    id recommend cutting a longer piece of pipe and forming it to the shape of your footprint. that way you have a rigid piece running the entire length of the shoe just like commercially produced cycling shoes

    I expected him to put way more glue or some kind of epoxy resin. The concept is great I just would add a crap load more glue or resin, on both sides. The way this was done will cause the pvc plate to rip out when doing any kind of climbing. Kudos for the effort!

    Update on my own shoe modification:
    I have since received my pair of Magped Enduro pedals with steel plates for "cleats" and put said "cleats" on my old shredded-to-sh!t-by-bike-pedals Puma shoes by simply making a pair of aluminum plates with 2 M5-tapped holes each which go inside the shoes, drilling matching holes through the shoes' soles and finally screwing the "cleats" on with some thread locker in the aluminum plates' holes. Due to the very soft rubber compound that makes up the soles I could simply bolt the "cleats" down so hard that they now sit about 1 - 2 millimeters below the surface, as recommended in the manual that comes with the pedals.
    And while my Puma shoes will end up in the trash not too far into the future, simply due to all the wear and tear (literally) my always pretty agressive flat pedals have caused, the modification has turned out to work like a charm and I can see myself doing it again, possibly even the same way since these Magped "cleats" are almost perfectly flat and thus don't need matching holes cut all the way through the soles.
    That all said, I'm still considering getting a pair of proper SPD shoes since there are in fact some that would cost me about half what a new pair of these same Puma shoes would cost, and I doubt that any other shoes that are suitable for this modification would be any cheaper than said SPD shoes.

      @Steven-Sea_gull Před rokem

      This would of been so much better if you had made a complete insole full length of the shoe instead of just around the cleat . The shoe sole would of been far stiffer and less likely for the cleat to pull out or move around in the shoe also a greater surface to glue the insole in

    • @DualDesertEagle
      @DualDesertEagle Před rokem

      @@Steven-Sea_gull It worked just fine the way I did it, the cleats never got pulled out and never moved anywhere! They stayed exactly where I'd bolted them down all the way 'til the end, when I went and got myself a pair of actual SPD shoes! Coz as I mentioned above the Puma shoes I used for this mod had already been torn to sh!t by years of riding with aggressive flat pedals and were destined for the trash anyway, and as such were the ideal shoes for testing an irreversible modification like this!
      The cleats stayed were they were despite not having used any glue, I'd just bolted them into the aluminum plate on the inside really hard, so hard in fact that, as I also mentioned in my above comment, they got pulled into the sole so hard that they sat about 1 - 2 millimeters below the sole's surface as the manual recommended!
      And the lack of stiffness kept the shoes very comfortable to walk in, and while my new pair of Northwave Rockit cycling shoes are also extremely comfortable their stiff soles are the very reason why they can't quite match the comfort that my Pumas gave me even after the modification. And on top of that it was way easier to find the sweet spot on the magnets with my modified Pumas than it is with the new SPD cycling shoes. Don't get me wrong, I still feel much more secure riding with my feet sticking to the magnets, just not as secure as I did when I was still using my Pumas. Maybe I just have to get used to the new shoes tho, especially since I'm usually more of a "middle foot" rider than a "ball of the foot" rider, but for the time being I wish my Pumas had been in much better condition when I decided to do this mod to them and would've been good for another few years of riding.

  • @DualDesertEagle
    @DualDesertEagle Před rokem +2

    Those cleats are sticking out quite a bit tho. Good thing I'm planning to do this with relatively flat magped "cleats" instead.
    I'm sure these shoes here would fuck up my laminate floor pretty good.

      You just need better pedals for that with higher quality. I had the same problem always unclipping when i would skid but i recently switched to the crank brothers “candy 1” pedals and man what a difference. I have yet to unclip while skidding.
