One of my favorite songs of all time. I was thinking about how fun could be an unreal live jam session with Queen on stage...so this is my interpretation!
Why did Freddie sing ‘39 in the live show instead of Brian ? “The truth is quite simple, really. As time went on, we appreciated more and more that having one of the best singers in the world, it made sense to use him as much as possible. It was not just his actual vocal prowess, but his ability to connect with the audience and be the figurehead - the channel - for the Queen show. It would have felt uncomfortable for me to have Freddie hanging around on stage just do sing backing vocals … and if he went off for a rest instead, we’d be lacking one of the three parts for the choruses. So I was more than happy for Freddie to take the lead on my songs in a live situation. So was Roger. There is also the bonus that NOT singing lead vocal enables a guitar player to put more expression into the playing, even though it’s ‘only’ rhythm. This means the band was functioning in the way it worked best - with each of us at our 'station’, and the engine at full power.” Brian May (from Brian’s soapbox)"

In the year of '39 assembled here the volunteers In the days when the lands were few Here the ship sailed out into the blue and sunny morn The sweetest sight ever seen. And the night followed day And the story tellers say That the score brave souls inside For many a lonely day sailed across the milky seas Never looked back, never feared, never cried. Don't you hear my call though you're many years away Don't you hear me calling you Write your letters in the sand For the day I take your hand In the land that our grandchildren knew. In the year of '39 came a ship in from the blue The volunteers came home that day And they bring good news of a world so newly born Though their hearts so heavily weigh For the earth is old and grey, little darling wellaway But my love this cannot be For so many years have gone though I'm older but a year Your mother's eyes from your eyes cry to me. Don't you hear my call though you're many years away Don't you hear me calling you Write your letters in the sand For the day I take your hand In the land that our grandchildren knew. Don't you hear my call though you're many years away Don't you hear me calling you All your letters in the sand cannot heal me like your hand For my life Still ahead Pity me.
Amazing. This is the only time you'll ever hear me say this and don't judge please but I think Brian's voice fits slightly better with the tone and overall message of the song, but Freddie is still amazing though.
@@JimmysViolinBow Brian doesn't have a good voice - ... he has an extremely nasal voice. ..and often makes a false sound ... and keeps falling out of rhythm..just listen ..sorry..
I LIKE it! Look up my own virtual collaborations with Gallagher & Lyle here on YT, especially 'Conversation' - which sounds even more Celtic with the addition of my penny whistle!
As a violinist, and a huge Queenie with an infinite love for the band and it's members (especially the handsome space-poodle who wrote this song), I desire the sheets for this interpretation. Are there any available?😁
Dear Lord, the harmonies, the backing vocals of Roger Taylor at 1:35 are truly magnificent.
Can't you hear my call
I'm pretty sure by that point it was a harmoniser on Freddie's voice
@@leondorenah it wasn't. It was on the final line of the "aaah" section though.
I love the violin that was great 👌

At 2:29 a fan threw a hat on the stage a Fred wore it for a bit theme throws it back 😭 I-
so sweet freddie omg ... so miss him ..
At 2:38 it looks like he gives a thumbs up to the person who threw it
@@micklatham8494 he does! 😍
Terrific song, great performance, and you made it even better. Thanks!
Thank you for watching!
i've been a "fred head" for 30 years, and don't normally like it when queen songs are fucked around with. that being said, this is really good.
I'd leave a like right now but the amount is currently 39. I shall return when the amount is 40 or higher.😁

Wonderful song, and I love the violin thread!
Thank you
Love this, when all band sing. Cute song, love this marching song.
Great performance. And notice John Deacon keeping the whole song going with a bass flourish in the last 25 seconds 😊
😂
And the 1st 25 seconds.

Definitely Brian's voice is excellent for this song

Brian's voice, Freddie's voice, the real singing star here is Roger! Even Freddie could not reach those high notes.
A guitarists' song....:)
Like a full blown country song

Completely acoustic concert, 🎉

Live Killers version! Very rare video! Actually the first time I saw it. Sorry, but the violin is superfluous!
