who's more burly? | MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK | NP #10 of 63

Experiencing the highest volcanic peak in the contiguous US - which is surrounded by 28 glaciers and protected by a place called Mount Rainier National Park. Let's set up camp and get hiking!
In our last few days of the Washington roadtrip (from Minnesota), we made a 3 day camp in Mount Rainier National Park. Instantly, we were blown away by the grass covered mountains, beautiful trees, radiating lakes, and incredible hospitality we found here. It was very different from Olympic, which had coastline and rain forest. We quickly understood why this was a mountaineers paradise.
We decided to stay on the east side of the park in White River Campground - mainly due to it being less touristy and not as crowded. This campground is actually many climber's starting point when attempting to summit this beast. Being at the end of the season and middle of the week, we had no problem finding an open campsite!
Hiking was the priority - we had just spent several hours in the car. Our experience included two major hikes within the park: Dege Peak via Sunrise Ridge Trail (out-and-back, 4 miles total) and Glacier Basin + Burroughs Mountain trail(s) (loop, 10 miles total). Dege Peak was a good warmup, and offered panoramic views of the Sunrise area. Glacier Basin was beautiful and we ate lunch near a glacier fed river. When turning onto Burroughs Mountain trail, we encountered a lot of fog which hindered our ability to ever see Mount Rainier. I highly recommend either of these hikes! Here are the AllTrails links:
