that was brilliant
"You may know about car prices but I know about wheat prices."
Can't believe Jeremy let that one slide, proper did him there.
Wheat futures is my guess
Paul is the seventh or eight generation of his family to work at this mill - so he probably does know a bit about wheat prices lol
Jeremy probably wrote the line
Wheat is largely market priced. One doesn't simply haggle with the market. The market says, and you sell.
@@alexglick6628 ^this guy understands narrative production
Jeremy showing his amazing negotiation skills there, taking the first offer.
"Man city at their very list". Well said mr Clackson
Well, if the offer is on or above your expectations then whats the point? Besides, Paul looks far too "experienced" to be bothered with that little dance any more! 🤣🤣
@@simphiwemadonsela6960 least
@@fxcg thank you for the correction teacher i appreciate it a lot
It's basically sold on market rates determined by futures. There really isn't any room for anyone to haggle.
From now on, I’m gonna use that method whenever I’m buying something.
If the other person wants to haggle I will say “I’ve sorted it”. Lol
you mean next time you're selling something..?
@@arturseversons3444 no, selling. the guy buying was Paul.... the miller (buyer). near the end of the video Paul says "I've sorted it out" and offers Jeremy 185 pounds. The joke is Jeremy wanted to haggle it to a higher price (200 pounds) but instead Paul goes "no I've sorted it out" which negates all haggling and the funny nit is Jeremy doesn't even contest it.
xD literally haha just be like "No no, I've sorted it" seems like it would legit work
@@WunnSEN grain buyers are like that it’s take it or leave it
this strategy works 100% 1/2 the time
“I shall ask for £200” *accepts £185 instantly*
Considering spot was 170 was not bad.
Millers know their stuff.
"Don't like it take it to another mill." That will give you a similar price, maybe a pound better at best and when you factor in the transport costs you will just lose money on diesel.
I mean. Based on the prices he was get spotted at. 185 sounds about the best he was gonna be able to get. Means he actually produced quality milling wheat
You always ask more than you can accept, so you can have a reasonable margin of allowance. 185 was the original target.
This is by far the best spin off show from Top Gear.
I love James May, and Richard Hammond, and their series of shows outside of TG, however, Jeremy Clarkson’s farm is probably one of the best pieces of entertainment to come out of the woodwork in a long while.
They are not part of Top Gear since 2015, you're talking about The Grand Tour ;)
Absolutely
That is so true !
Clarkson's Farm not only provides entertainment, but is genuine visual art. Some of the aerial shots were simply amazing. A masterpiece.
I know right?! It would be great to bring the others on the show just to spice up the show every now and again as well. Even if it's just to roast Jeremy haha.
"We've got to haggle." "No we don't." Love it.
For his FIRST year farming Jeremy did a really good job

“That’s fantastic news” 😂
I really hope they do season 2 and for some reason I want to see James May drive a tractor. He would be perfect for the job. Not Hammond though he would probably flip a combine.
There is gonna be a season 2
yeah tractor race
Most of season 2 has already been filmed, we just have to wait for it to be released
the 3 of them would be perfect on a farm, may cause well hes slow and technical, and hammond cause he grew up doing it
Don’t forget we’ve already seen James drive a tractor, in his painfully slow anally retentive way.
Didn’t go well, but probably that was just for comedic effect.
I suspect he would be really good at it, but just really slow.
Loved how he read off the percentage like was a star in a reasonably priced car lap time
Charlie is the embodiment of a true professional.
It's like Clarkson is blessed. No matter what he touches, no matter what he does wrong.... Everything works out in the end for him.
Probably a team of experts are behind the production monitor it's growth, kek.
Who knew I would enjoy watching people do manual labour but I hate doing it myself.
@@choojooo8531 Apparently according to people surrounding the place, Clarkson and Kaleb are the only ones doing the work
@@reptilianshapeshifter1357 Apparently according to people surrounding the place, Clarkson and Kaleb are the only ones doing the work
Even though they joke that Jeremy made less than 200 pounds profit, if you consider that takes into consideration a brand new (and huge) tractor and its addons he bought, that’s an amazing achievement.
Wel the price of the tractor is actually calculated over its operating life, so if it will last 20 years, they only put 1/20th of the full price on the books.
Yeah he did really well, if he was in it properly and did several season he could make a lot more after covering startup costs, provided no weather disasters etc
@@ArtyMars provided the wheat prices stay high :D
@@Okka67 depends on how you account for it, you can take the hit in one year if you want to

noo in the pause world
It's got no shit in it.
Up the Jezza. I hope he doesn't get too disheartened by Geopolitics or the lack of support for the agricultural industry. He made a minimal profit of the timing the show was made but I hope he sticks at it. He will make more and more now he has the equipment at hand as well as more know-how for the job. Keep going mate!
After the series was released and still to this day, the series has got very positive reviews from farmers and their community for showing their side to the world
@@ajax8384 I'm glad. Come to think of it, there never has been a celebrity farmer the unwashed masses could ever relate to. Glad Clarkson is doing this, but a shame it's what's been needed to get the industry the exposure.
He was and he would have made a fair bit of money if it weren't for the sheep and a lack of storage
That Lambo tractor will look great blocking a brit motorway or in the Mall etc to tell the piss poor corrupt NWO subservient government that we are NOT in the eu NOR are we globalists.
"We must haggle now!"
"No"
"...Ok fine."
Nice too know Jeremy's farm produces top quality products. Well done sir.
Best line ever... haggling.. no, no I've sorted that 🤣🤣. This is what happens when you work with yourself, your internal dialogue becomes it's own conversation, who needs other people 🤣
$185/ton 😳. No wonder farmers have to be so heavily subsidized.
Can’t charge $10 for a loaf of bread
@@warrenstemphly5756 come to Australia. You can charge more than $10 if it's sour dough.
They're subsidised to protect consumers, not to benefit farmers lol.
@@hek8640 they're subsidized to protect bad farming methods, and socialism, i.e. govt corruption. If farmers had to grow a variety of crops to survive, the bees wouldn't be dying off. Too big to fail is too big exist in every industry. Let people pay $20 for a loaf, let them riot.
@@bigbrotheriswatching2680 the way bad farming practices are prevented is through regulation not through subsidisation which solely aims to reduce unit production costs for farmers.
I'm really glad that it worked out for Jeremy.
"I'm going to go and bathe in it." - And with that, the sales of bread in Britain dropped 35% for the next 9 months.
We need a Second Season!
Good god! I worked for an agricultural merchant 35 years ago. Back then, £185/tonne would have been a poor price even for feed wheat, let alone milling wheat!
The tyranny of corporate bodies driving down prices for their own profit and preventing one of the most important strata of producers from making a decent living.
I would love to see the grand tour do a 24 hrs of lemons or a lemons rally. I think that would be incredibly entertaining and the guys would probably have a blast with it.
Spot on. I watched one at NOLA Motorsports in New Orleans. Ton of fun for everyone.
I still love how much they got into the 24hr Britcar race in 2007. Would be a great episode or two. Maybe they could bring back a beach buggy or The bone Land Rover
One of the greatest episodes of top gear, if not the greatest episode of top gear is when Jeremy cries while they race in a British touring car.
I don't think anyone would watch a 24 hour video on lemons. I think you mean Le Mans.
@@PM-qi4mh Nope. "24 Hours of Lemons". Fun races to watch, probably more fun to participate in. And it doesn't cost $100 Million (insert favorite currency here) either.
Jeremy and Boris have something in common! They’re both expert hagglers!
When will we get season 2? Clarksons farm is the best series ever with Jeremy in it, bequase he is out of his stereotypical elements, cars, and hes learning stuff and feels good about it. That is good tv! The Grand tour is more of the same, although fun its abit repetetive. Keep this series for years cause Im starting to appreciate Jeremy in a whole new way and i love to see him feel good about his achievments and accomplishments.
To be honest, £185 sounds cheap for a tonne of something that takes so much time and effort to produce
That's the reality of unfinished products :/
@@pencestreams9103 Doesnt matter that its unfinished, the price should reflect the difficulty to produce it. But the prices are lowered by countries that can produce wheat or whatever so cheaply, that local farmers can turn their fields into golf clubs because there is nothing better to do.
it is cheap. the supermarkets run off with most of the profit.
Wheat has never been more entertaining. Well done editors.
For first production of wheat that's pretty impressive, but maintaining that quality all year round or improving upon it would be a difficult task.
Great show, fun and educational!
Paul, the Miller was very dry in his amusing tease of the Protein count on the Wheat...... Calling it like a celebrity Track time building the suspense One digit at a time :-)
Delivery was spot on, Jezza Caved and didnt haggle which was just as well because the man WAS dressed like a Cricket Umpire and its not wise to argue with the Ump.
Cmon Season TWO!
I wonder how many millers are TopGear / grand tour fans???
The pose and face Jeremy strikes when broaching the haggle is literally why he's successful
We all need a Charlie in our lives.

Wow 3.5 I'm pleasantly pleased!
Impatiently waiting for season 2.
'Love your hat'. Hilarious 😂
He got something right!
£185 a _tonne_? and I pay £1.50 a kilo of bread flour? I know there's losses, packaging, transportation, energy used etc but that's a heck of a markup!
Haha.. Star with a reasonably priced carB.. his announcement of the protein content... had me laughing!
Is flour graded on dry basis, like in France? Or with 15% moisture weight, like in the USA? Because 13.4% with moisture is pretty good bread flour. 13.4% dry basis is more like all purpose flour. At least in my country of Canada, ap flour is 12.5-13.5% dry basis.
Well done Mr Clarkson. I knew you can do it,,, Good luck all the way from Cape Town South Africa
Brilliant well done Jezza
Happy for Jezza.
Hope the next season is out soon!!!
Well Done !!!!!
As someone that used to bake with his flour and bake his bread I can confirm it makes a decent loaf. Good to use local flour and wheat that has less carbon footprint than other flours that are mixed and blended with flour from Ukraine or Canada (especially given the current situation in Ukraine).
“Well now we’ve got to haggle” lol

Harry's Farm did a video about grain now (04 2022) getting something like 400 pounds per ton or something like that. Jeremy is going to be loving this years harvest.
Yes, but prices for fertilizer, machines and other farm supplies are also much higher, so you need 400 pounds to make as much money as last year when everything was cheaper. And you have to remember that grain prices always drop during the harvest, so you maybe wont get 400 in three months.

I love this series... my god what a joy
Jezza talking about football sounds like me lol
Why cant everything be like this where instead of all the ripping off and undercutting theres no discussion to be had - just no this is the good quality we want, here is the representative market value for it in return. Yes I realise there was probably a bit of discussion off camera to shorten the shown sequence...but still. Would be nice.
Because wheat is such a high volume product that there’s always a clear market value for it. You can’t say the same about an old Rolex or classic car
