After loving this song for decades I finally learned it and played it in a short set for fellow sci-fi music nerds. I intro'd it with, "This is a song about leaving home, love, loss... aaand relativistic interstellar space travel. Not too many songs written by astrophysicists get radio airplay, much less wind up on multi-platinum-selling albums. Yeah, THAT Venn diagram just got real small, didn't it?"

I heard Brian talk about the Tenerife observatory in an interview and I would love to go to there someday. 39 is my favorite Queen song as well and is the main reason I bought a 12-string. It is remarkable how good Brian's voice still is.

@@lucas_bndr I got a fender cd150s/12 used for only 250$ with a hard case. I was very lucky as the few sold listings i could find were 300$+. Of course considering that I can't find any others I'd refer you to the youtuber "8 minute axe" as he has some very good videos on good 12-strings.

I still remember when I heard that song for the first time. I borrowed the "A night at the opera" tape (!!) from a friend and walked home (nearly an hour) with my walkman and that album in my head. At that time I already knew some albums from Queen and of course the "Greatest Hits" Album. But "39" and "The prophet`s song" blew my mind immediately. For all those people out who think that their best songs are their singles. NO WAY. Nearly every album from Queen a handful of songs which are by far better than their singles. Thanks for your music.
