Hey everyone! Just going to jump ahead of the comments here to address the audio, because I know it still has a pretty severe echo. I do have a plan to fix it, but with most of the world on lockdown at the moment, I felt it was better to just get this video done so you all have something to watch while stuck at home. I promise we're not done making improvements though, and want to thank everyone who helped make Magic Arcanum what it is today. You're a great audience and I hope I can do my part to keep you entertained as we face an unprecedented global issue.

I loved this vid! The content was so awesome I didn't even notice the problems with audio. Also... You forgot to mention his stealing of the Elderspell from an eternal during War of the Spark! He can pretty much steal any planeswalkers spark now... not that he needs to tho lol
This guy has a sword cane and that's only like the fifth coolest thing about him.

To be fair if you play on mtga the voicelines definitely reveal his character, so much so that people not knowing his lore were weirded out by how "non-fitting" they are compared to the art

I love Davriel being smart enough to outsmart demons and the ability to turn people’s magic against them. That’s an amazing ability set to me and I can’t wait to see more of him.

I really like that his WAR card reflects how he tried so hard to left a bad impression of his powers so no one would call him again
Its my headcannon that the reason his planeswalker card doesn't exactly reflect his powers is he was just too lazy to use them.
That’s what Brandon Sanderson said. He was hiding his powers in war of the spark so that people would think him underwhelming and he wouldnt be included in the next big event
Also it's "loyalty" counters not health or power and davriel has very little loyalty to anyone who isn't him
Davriel is my favorite planeswalker. He just has such a funny personality and he's so smart. We definitely need more of him and Miss Highwater.
We also have nissa using her "sword of the animist"
Nissa Voice of Zendikar can make a plant hold her sword so technically she can use it. Also most other Nissas can create tokens or animate lands or grab that one specific 2/2 elf out of your deck but idk i just like the idea of a plant holding a sword i think it's funny

Davriels planeswalker ability and sorcery card both doing discard and noncombat damage make so much more sense after this video. I run them both in my mono black. I wish he had a couple more cards, maybe a legit plaeswalker with 3 abilities, or some more sorcery/instants.

Davriel ended up becoming my favourite Planeswalker as soon as I read Children of the Nameless and got to the scene where he is introduced. Just that one scene and the dialogue cemented him as one of, if not my most favourite character in MtG, along with Miss Highwater.
And with the events of War, it seems Davriel is now more Dimir-aligned in Mana, which makes sense as several people I know speculated his colour identity based on the book and guessed he'd be Dimir or Grixis.
Also fun fact: The first (and only) Japanese Alternate Art Planeswalker I had cracked out of a War Promo pack was Davriel himself. Still trying to build him in Oathbreaker.

I think a better static ability for a uncommon planeswalker Davriel could be: "You can play any card discarded by an oponent this turn paying his CMC + 1", I don't think is too broken

You forgot a couple pretty important points.
First, he has one more appearance in the War of the Spark novel: In the same big fight scene where Dack Fayden dies, at one point an Eternal is about to grab Nissa, and Davirel sucks the Elderspell out of it before he can steal her spark. That's a potentially important story thread, which at the very least adds another notch in the "potentially one of the most powerful planeswalkers in the Multiverse" belt, plus it gives him at least some minor connection to Nissa, which adds more weight to your "he might show up on Zendikar" theory.
Second, you should probably point out that the fact that his WAR card only depicts his spell-stealing ability and not his ability to use those spells was absolutely intentional on his part. When he revealed the card, Sanderson had a very entertaining post on his blog in which he described that Davriel was intentionally holding back so everyone else would underestimate him and leave him alone, and spelled out some of his other thoughts on the situation as well. Davriel being written by Brandon Sanderson is good enough for me. He's a very good writer. Here's to hoping Amazon's Wheel of Time series will be good, Sanderson wrote the last three books of this highly influential book series.
Davriel and Anjani are my favorite planeswalkers. I like how he could steal magic and his obscene laziness while holding so much power. The demon thing is new tho even more badass
A demon poisons him at teatime(not to kill him of course),tricking him to use the worldsoul ,or even to reveal the Item he was thinking about when making one of his contracts,things could get super crazy real quick in Dav's world.
Davriel is totally going to be from New Capena. That story is probably going to fully revolve around him. I mean, a 1920's New York gangster plane? Tailor made.

If you watch jojo’s bizzare adventure, davriel’s pose is similar to Dio Brando when he’s sitting, crossing his kegs and holding a mask, the resemblance is uncanny I say, lol
Didn't realize how old the video was when he mentioned there's only one davriel card lol. Was immediately thinking of the arena exclusive Planeswalker where he has you taking offers with conditions the entire video.
Ooh, I think there might be a little bit of flavour in his static ability - if the discard ability represents him stealing magic from others, the damage for having few cards in hand (as a partial result of that theft) seems to me to represent that character 'fading away'. I love this series, looking forward to the next one!

Good as always. While Dav might've been interested in a contract with Ob Nixilis I think it's worth mentioning how nearly opposite they are in terms of motivation since a large breadth of their power comes from causing a cataclysmic event. It's nice to see that range of motivations and reactions in the same slice of the color pie.
My guess is he might appear in our revisit to Innistrad.
I also would love it if we find out that the dead guy's allies were just trying to find him to get some closure on their friend
I love Davriel so much he’s one of the only 2 Mono Black walkers in my cube. I think Idris Elba would play a great live action Davriel, his voice always sounds so confident before he even starts talking. Stay healthy Lore Mage!

I actually really like the theory of davriel on zendikar. He meets nissa, she senses the world soul within him because she is experienced with speaking to them. She could help him with getting it taken under control and help him with defeating whoever is hunting him

I liked a theory on Davriel's card.
The theory was about Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage rappresenting Davriel using spells stolen by some local Dimir's spies.
The recap of Davriel as character was really good, I loved Davriel. Quite intriguing and probably worthy to notice, He stolen and therefore he has with him.... The ElderSpell from an Eternal, so he is equipped to kill one or multiple planeswalker if the situation required it and stealing their sparks

After reading Children of the Nameless I'd have to say I say Davriel Cane portrayed by Johnny Depp.

500 years from now this will be the first video detailing civilzation in our time
I had the idea of a plane that is able to exist within other planes and is a planeswalker, was thinking on the front it is a land that puts counters of some sort on it, and either when it has so many counters or when something happens it flips into a Planeswalker with an equal amount of Loyalty Counters as before it flipped(not sure if counters fall off a card if it flips, whether through 'Morph' or through Daybound/Nightbound)
love your work and just about everyone of your videos. really helps us out here who love magic but cant bring ourselves to sit and read a single book.
This is just my own personal pet theory, but Time Spiral block had a bunch of cards set on other planes. There were a few cards (Patrician’s Scorn and Street Wraith) set on a Victorian plane with a bunch of ghost stuff going on, which personally, I feel may be Davriel’s home plane.

I love your videos and your commitment to Magic lore, something very few other youtubers go too far into. I love hearing about new planeswalkers, and can't wait to see another. I'd love to see a lore video possibly on Angrath or Huatli, I'm a big Ixilan fan!
Ob Nixilis is probably more likely to return in the next zendikar set, but as the 'bad guy' as on the flavor text of Infernal Reckoning it says "When these intruders are gone, Zendikar will be my throne, my palace, my playground". I think Davriel will be sitting out for a few more sets.

I like the subtle hint on Davriel’s WoTS card. He goes to great lengths to secure and hide his identity, so on his card his shadowy magic is obscuring his name. Not sure if it’s just me reading into it or if it was intentional but I like it! 😅

If anything out of the WotS books is to remain canon, I hope it's the Ob Nixilis / Davriel pairing. Obzy himself has wiped at least one plane intentionally, before being bound to Zendikar; so a contract between him and Davriel would become a power struggle with the fate of entire worlds at stake!
