You guys make a great instructional video, it was just a pleasure to watch! ☺ I'm 66 and still fiddling about with scooters and other two strokes, mainly veterans. But my son has a Zip that got scored, so he's putting on the same Malossi sport cylinder. Already had the same exhaust, Leo Vince. So he was over the hill when I sent him a link to this video.. A very professional video production, and you blokes are entertaining. Thanks !
Thanks MrWhiteamin, appreciate the kind words mate👏 The Zip is an amazing little scooter, heaps of fun for street riding.
62 and still love building fast 2 stroke scooters
best tutorial i have seen in years great work!!!!
Thanks for your appreciation👏😊
My fav part is they aren’t using torque specs, I never been a fan of them 😂 always though who cares if it’s for my scooter
Two true professional's, great video footage and extremely well explained. Well done guys
Thanks Brett🙌 awesome comment!
Guys, massively appreciate the video. It was so comprehensive and I came out with a whole lot more knowledge. Thank you so much and I wish you all the best.
Amazing to receive such a complimentary comment, thank you Charles. All the very best for you too👍🦘🦘
i have been struggling with my vespa sprint for a while i normally only work on classic scooters but now thanks to you guys i found a couple of my bikes problems and got some really good tips. thank you so much!
Really good to hear this. We struggled for many years trying to pioneer solutions to the many problems these little scooties present.
This is the best most clea,r concise instructional video i have seen on my bike. Its told me everything i needed to know in less than an hour. Thanks guys.
So cool, thanks Gt 6. Glad it helped🙌
NO WAY! I never been so proud to be italian like today hahah. Well done guys, it's so satisfing that Zip is loved till Down Under. I'm now subscribed :)
What a beautiful comment! Thank you Giuseppe Bonaviri. We love Italian Scooters in Australia🛵
@@scooterstreetau this is one more reason for me to come there 😁
Well done guys, super happy with all of my purchases and support
Thanks for your support! All the best.
I've been pretty experienced tuning small 2 strokes with manual gearboxes. And I got myself my first ever scooter a couple months ago and it's been really hard for me to tune my rollers, clutch bla bla. This video is definetly very informative about how this stuff works. I am confident that I again can take upon the challange and get this thing running like it should.
Go for it! Test and learn, can't go wrong. Be warned, once you start it is hard to stop tuning.
Great video, really shows how to get the work done!
Thanks Salttoo.
Reminds me of the old days. One day i walked up to the nearest motorshop i always got my stuff. Walked up to that guy and asked him that i was looking for a Polini EVO 70CC for Piaggio. Back then the kit to have (15+ years ago or so). I saw his eyes grow and the next thing he said to me "What the Heck do you need that Kit for??" i imediatly realised i was not going to get that Kit at that time. His reaction on my question was priceless, something i have never forgotten. :) At some point i ended up having the desired kit and it was great fun. Just dont get caught when you run it in the streets.
Good story Johan, 15 years ago only Scooter tuners would have known of these parts😜. The first time someone asked me if I had any Polini stuff I pointed towards the fruitshop down the road.😂
Thankyou guys for a great video, step by step was great and seeing the work being done is great. many thanks again.
Thank you for supporting our Channel, Glad you enjoyed it😁
Great feature length episode guys. Looking forward to seeing more similar content.
Who doesn't love changing clutch springs? 😂
Paul, thanks for the support :) More Vids in the pipeline.
Does this kit change your auto transmission to manual?
Excellent, knowledgeable, concise video.
Thank you🙌
Jeez boys, I had my fist in my mouth whilst you were torquing that head down. Great video.
All for the love of scooters😉
Great pace and nice detail thanks
Thank you👍
Love these videos guys, please do more projects like this!
Thanks for your support Markas, we try to keep the videos coming.
Excellent ! ...well done ! 👍
Thank you👌
what a great vlog, love it
Thanks so much for the comment, all the best👍
Great video!!! Like the finished bike!!
Worked out very nice for the owner, thanks for the love😉
The inlet plate in the carburettors mouth (brass plate) is not a restrictor, it’s actually serving its purpose delivering air flow into the right areas of the carb through the air holes. Often people believe it’s restricting the flow of air, but after performance parts get the jetting right with this little plate still in you will be onto a winner👍🏻 try with and without you’ll notice the sharper response and reliability from keeping the plate as is
Thank you, really appreciate your experience... keeping it in does give better fuel consumption👍
you guys are freaking legends! awesome vid!
Thank you for the great comment and for the view👋🌟👌
@@scooterstreetau no problem at all. I just got a zip and have purchased a few products from you. I hope I got the right ones. Just going to do the rollers, jets, clutch springs. Just to be fair, I have enjoyed thoroughly the video and brought fond memories back :)
Just to point out when you talk about "this isn't ideal to go super fast" perhaps you ought to know that there is a quite active racing scene where these little buggers go up to 160 Km/H
Thank you, and yes we are aware of the Zip race series. Are the race Zips the SP water cooled version? This one is air cooled base model version.
@@scooterstreetau Absolutely correct, the SP is the water cooled one, but to the best of my knowledge it should be possible to convert any version to liquid cooling: the only hiccup would be with the clearances in the leg shield trim, as there's a storage compartment that would interfere with the radiator's positioning. For the sake of honesty though, I'm not going to vouch about the accuracy of the info, it's something I recall from when the SPs where just hitting the market in Italy some 10+ years ago
@@LucaFiltroMan We have done this conversion. We took an air cooled Zip and fitted the Radiator with electric water pump, cooling hoses and the water cooled racing cylinder along with many other tuning parts. We also changed the front panel and fitted a genuine SP front cover so the incoming air could meet the radiator. The performance was as you described, Ridiculous power!! This was an expensive project... We lalso did the Superman theme custom paint job and it did fly🤣🤣.

Haha yes sorry. Thanks for the support ☺
this definitely needed a malossi variator and gear up kit for better top end but wikid video reminded me of my youth i had a 70cc gilera runner that did 75mph + with these mods + the gear up kit and malossi variator.... but yeah great video 😉
Haha the good Ole days.. yes fit more , get more agreed. The Runner would have been mad with those speeds. Thank you for the Sub.
the "emission controller" is actually there to provide a certain amount of oxygen in the catalysator that is in every single stock pipe in european bikes, and theres a check valve so that the exhaust gasses dont go into the variator case or where ever the pipe takes the air from
putting this this kit on my gilera ice and watching the steps as I do it, you guys have done an amazing job very easy to keep up with, I'm putting on the malossi flip exhaust and a dellorto 19mm carb and multivar 2000 variator kit. do you mind of I imbed this video onto our forum? cheers from nz Terry

Great job!
Thank you Air Man🦘👍🦘
Experts who explain fully .
Much appreciated🙌
Enjoyed watching the video Iam wondering how much of the performance increase was down to derestricting the carb would like to have seen this before fitting the exhaust.
Thank you mate👍. If you derestrict the carb only there will be no noticeable gain, due to the balance being over weighted with air. In effect you are giving too little fuel. We want an increase but a balanced ratio of fuel and air. Thanks for the SUB🎅😎
Really enjoyed the explanations and video.
Wanted to ask is there a needle position that needs to be changed or just changing the main jet?
Also Iv seen other engine building videos with cars they don’t use oil in piston or cylinder they use WD40 because it lubricates it until the heat burns it off to commence breaking in between rings and cylinder.
Lastly I was in Thailand and saw someone rebuild a 125 2 stroke he disconnected the oil feed to the cylinder to break in the rings initially have you heard or seen this done?
The main jets 88 in the end, skip the video to 52:00 for a run down. After 2 weeks we followed up with a systems check, we finished the carby with an 85 main JET, Needle is an A22 Middle notch.]
For the WD40 question, 4 stroke system is different, the 2 stroke system has oil and fuel in combustion so it might be best to run with oil...
Great video guys. Thanks from the UK, please let me know if you had to move the needle clip.
Hey thanks henryhaxby, see the description for the tuning points. we start with needle clip in middle position and we leaft it in this position.
Perfect video easy to understand explanation, I’m looking at modding up my tnt Roma 2t I believe it has a Yamaha 2 stroke, would these parts (mainly the exhaust and cvt parts) be easily compatible with it? Thanks!
Glad it helped and appraciate the veiw and comments🙌 The Roma is Minarelli based (Yamaha) so look for these parts. There are many around.

Im lamost there brother!! Messing around with weights i have 6.5g at the moment. Think i will try 6g and contemplaining to put the malossi fly clutch with bell on.
Great stuff, very happy for you😆. Note: The lighter rollers will allow the engien to rev easier but go too light and you will loose pulling power through the mid range. Fitting a clutch or fitting tighter clutch springs will make a positive difference to the rpm build and the initial acceleration.

Really interesting video, watched the whole thing. One question (which I couldn’t find in other peoples questions), would it be the same process for the Vespa 2 stroke 50cc? Thanks and greetings from UK
Hi, and thank you. Yes the Vespa 2 stroke and the Zip 2 stroke are the same engine..👍
Great video guys , question please, my son has a gilera storm, had all the 70cc mods , plus gear up kit etc , also unrestricted coal, cdi, and lots more , the question is the main jet in his 17.5 carb same carb as you have shown in your video is only a 56 , and you have used a 88 , all the work on our bike was done at a scooter shop , have they forget to change the main jet ? Or do you think a 56 jet is ok on a 70cc. Hope you can help us , many thanks !
In our experiences, if we did not make the change to the main jet the engine would sustain damage due to overheating, lean on the fuel mixture. It is always hard to comment on others work so ultimately best to check with the installer of the parts, they may have upgraded the jet or had a suitable reason not too.
Hi there,
Just wanted to ask a quick question: Does the 70cc Malossi Sport piston rings have any particular position where you placed them on the piston as I cannot see no markings at all on both of the rings.
Thank you.
Both rings are the same, so the position can be top or bottom. Read the instructions if unsure.
Good work👍 🇮🇶
Much appreciation👌
This titorial made me have the balls to buy a 70cc malossi sport to my Piaggio zip 02 2t... Finished it yesterday and tried it on today. I listened to my friend regarding to the jet, he told me mid 90s but i habe a 96 now and i cant even lile gove it more then 1/4 of gas before it starys to like blurr and lost power . I will try a 88 jet tomorrow.
And also order a weight kit. I already have a jet kit.
I also have a malossi fly clutch with bell i have to put on. But thinking i had to run in the new malosssi cylinder first?
Thanks for this video much appreciated ❤❤💯💯
Well done! and a great achievement to have a go, I am sure it will be a success. With the basics, only ever change one part at a time, cylinder first then a quick start, then start the jetting. Start at your 96 and then move down to the 92-90-88 and when it becomes clean on throttle go back up 1 jet and ride it for a fuel tank and then retune. Yes you will notice the revs and movement may not be at their peak so leave the rollers and just add tighter clutch springs or the Mal clutch. and then again test ride and let it settle, adjust as necessary. Then repat with the next part and so on🚀
Hi guys hows it going great video I’ve got a standard 2011 zip 50cc the same as the bike you have here I have bought and installed a Leo Vince exhaust (same as one in video) and the blue clutch springs that come with it also some 6.5 gram mallossi rollers I have also put a 62 jet in the carb the bike starts and ticks over but won’t go more than 10-15 mph could this be just down to carb tuning or is it something else ?🤷🏼♂️
Hi Jay, Thank you👍 Always a good idea to have the scoot running well first. If there are any issues, correct them before proceeding. Is the Leo derestricted? Is the engine spluttering or does it slowly loose power?
Move the needle to the middle notch, Try the 60 Main jet. Report back👍
Really interesting video! I have a Piaggio Fly 50 4T 4V - gets up to about 60 kph. I want it to go faster - am I better buying a 125cc? I’m not mechanically minded at all. Any advice appreciated. Thank you 🙏
Hi Ashley, Thank you. Yes you should buy the 125cc or higher. It is expensive to upgrade the 4 stroke engine and the end result is not as good as the 125cc.
my 2006 zip doesn't have an emissions part fitted ... i like your upgrades !!
Yes the early Zip was PURE. Thanks for watching🙌
Hi guys. Love your work. What’s roughly the cost of the pipe and clutch/roller upgrade for a TGB 50? Cheers

Thank you Joe🙌 Let the engine warm up to operating temp before making a judgement on the tuning. Is it auto choke or manual choke?
Very nice! A bit of discussion around ring end gap wouldn't hurt ;-)

Yes you can do it.. Thank you for supporting us👏
Please do more like this. Also could you do a wheelie build on a zip or another scooter
Always trying. Time is our Kryptonite.
which cluthc spring set did you use, and which do you recomend?, i have the same zip, what are de dimension of the new rollers? (size and weight)
We used the Blue springs for the clutch, this is the set provided with the Leo Vince exhaust. You can also use Malossi spring set, White or Yellow. Malossi Rollers 19 x 15.5 6.5 gram.
Thks four your excellent job I have a Piaggio Zip I like to fix a Malossi 70cc kit on I have a Sp3 Liovince exhaust de restrict can you please let me know whitch carburettor jet size is work better thank you very much
It would be somewhere between 80 and 90. You need to get a range of jet sizes (jet kit), start at around a 90, test ride, reduce to the next size down, repeat until the bike runs cleanly. Taking a shot in the dark on a jet size is very commonly the cause of piston seizure.
Have a question regarding if possible to change my vespa et2 from AC to DC so I could turn the entire scooter lights into LED including odometer lights cannot seem to find a good tutorial video anywhere to even see if it could be done?
You can buy the change over LED globes and they run from the same connections as the existing globe housing, very clever.
The zips are very nice you don’t see them in the USA often I bet they would sell fast here
They would have been a huge seller in USA.. Very popular in all markets.
Awesome video guys!!! Just asking, what was the top speed after ALL of the modifications?
Thanks FTD, we rode tested it at 88KPH but it had more, the original plan was to increase the acceleration and mid range for street riding only and not a build for top speed..
FTD please sub to us. this helps our channel👌
Makes the new reeds a big difference when it comes to acceleration and top speed. Are they better than the original reeds with this setup?
The Carbon reed petals give a snappier response to the throttle action which enhances the engines rpm over the initial twist. The reed petals are provided in the Malossi sport kit for Piaggio. Some performance reed valves are larger and allow more fuel mix to flow.
Hey man! I saw on your Yamaha bws rebuild video you just put on here that you used the molossi multivar variator on it but you put thAt small black washer behind the variator. I didn’t know that. Does it have to be behind there. What’s it do?
Hi Nate, So this question relates to the Zuma engine video, and also includes any Malossi Variator kits that come with a black metal spacing washer. The Malossi kit 51 7075 has 2 washers and for the Zuma fitment the 2mm washer MUST be fitted to set the correct spacing for the variator assembly on the crankshaft. In the above video which is using Piaggio engine you can see the spacing washer on the crankshaft at time position 9:35
I have some questions, what is the brand of those yellow clutch springs, because I can't vind them on the Internet, and what kind of compression spring did you put in de scooter.
Hi, You can find all the parts here --- www.scooterstreet.com.au/product-category/piaggio/piaggio-zip-50/
We used the Leo Vince clutch springs. Malossi have the Yellow springs. Original Torque spring.
Thank you very much for the time and effort that went into this video. Very well explained and through this i also found another video for what was causing issues for me, worn Minarelli torque driver.
If you don't mind me asking, how exactly do you go about tuning for the best clutch spring / roller weights ? I have spent alot of time trying to figure it out but it just doesn't come together. I know that lighter rollers mean that the transmission holds a higher rpm while you accelerate, heavier rollers the opposite.
You also mentioned marking the variator to check if the belt rises all the way up. Would you also use roller weights to adjust this or do the rollers just adjust how quickly it rises and don't affect its final height?
Thanks for your help in advance and all the best
We have several other videos that give an explanation of the variator tuning, check them out.
VARIATOR: With everything set at factory as a good starting point, go back to your original rollers, if they are 7.5 grams we have a total of 6 rollers weighing 45 grams total. So we want to lighten the rollers by 1 gram each, let's try the 6.5 grams (total of 39 grams). Marking the variator face prior to closing the clutch cover (which we can check the belt travel after the testing). Now test ride and note the difference. Just repeat this step and reduce the amount of weight change, by this I mean try a .5 gram change or even a .25 gram change for each roller. Your looking for a higher RPM earlier and a continued PULL as the variator changes through the gears.
CLUTCH: The clutch can be set using a higher tension clutch spring set. Many of the Manufacturers have a chart to guide you on the tension of the clutch springs with an RPM engagement chart. So just go for around 5000RPM. This will delay the initial movement as the clutch engages. Remember to revisit the roller weight so the RPM stays optimal and does not dive through the gear change. Patience is the key and also document the weight change and the resulted changes you experienced and the test rides. Hope this helps and thanks for supporting our Channel.👍
@@scooterstreetau thank you very much for the detailed answer. Will look into this.
@@scooterstreetau Just finished fiddling with it, thanks guys it runs very good now.
Putting a rpm gauge on it for testing has helped massively too.
Peak power seems to be around 7500 rpm, with 5.0g rollers and stiffer contra / clutch springs ( polini 3g clutch with green springs on almost full preload and polini evo contra 10% ) it takes off much better and runs at about 7300/7400 rpm in normal city speeds.
One question though, i think that the torque driver starts shifting slightly before the clutch grabs. Should i try fitting an even stiffer contra spring to make it shift later?
Thanks again, very much appreciated and all the best from Germany
@@hermmie17 the Driver will only shift if the belt pulls with pressure. Are the springs set too heavy? Are the rollers too light? Play with these parts one at a time to note the road difference..
Hey guys, great video, I am tuning my piaggio typhoon and am currently in Canada. Are there any particular websites or links you guys have for acquiring these parts?
Cheers
Thanks CC, Look for a local supplier, you will get support and spares this way. Or try any of the European suppliers. Germany or UK.
Readspeed scooters will have parts for typhoon. They're based in the UK (stourport on severn) my local.
with the exhaust installation, i saw one of your videos that they have a restrictor in them. did you guys remove it before installing?
Yes we do, otherwise you will not optimise the potential power of the exhaust.
There are two types Dellorto PHVA 17,5 models.
A modified "low emission" type named "OD" with a fat needle, smaller cut away and different needle jet (emulsion tube)
The other one is the "normal" one named "TS. Thats the one to go with. Much more easy to tune in, especially in the middle range.
Thanks EnergyXyx, this is great information🙌. There are more than 11 PHVA in 17.5mm range. Parts change between them such as the slides, needles, atomisers, jets and so on. Heaps of info on Dellorto Uk website for anyone needing.
@@scooterstreetau yes there are so many models, but just stay away from the bad Euro4 - OD models. The good ones often comes with A20 needle and a 40 degree cutaway throttle slide.

That small intake pipe for air come true I would not takeout from air filter otherwise I difficult adjust airflow and the carburetor hasn't worked properly.
It works very well for us👍 but you must adjust the carby tuning.
I need to make similar applications to my NRG50 liquid cooling. But 50cc and Unrestriction is enough for me actually. These parts are fine for me or I need different ones?
You need to make sure you order the correct parts for the NRG. Some exhaust manufacturers make exhausts that fit all Hiper2 engines (Zip, Typhoon, NRG ect..) and some have specific fitments per model. For instance, Leo Vince make a specific exhaust for the NRG, which is slightly different to the Zip. The cylinder kits are obviously also quite different due to air cooled vs liquid cooled. Most of the parts in the engine are the same.
Thank you for wonderfluly detailed video! Is it mean that Vespa lx 50 2t can be made liquid cooled? What parts from what model shall I use? Thanks so much!
Look into the ZIP SP water cooled engine. It would be these parts to adapt to your Vespa. A combination of Malossi and Genuine parts.
@@scooterstreetau fantastic, thank you!
@@technomama1 Big project but will be worth it👍
@@scooterstreetau I'm halfway of it, just noticed that while casing casting is exactly the same as the one for liquid cooling, the impeller shaft bearings seating is roughly shaped and not bored. I will fit an electric pump I think if they are reliable? And if the electric system would accept that.
@@technomama1 Yes the electric pump is the only option, you can find a variable speed pump that will be best.
I currently have a yasuni r exhaust, malossi front clutch, polini back clutch, malossi cdi, and my carb is tuned. I want to upgrade to a 70cc malossi sport block but i need to know if im gonna need a new racing crank to go with the malossi 70sport block
It depends on what model scooter you have, but generally not unless you install a racing cylinder kit. If yours is a Piaggio engine like this, the factory crank is very strong.
Hi.do these big bore kits need running in, and if so, how do you suggest?
Great video by the way.
Not generally with a 2 stroke, we recommend taking a couple weeks to make sure the tune is right - after that, ride the hell out of it!
Best way to run em in is riding 500km's without using more than %80 of ur throttle
You don't really need to run in 2strokes in. Just a few heat cycles along no open throttle. After around 200miles. You are good to go. Obviously let it warm up at proper temperature. 2strokes dislike being thrashed when cold.
Which jets do you recommend on piaggio zip 2t, with a tuned exhacust, and a polini clutch, and all the limitations is out?! and my carburetor is a 17.5 mm...
Buy me a coffee and I'll help you out as much as I can.. See home page for the link.
I've got my Zip 50cc cylinder up to 75km/h on the flat (modded Carby, pipe, clutch, variator and I'm rather light) and suspension isn't Ideal lol, very light forks have almost no road holding through bends, currently working on an SP front end swap...It's fair to say this lil thing scares me more than my other bikes simply because it feels like it's gonna crash every second corner 😂
Nice work. Haha yes the steering is lost when riding the Zip. Set the seat on the lowest position and hang on..
Pipe? Exhaust right? Not familair with how they name the parts in english.
@@emirhan030 yes, the same meaning👍
I want to install the leo Vince tt exhaust on my completely stock 2017 aprilia sr50r and Im just wondering if I copy the exact way you installed it same jet size and rollers etc would it run the same and if not do you know what parts I should use? I’m a new rider so any detailed info would help thanks
HI Ally, Each scooter is different and will require it's own jet size and roller weight. There will be a formula that works best for each individual scooter. Would be best for you to follow this video czcams.com/video/kFr0nwXf448/video.html and this watch these to help give you an overall idea.

Do you guys have any original italjet dragsters in Australia?
I'm still tempted to do my stock minerelli engine out of mine in full malossi parts now!
Hi There, Yes we do have the Italjet Dragster in Aus, we have 4 customers with this machine. With the upgrade, Go for it bang it up and burn🏍🏍🏍
@@scooterstreetau great stuff! One of my all time favourite scooters! It's been off the road since 2007 as parenthood and mortgages have stopped play for that long but I think I will have to do it soon!
I have only just finished restoration on a italjet formula too!
@@charlieboy259 Great, yes very rare over here, 3 of the 4 we service are modified and really have plenty of power and such a unique style.
@@scooterstreetau cool stuff! keep up the great work guys!
@@charlieboy259 Thanks CB.✌🦘🦘🦘
Did you have to Remove the old oil tank to mix the oil or did you have the oil tank left?
The scooter was running before we started the upgrade process and the oil tank had sufficient oil level to complete the job.
Did you have to adjust needle jet or leave it set as per factory and did you have to derestrict the cdi.
See the Pinned comment > The main jets 88 in the end, skip the video to 52:00 for a run down. After 2 weeks we followed up with a systems check, we finished the carby with an 85 main JET, Needle is an A22 Middle notch. An A 21 needle makes a smooth throttle at the lower RPM😎
does this apply to a gilera runner sp 50 LC? im not quite sure and cant find a definitve answer, but does lc stand for liquid cooled?
Usually LC stands for liquid cooled yes. The only difference between the two from a tuning perspective is the liquid cooling.
do the zip 50 2t 2017 have A RESTRICTING WASHER ON THE VARIATOR SHAFT?
Yes, between the 2 driving faces. It looks like a simple wedding ring.
Hey guys, quite obsessed with your CZcams channel at the minute can’t stop watching the vids, my dad and I just bought a 2009 Piaggio Zip. We have the yasuni R derestricted and malossi variator for now. We need to derestrict the bike, I’ve watched a video of yours where you take that plate out but I need help on choosing a new main jet for the carb? Do you have any recommendations please I saw on one video you guys put a 62 jet in but that currently means nothing to me I’ve looked on our local website and there are 5mm jets 6mm jets etc? I hope this makes sense and any help is appreciated thanks from England 🇬🇧
Hi Callum, what a great message, thanks buddy👋👍.
With the Yasuni R you should have already: Upgraded the jet size, adjusted the rollers and added clutch spring set.
You Should remove your current jet and heck the sizes to get up to speed with the size lingo. The Zip has 6mm jet with a size of 53. You should start with a jet size of 62 and move from there.. it is important to do the other small parts I have mentioned..
@@scooterstreetau thanks for the speedy response guys, haven’t fitted any parts just yet I just wanted to make sure I got everything together first before we tackle the job. Thanks for your advice guys I’ll start with the 6mm 62 jet
@@callum14p Great plan👍
Hi there, back again we finally fitted the parts to the scooter.
Malossi variator with 7.5Gram rollers and added yellow clutch springs as well as the yasuni exhaust. Fitted a new carb as well as the other one had been abused and the thread on the main jet had been stripped. Took it for a ride out yesterday and acceleration was weak and top speed to 60 kph. Also main jet size is around a 65 jet according to the box on the new carby. Hope you could shed some light on how I can fix the slow issues.
Appreciate your knowledge
Is it worthwhile doing the exhaust only and keeping it at 50cc? (obviously with carb, variator etc etc upgraded also)?
The first step of a speed gain project would include the exhaust. Also main jet, rollers and clutch or clutch spring set.
Hey Guys! Would you be so kind to specify (stiffness/ rpm) the clutch springs you’ve ended up installing? Color codes are sosososo different from brand to brand. Are they the blue ones from the Malossi MHR spring kit?
Thank you for your recommendation on the exhaust, I’ve got the Yasuni R 💪🏻☺️
So right now we have the 70 MHR replica, 22 phvb, and the yasuni. Which color would you recommend to opt for from the delta clutch kits (white, green, yellow/red blue black)? Can’t decide between the yellow or red ones. They both target 6-8000 rpm in the manual, but the red ones are stiffer. 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for the help and the amazing support for the community
In this video we installed the blue leo vince springs on this particular bike. The TT and Malossi Sport cylinder make a fair bit of torque down quite low in the rev range so the springs didn't need to be drastically increased.
On your bike with the parts you've mentioned, I would aim for around the 6k rpm engagement. The MHR Rep is a great street cylinder because it offers a fair bit more performance than the Sport kit - but in a much lower rev range than a race kit. Its making really good torque around the 6k rpm, much more than that will more than likely lead to clutch glazing and then slipping. You'd really only go for more than 7k rpm engagement on a bridge port race kit which needs big rpm to make power. We often preference the Polini G3, the adjustability is quite user friendly, but the Delta is also a great clutch.
Use yellow or white springs. And a white contra spring. Avoid red springs they're only decent for a race clutch with the 94cc malossi kit.
@@JDMz We've found the yellow Malossi springs to be ideal with most basic 70cc cylinder kits and exhausts, the white can often be a little too close to factory. Factory or white contra is great with a basic 70cc build for sure.
Great video guys! How do you set the oil pump for the bigger kit from 50cc to 70 cc? Do we need to set the oil pump to give more oil or leave it the same?
Thank you😁 We check the oil pump and ensure the integrity of the system. Must be pumping and all working, hoses, clamps check it all. We make sure the pump cable is tight and responsive to the throttle cable.
@@scooterstreetau Ok will do so ! Thank you !
@@flawlessmusic8850 I almost forgot, check or change the oil pump BELT, this is most often overlooked. Should be changed every 10k.
@@scooterstreetau I changed it with a new one ! The only think is missing is to find the main black round oring gasket cause it loses a drop of oil once per while and it makes a little mess on the inside . At the moment I took the pump out to clean it and change the oil oring gasket … so I am running pre mix.
@@flawlessmusic8850 If you are not using the oil pump disengage it. Premix is safe as long as the fuel/oil mix is consistent. Good luck👍👍
With gearing 15/38, all the other mods except DR evo (2 foot gaskets no headgasket) and Sito exhaust you can do already around 105 GPS after some slight mods to Exhaustport and Reedcase. I think your setup is far from optimised. That exhaust also kinda screws the powerband the Mallossi sports likes.
Nice to hear👍👍
Hi guys,
What scoot would you recommend for a 50cc 2 stroker scooter thats on the market today that can achieve that "super quick" status you talk of?
Any water cooled 2 stroke. In Aus. not a broad range. Aerox, SR50R. otherwise Zip.
Well actually when u upgrade ur motor and motor parts u have more power so actually you should put less stiffer springs on the clutch cause the motor has more tork and doesn't need to stard reving verry high before clutching the wheel just so u guys can know
Hey Alixglow, whatever works for you and what your riding style is, so go for it. Good to hear your comments.
We would apply a stiffer clutch spring set to delay the engagement of the clutch. Some of the race brands have designed a HIT clutch which allows the rev to build and then the clutch will engage to boost the initial acceleration. If you have less tension on the clutch springs the clutch will be engaging at idle, have seen this many times before.
When are you going to start a vid series on the Gilera Runner 180??
We don't have many of the Gilera Runner 180 in Australia😓
If you drop a circlip in the crank, a magnet on a stick is your friend ;-)
Good tip👍🦘
does the piaggio zip have the same engine as the aprilia sr50 2019?
You probably noticed apart from the water cooling system on the SR50R, the base of the 2 engines are the same. You will notice between the Piaggio/Aprilia 2T models they look the same but each model has a different transmission length to accommodate the rear wheel, this includes each model running a different belt size to connect variator to the rear pulley.
I believe 2019 SR50R has the new Euro 4 emissions system also, which uses a different carburettor, stator, coil and CDI/ECU. It also has the larger temp sensor on the head, and the solenoid air valve for the electronic control of the carb.
@@scooterstreetauwith the length difference would it be worth sourcing the longer transmission to help with wheel lift?
Yes if that is the goal.@@jaredpursey3791
