Forever and ever.....
Just discovered it
Me bro
Seeing them in 3 days live!
This would make a perfect soundtrack for the Berserk series.
Perfect for the Femto scene.
the intro sounds like an army of Apostles marching into the mortal world
6:42 one of the greatest screams in music ever.
One of the best album covers ever in my opinion
The whole album is an artistic masterpiece, this song however, this song is on a whole different level. Absolutely incredible. It is my go to when I need to think and just meditate
Into the night i wander
The mind can go anywhere it desires
Black metal masterpiece.

With the album artwork, it creates a magical atmosphere: Something that's hard to explain but it's like driving on a large empty road in the middle of the night through plains and mountains with a full moon out. It's the nicest of feelings.
Ice cold and beautiful. Ihsahn is a genius.
@Dragonlordfrodo TV hahaha he was in for what ? Since when is that A crime
Black metal couldn't get any better than this. Listening In the Nightside for 21 years and still loving it .
like 12 years for me now, appreciation for it still growing lol
@@broquestwarsneeder7617 You're 14 now I guess

This is how you do symphonic black metal: keyboards in support of the guitars, not as the main focus.
True

Plenty of moments where the keyboards overpower the guitars. It's not a matter of which one should be louder or more prominent, it's about when each element of the music should be given a spotlight. It's a balancing act.
Beautiful...what an atmosphere...
7:26 that screech + that blast beat + that riff = automatic frost bite
Am I the only one who has goosebumps when the thunder comes at 0:54? One of the best intros ever
Jonathan Grass same!
Great one
I have a problem with that haha. The thunder destroys the idea of cold winter
@@mitchconner2165 Lightning can strike in a blizzard / snowstorm, I'm pretty sure.

A cosmic journey through time & space with the black wizards of extreme metal 🤘
8:14 gives me chills. One of the greatest symphonic parts in any black metal song ever.
Yep, I posted much the same sentiment 8 years ago, and it still holds true. That part is what I keep coming back to. That is what made black metal "click" for me.
I will never forget the days when I first listenend to this in the early 90s. When BM still had atmosphere and was a dark mystic aura...These were the days......long gone...But this album still has the ancient feeling I will never forget.
As the Darkness creeps over the Northern mountains of Norway
and the silence reach the woods, I awake and rise...
Into the night I wander, like many nights before,
and like in my dreams, but centuries ago.
Under the Moon, under the trees.
Into the Infinity of Darkness,
beyond the light of a new day,
into the frozen nature chilly,
beyond the warmth of the dying Sun.
Hear the whispering of the wind,
the Shadows calling...
I gaze into the Moon which grants me visions
these twelve full Moon nights of the year,
and for each night the light of the holy disciples fades away.
Weaker and weaker, one by one.
Weaker and weaker, one by one.
I gaze into the Moon which makes my mind pure as crystal lakes,
my eyes cold as the darkest winter nights, by yet there is a flame…
It really feels like a Dark Souls Boss battle theme
it's a better theme for bloodborne
or a third age total war siege
Glori4n old iron king meets nameless king
Can't have a Dark Souls comment without a Bloodborne reply

one of the greatest albums of all time
I remember hearing this album when I was sixteen. At the time, I was just discovering black metal. I still remember the feeling of buying the album due to being in awe of the pure beauty of the album art. Once the intro set in, I was hooked. But when 4:53 of this song started to take its course, my mind became trapped in a world this dimension does not hold. Nothing has matched this particular feeling, even to this day. There will never be another album quite like this.
Such a good album cover
Kristian Wahlin is, in my mind, one of the best cover artists for metal records. His other amazing works are Bathory's Blood on Ice, Tiamat's Wildhoney, Dissection's first two albums, Wintersun's debut, and the first 5 Ensiferum albums.
huh, didn't know those were all the same artist. Come to think of it though, those all do have very similar art styles
@@penguincamp Also the cover of the album named Overlords of the greying dawn by Draconis is pretty awesome
Its nice to find a metal video where everyone is talking about metal and not arguing or mentioning pop stars.
This album manages to bring the beauty of classical music and mix it with the harshness of black metal, thus creating a masterpiece of its genre and one of the greatest records of all time.
"May these moments under the Moon be eternal.
May the infinity haunt me... In Darkness...."
--------------fucking epic--------------------

The lyrics are awesome for sure.
It's like a story. A lot of Black Metal is that way.
yes
Emperor always! Into the infinity! Hail
Good old times. Outstanding "wall" of sound and atmosphere.
First black metal album I ever bought was In The Nightside Eclipse and I can never forget how this opening for this majestic and beautiful album felt (2) decades ago. First two lines describes how I felt back then. And I still feel the same. One of the greatest albums ever.
"As the Darkness creeps over the Northern mountains of Norway
and the silence reach the woods, I awake and rise..."
What a crazy lucky choice. You got the best one at your first try!
Bought in February 1995 (28 years ago, fuck!). My first Black Metal album. The best Symphonic BM ever released.
Amazing record. They were so young when they made it. Timeless classic for sure.
what a perverse atmosphere, by far in my opinion the best black metal album ever made.
Agreed. The atmosphere on this record is unmatched.
The first 40 seconds or so, makes me feel like I'm in a frozen abyss, leading a goblin army through the dark tunnels marching to attack.
Still fucking majestic & brilliant.
Timeless classic!
this was not really meant to be as full of hate, it was meant to be the coldest, most despairing music one has ever listened to, to send chills down your spine throughout the whole song
Really dark, magical atmosphere. So good.
atmosphere out of this fucking world
I am new to Norwegian Black Metal, and I've gotta say this is astoundingly powerful music.
I do not like black metal but there is something about this album that draws me in.
+kamelotmerlin If you can get on this album's level then you're in pretty good shape to appreciate other black metal acts, especially Norwegian.
You might like symphonic black metal which is what a lot of non-black metal lovers are into.
It’s because this actually took true talent to create. A lot of other black metal, not so much.
@@sammyshehole Agreed 100%.
@@toprak3479 Dude I see you everywhere
It is still amazing to me how a couple of kids in their teens can produce music like this. Out of this world then and now as well. Excellent song.
Mortiis carried their "sound"; without him, they're basically an Immortal ripoff. Even on Ye Entrancemperium the opening riff is stated as Mayhem's, then clearly goes into a deconstructed Hvis Lyset Tar Oss main riff ripoff and the rest is circus music.
And Satanism itself is alien, christian and NON-European. Total clowns.
Highly Glorious
I'm just here to remind you that we listen this in 2022. And we love it!
Man, such a huge atmosphere in this song...
This album is a journey!
So Great. The album artwork is absolutely beautiful, if i stare at the cover while listening to this it makes the experince even more epic!
"yet there is a flame inside, it guides me into the dark shadows beyond this world, into the infinity Of thoughts...!" AN ANTHEM.
Yeah & it's too bad that so many brilliant lyrics like that are totally indiscernible. What is the point of writing lyrics at all when absolutely *_no one_* can make them out?
who that lyrics understand have a totaly different thoughts and a special perspective of all things.
*****
Some people CAN make them out. Just because you cannot does not make it pointless. To each their own I say. Wanna hear music that is entirely indiscernible? Try some of Xasthur's music. It's so low-fi it can be near impossible to make out the lyrics. Yet there is still someone out there that was able to make out what was being said and write down the lyrics and put them on the internet. Can't understand what's being sung simply have a read through the lyrics while listening to the song and bam. Now it can all be understood. :)
The point is creating an atmosphere of horror. Much like in death metal with the gutteral low end growls, black metal uses the highs to reflect a feeling of horrific suffering and demonic possession and things of that nature. Your vocals in this genre are an instrument of their own.
The song that has mostly changed my life... Emperor ruled! \m/
This song just overloads me with it's kickassness and it's epicness. I cannot handle how amazing it is. Actually one of the only few songs that make me feel THAT intensely. It holds nothing back. Absolute brilliant masterpiece.
Bear in mind that the creators of this alb had around 17 18 or 19. And this album didn't take one week to create..burzun and Windir are two other examples of teenagers creating masterpieces
The atmosphere of this song is awesome, but so is the whole album.
Roaring like a wild beast, this tracks rips the night boredom apart. Hails Emperor!
What a monument
Pure masterpiece
This song is black metal at its finest. I have yet to hear one better.

i was just saying that when this was recorded he was 18. well. i'm not gonna bitch about anything. Ihsahn is a genius. cool that you've met him!
Emperor, Limbonic Art, early Gehenna and early Satyricon were making this majestic, mystical, phantasmagoric sound which transcends reality and drives imagination to the inner boundaries. A truly Jungian, ecstatic, darkly celebrating sound of a beastial unconscious. Its been a long time since i've listened to black metal but the memory of this has stayed. I also see that today there are good avant-garde black metal bands like Blut Aus Nord and Deathspell Omega pushing the nightmarish
The best album cover of all time.
proud owner of this release.🥶🤘
This is amazing. it breaks my heart, then sews it back together again with it's beauty. I wish I could die and live in this song forever...

Amazing song.
Maybe one of their best songs, this is just incredible the power that give this song !
I like the intro because it sounds like the descent into chaos and madness... which is the rest of the song. Good in an obscure way.
amazing atmosphere
