- In the second installment of our new Fried Egg Guides series, Andy Johnson, Will Knights, and Garrett Morrison have a roundtable discussion of the third course built at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, Bandon Trails. They talk about the incredible routing through three unique landscapes and how Trails is a happy departure from the rest of the resort and a must-play on any trip.

The combination of the drone footage with the roundtable discussion is perfect. Definitely my favorite format that you guys produce.
Bandon is my biggest bucket list item.
This was absolutely incredible. Well done to the production of this and the content you’re providing for the people who golf and enjoy the beauty it offers. This was very well done to the point where I’m going to make this my first golf destination trip.
Going in April 2023 and Trails might possibly be my most anticipated course! Great video as always
My favorite course on the property and hole #12 is my favorite par 3 on the property for a lot of the reasons you described!
Going back first week of June. This video was excellent. Can’t wait to get back on Trails.
Couple comments… going to be interesting how the new Doak par 3 might change the dynamic of 14-15. Most caddies at Bandon will say Trails is the best course (I tend to agree). You guys mentioned cypress point having similar qualities, I will actually say I think Trails is the closest most people will get to playing Pine Valley. Very similar feel with the sandy waste areas amongst the pines.
Trails is the best non links course I have played.
To the question at the end of the video about why people don't like the dunes holes at Bandon Trails (1 + 18), I think there are a couple reasons.
First, they are Par 4s where most people won't hit a driver if they are playing the proper tees. People like hitting driver.
Also, they are relatively blind tee shots -- esp 18 -- which many golfers don't appreciate.
Finally, they are hard holes and #18 in particular results in a lot of lost tee shots and can 'ruin' a good round on the last tee.
These are not bad features from a design perspective, but I do think they make a lot of golfers not appreciate those holes when compared to so many other holes at Trails.
Btw - I have played many rounds at the resort and feel Trails is the best course there by far
If the flag on 13 is on the right side of the green, go for the middle.
My least favorite of the Bandon courses. Still nice course though. I like Sheep Ranch and Pacific Dunes.
Sorry to say I was disappointed by the discussion. To much talk about the 3 areas and nothing about the holes. I have played there numerous times. Nothing said about the par 3 I had to hit driver to reach the green!!! But nothing about the hated 14th. Great view. But 95% of golfers will have a 120 yard uphill shot to a diagonal green. The worst hole on the property!
