It is still amazing to me how a couple of kids in their teens can produce music like this. Out of this world then and now as well. Excellent album.
That is apparently why Isahan never got into trouble with church burnings and things he was too young. Lol
Especially when you think of the fact there was only a few black metal bands at all at this time. They're inspiration was few and far between for this type of music. Then they make the darkest, dopest black metal ever. That really cooks my brain. Like now, you have an endless amount of inspiration, tons of sick bands to listen to.

Undeniable classic. It keeps surprising me how great it is everytime I listen to it.
Since 2017 till 2023 this album is stuck in my car's cd player. I'm happy I haven't lost it yet!!!!!!!
Para mi la obra maestra absoluta de Black Metal de un grupo que nunca se estancó en un sólo sonido sino que se han reinventado constantemente. Los teclados de Ihsahn son épicos y atmosféricos trasladándote a un inframundo frío y oscuro, etéreo. No quiero llamarle black metal sinfónico como han catalogado a Emperor. Este álbum es una mezcla de el sonido crudo del black con sonidos casi progresivos. Este disco ha sido influencia para muchísimos grupos de black metal de hoy en día. Una joya que sigue vigente y no pasa de moda.
After decades of listening to Black Metal, I have come to the conclusion that this is the very best of All Black Metal
In a list of heavy metal with all the genres this album deserve a place. One of the best metal album of all time.

@@iliasgkalgkanopoulos8397While Emperor is certainly one of the pioneers of the early Norwegian scene I don't consider Nightside Eclipse to be true black metal. It sounds more like Swedish death metal with its cleaner, heavily reverb-ed soundscape. I would argue that Gorgoroth's Antichrist, or Immortals Pure Holocaust, or Darkthrone's unholy trinity are more representative of the genre.

This is an incredible listening experience. Now I know what symphonic black metal is SUPPOSED to sound like.
It's hardly symphonic, but the keyboard parts are definitely so well done you almost want to label it that way
Most of Symphonic bands like Limbonic Art and what not, lack creativity of melodies, they just focus on atmosphere that isn't there. Dimmu is great but far from black metal. Emperor is kind of the only great SBM :p

@@komet5420 Well yeah, they have good moments but guitars are unaudible and "melodies" are sometimes unlistenable. Moon in the Scorpio 3:11 timestamp for example, that part is just awful. Although rest of the song is pretty decent
Emperor both invented and destroyed the symphonic BM sound, for they created masterpieces that could never been approached by their lesser disciples to come.

Great, dense, unrelenting, atmospheric album. Took me a while to get into as opposed to other Norwegian black metal albums, but now I love it and will continue loving it.
Relentless. From start to finish. Still remember locking myself in a dark room and blasting this album on full volume on my Hi-Fi. Twenty four years later and the only thing that has not changed is the quality of this album .
The relentlessness of it is probably my only gripe with this album. I love each song but have a hard time listening to the whole thing in one go.

@@JM-wz1nn Pero eso era una decisión artistica, el low fi era la idea del Black Metal ideado a partir de Mayhem, ellos querían sonar así de mal, siempre fue intencional. Lo podés tomar o no.
Todos dicen lo mismo..que tal album es el que cambió el genero , que es una obra maestra, que marcó un antes y después..quién tiene la verdad absoluta...todo es subjetivo...a algunos no les parecerá bueno y por eso es tan mal???...

@@chickenbeek oh awesome!. my behemoth tour shirt from 2017 is a bit faded unfortunately. the lineup was slayer, lamb of god, and behemoth and that was before slayer wanted to quit. so i saw slayer's last tour and i wish i never head banged to that concert because i can barely remember it but i think i will wear that shirt this tuesday. its a good shirt not to mention its a piece of Metal history.
Un album bastante adelantado a su época, pienso que para lo que se venía considerando Black metal hasta el momento, este album fue la primera vez que una banda intentó hacer Black con una buena calidad en cuanto a la producción, algo que en discos anteriores era difícil de ver, siempre primaban unas producciones muy de graraje, en cuanto a la calidad del sonido.
Pero eso es lo que lo hace diferente ahora y siempre, ese sonido de garaje y emperor fue mucho mas alla mágico encantador!
