head could be an amazing combo.
I'm going to get this Rey and leave the Figuarts version - can't believe I've said that, but this one works for me!
It depends on any extras the SHF may come with, but yeah, this really makes me think twice about wanting an import of this costume.

Should I get the Rey training on crait exclusive, or the regular Rey Jedi training?
Island Journey is the one to get, but between those two I'd probably get the Crait exclusive.

I really hope they do a Jedi Luke with face printing tech soon.
I hope that's why they've held off on a Force Projection Luke, get one out with the print on it.
Finally a Black Series Rey figure I actually want. To me the best Rey figure under $100 is SH Figuarts’ Rey from The Last Jedi.
If they gave her a little smirk it would give her a bit more personality, but I guess that might not suit her character. I’m looking forward to receiving mine regardless.
Yeah, just a little emotion and it would have put it over the top. The tech is there, just need to tweak the sculpt/look a bit.

Weirdly my Rey’s face wasn’t too shiny at all, however my Rex’s face is so shiny I can nearly see my reflection! Thanks for the Dullcote tip
Oooo, interesting. So maybe it's a case by case basis using the face tech? Because my Rex didn't really have a shine. But Rey. Yeah, Rey needed some dulling down. Hmm.

I'm just not excited about collecting Star Wars figures anymore. There's TONS of reason why...but it's a real shame, because for about 1 year there it was a SUPER exciting thing for me and was an amazing outlet to get my inner child out haha. I absouletely could NOT get enough Star Wars into my life and shopping for the toys was just the best!

Wetting the poncho down and it helps 100x. Almost want to display here with the poncho but it does hide her behind it. For $20 this face print tech is a steal compared to import prices.
Oh hell yeah, this is a lot of detail packed in for the price. I need to play with the poncho more. Maybe.

I'm really impressed with the face, especially after that dullcote, but the proportions are throwing me way off. Something about the legs or torso is making her look stretched out. The hip joints start too far down and need to be further up in the skirt. Also, the arms stilll look too thin without those gauntlets.

Im not to invested in this figure but I'll probably end up trying to buy this loose or on disconut sometime to try and kitbash this and TFA rey to make my TFA rey figure better
The Jakku costume? I can see that. The hairstyles match there too.
Yep was thinking of swapping the head and the arms (maybe give the bandages a quick repaint to look more like the Jakku costume)

In terms of the face printing tech, is it better? Well yes it is, but it not like wow look how much better it is but I guess I'll take an improvement over no improvement. Love you Robo. Ps I'm not gay. Actually after seeing your great review the face printing tech looks hella cool.
It definitely looks better, but to me for some reason the hasbro marvel legends face prints seem to look better.
Well, the Legends had a year or so headstart. Their firsts weren't as great as current ones. I have a feeling as the Black Series factory gets more used to this it'll get even better. Two completely separate, autonomous factories on the two lines.

Can you use her head on the jakku rey?
Probably with some modification but the skin tones would be insanely different.

The packaging has changed. It's a bit thinner than previous.
Knight_of _Ren 789 and they got rid of the top window on the box, and the front window is smaller.

When she was handing luke the Saber, it was on her back. I bought the target deluxe Luke and studied the photo, recreating the scene. Makes it accurate.

this figure in my sincerest opinion great detailed improved face sculpt but the actual actress doesn't have so much curve on her makes this the least curvy of any female action figures.. 😁 still the head articulation leaves a little bit more to be desired for such a Jadi character who is active in movement.. hit and miss
Between the sculpt and printing, this might be the best 1/12 Rey yet, Hasbro or otherwise. Your brightness may be a little high, making the figure look a tad washed out and undersaturated, otherwise enjoyable and informative as always.
Yeah, with the new background and the shine, my camera setting needed to be tweaked, which I suck at. Once I find that happy medium I stick with it, change is bad, haha.

As far as the face goes...the paint job is awesome. Amazingly well done.
But it's not Rey! It's close...but different and I don't like it. I feel like some of the older models are better representations of Rey.
Ok why do they give this figure a cloth robe, but they pass on all the Jedi?

SH Figuarts is still better but Hasbro kicked it up a notch. I just can’t stand how shiny the black series figures are.
That's why I keep that can of Dullcote by the desk, helps tremendously.

Hey its not just me these figure are worth next to nothing from the Last Jedi nobody wants them at all and the film just came out last year it is funny as hell !! but the classic figure are high as hell tho !! maybe i should try something different because i want the classic figure !!!!
