Well I donated. Watched that fight live. One of the best ever. And for that Gerald paid dearly. I get what he did to dogs. But he has suffered enough. I 🙏 the stem cell treatment will help improve the quality of his life.
Id donate if i could
Thank you
mclelan took some heavy shot from jackson, and I think thats what gave him brain damage
Julian trains Gerald’s son now too. Amazing stuff
Straight up??
McClellan was shaking his head continuously following this bout and expressing amazement at Jackson's power. I believe he was damaged by Julian before he even stepped into the ring with Benn.
Oh for sure. He was blinking non-stop
McClellan didnt do himself any favours sparring with Tommy Hearns and Mike McCallum before the Bennj fight either.
Gerald complained of headaches after the Jackson fights. A brain scan might have prevented the Benn fight from ever happening.
I liked the ending of this video very much. The right choice to respect Gerald, not indulging on painful footage about how is he now, but meanwhile asking for help for his family and dedicating the video to a true heroin, his sister. You that made this video, you’re quite a man, you touched my heart. My donation is coming. Thank you.
Well put Massimo. McClellan, thankfully, had done enough to earn his HOF status. Just a reminder of how brutal this sport can be, Nigel Benn should not blame himself.
Yeh it’s nice that they skipped the fact he was a dog killer.
@@henrybrowne7248it’s never the boxers fault. At all. If anything , if you see the full documentary on that fight, his own corner can take part blame.
I wouldn't donate a cent to that dog fighting bastard.
Heroine
Wild how much Jackson catches McClellan with no effect. Makes you wonder if his chin allowed him to take flush shots, but the damage was being done in a different way, leading to the Benn outcome.
I agree, not only did GM take heavy headshots from JJ in the first fight, he also took them in infamous & regular sparring sessions in the Kronk. It is noticeable, again, in their first meeting, that GM was exhibiting blinking & pushing out of his gumshield consistent with what was noted in the NB fight; clearly far less frequently, but te signs were there. Previously, this gesturing was thought to be just idiosyncrasies particular to GM, but, in hindsight, more likely indicators of repeated neurological trauma. In his contest with NB, GM took a lot of hooks to the head, many of those landing as rabbit punches due to the forward momentum of both fighters & Benn was a known headhunter, rarely throwing body shots; in addition to the concussive head punches he took, his style made him prone to head clashes & this was certainly the case in the fight with NB.
It was the roided out benn and his non stop rabbit punches, low blows, head butts, and a slow count in round #1 (never shouldve went past 1) Refs to blame, corner man to blame too. If he had Emanuel Steward in his corner still, I truly believe this outcome would not have been, Steward wouldve blown his mind at the refs, including a voluntary stoppage after the 10th rabbit punch and 2nd head butt. He protected his fighters. Just my .02.
The fact that two legends of boxing fought on Boxing After Dark and not PPV is insane. Couldn’t imagine that as a modern boxing fan where they overcharge for every matchup
Yes in 2023 young fight fans can lap up some youtuber and a supposed pro-boxer/semi youtuber this weekend I think while waiting another couple of years for the possibility of a legitimate heavyweight world title fight in between the circus shows masquerading as boxing.

Don King knew how to do it
Like so many fighters he's suffering in unimaginable ways following his career. Boxing has no health insurance and so unregulated, these men are discarded and forgotten.
Did he loose his vision, almost all his hearing and could not walk at the end?
Guys fighting at the championship level make an enormous amount of money, and could easily afford both insurance and retirement plans; even as an independent (incorporated or LLC). But no one teaches athletes to manage their money. They go from being kids with nothing to suddenly having access to potentially millions of dollars...while still being basically kids. Everyone picks and paws at them, from managers, accountants, agents, lawyers, and even their own family members. They also have the invincibility complex that most 20-somethings have where they don't think the good times are going to end. Before they know it, an injury happens, a better athlete comes along, or even just natural process of aging and their career is over.
As to after-career benefits: there is NO WAY any professional sport would be able to maintain itself if they were continuing to pay for the thousands and thousands of retired athletes who no longer make the organization money. Is it a bit tragic that athletes are viewed as disposable assets? Yep, but those athletes could also spend time focused on how to manage their money instead of living it up during the short time their careers will transpire. Save now, live it up when retired by the time they are 30.

Upmost respect to you man, what a way to end the video. Beautiful to see there are still some boxing content creators that have respect for these great men in the fighters and their families, not views from shock and awe.
If memory serves me it was the first fight with The Hawk that ruined Gerald’s life in the long run; this despite it being the highlight of his career. He complained about headaches after taking too many hard shots from Julian. The damage was done there long before the Benn fight and it’s tragic conclusion destroying Gerald’s life and robbing fight fans of what could’ve been…McClellan v Roy Jones Jr, Toney or Bernard Hopkins. Thanks for uploading this, love the channel 🙌
Those punches did alter his life forever. Had Jackson not had those vision problems in the second fight it would have been a great fight as well but I think G-Man would have beat them anyway. He was a different type of savage. Julian Jackson had one punch knockout power that was harder but G-Man was a whole other type of swarm fighter. If that Nigel Benn fight hadn't happened and it wasn't the power of Nigel Benn that did it either. Watch that fight closely. If Richard Steele would have been there, he would have called that fight in the first round. Lol. Wish he had. G-Man was a monster in the ring
@salahuddinmuhammad3251 Geraldgot battered by Benn. A tragic ending...however, Gerald had a poor defence which is why he took so many big shots. Yes he had Benn in trouble etc bit Benn was a beast himself and thoroughly deserved the win.
Them 3 dudes all beat him 😂
@@mrp9023 Nigel Benn was juiced in that fight he didn’t deserve anything, bum!!! Nigel passed his steroid ways down to his son. Both are a disgrace to boxing

Two incredible fighters. Power punchers that can really box. It is so sad what happened to McClellan.
It's bone chilling to hear him talk about the "mind that he has..." I just wish his sister Lisa all the best in taking care of him, she's done a great job
Yeah it was sad. But I have very little sympathy for the McClellan. He was a piece of sh1t outside the ring.

I fully agree with the opinions that Gerald McClellan was wobbled in the first fight and could have sustained brain injury. Julian Jackson's punches were a freak of nature. So knowing full well that Jackson could hurt him next, McClellan finished the job in the first round in their second fight.
I was actually feeling terrified looking at the two fights.
Everybody in these 2 fights were legends. The fighters and Mills Lane and Joe Cortez. The best refs ever.
Well said not many people acknowledge the referee's, I liked Richard steel as well But Mills lane was my altime favourite 🥊

A very touching & respectful video 🙏 .. the fight with Benn was the best & the worst that I have ever witnessed .. the greatest comeback to the most unfortunate ending ..
cornermen done something to Gerald, he was fine, he quit because he just could not take any more and knew Benn was never going to stop bashing him up... he got off the knee stood was fine spoke t people fine, stood in his corner fine and talking ok, then he sat down cornermen surrounding him along with don king them bam he hits the floor and is in a distressful state. they done something bad to him, you dont go from being realy good to bad that fast.... don king lost a fortune due to Gerald quitting, enough said.
Did you notice in the first fight , about halfway through the commentator said he’s blinking. I’m just thinking of the Benn fight, whether something was up with Gerald then. Respect

Can't believe this fight wasn't top of the card. Lewis, Chavez and this!! What a night of boxing.
Manny Steward told some of us once that Gerald McClellan was the meanest (as an individual) fighter he ever worked with. He said he was just a cruel individual top to bottom. Just something I always remembered, I do feel bad for the guy and always have. Tragic story about a guy whose Bad Karma seemingly caught up to him.
I saw that interview with Manny Steward too. He said McClellan had the widest mean streak in any boxer he ever trained. And he's trained many of the toughest fighters.
@@tomhatton3303 I never heard an interview with Manny talking about McLellan that way, but I can here him plain as day. Me and a few others were fortunate enough to get to talk with Manny prior to an event we were all attending at Freedom Hall in Louisville back in 97', it was an exhibition fundraiser to raise money for what would become the Ali Center. He kindly shared many stories of experiences with his fighters, some good and some not so good, but him talking about Gerald McClellan always stuck with me. It was clear he didn't want to say anything negative at that time about the guy, but clear also that he really had nothing good to say either. He just referred to him several times as a very cruel and mean intended human being, and that he never was able to relate to him as an individual, and that his and McClelland partnership was 100% buisness and nothing more. I believe he genuinely loved to mentor young fighters, not just to be champions, but also to become men. A few names, specifically Gerlad and one other, he never wished to have any personal relationship with.
His other so called trainer after Steward said the exact same thing. He said that when he tried to say a prayer for him before the Benn fight Gerald looked at him and mocked him, all of a sudden you're M'Fing religious now?
@@VCthaGOATdunker Damn!! 😬 that's crazy.
Sounds about white . Y'all want us to forget about y'all past but don't forget about our past . Typical white people 🙄
McClellan KOd Jackson, in both fights, but not without being wobbled a few times. Jackson’s power probably started a degenerative process in Gerald’s brain health. In the 2nd fight McClellan wanted to get Jackson out of the way asap rather than suffer those bombshells he took in the 1st fight. He complained of headaches for a long time afterwards, and couldn’t spar normally.
wow i never knew about this. I never heard of Gerald until now. Anyone who can beat Julian twice is a legend.
“2nd fight, McClellan wanted to get Jackson out of the way asap rather than suffer those bombshells…..”
That’s what I clicked on the video to say. McClellan knew he had to get Jackson gone quick because Jackson had one-punch knockout power.
He definitely suffered a traumatic brain injury that either he or don kings camp didn’t want to address. sad but at least he’s living life still
@@poindextertunesCorrect, and McClellans coach was a useless bag of skin, he didn’t have a clue what was going on. If Manny was there that shit would never have happened. Don King is one man I wish had nothing to do with boxing. He is a remorseless sociopath with no care, or sense of moral duty, he cares only for money and control, that’s it. King also had a hand in coercing McClellan to leave Manny Steward, no doubt it was about money. King was already squabbling with McCllellans family over, fees, prize money, and expenses within weeks of McClellans near death brain injury. King eventually came good with McClellans money, he paid what was agreed with a small amount on top due to medical cost and domestic costs immediately after and when he returned to the US. It’s probably the only thing King ever done right in his life.
@@Pulsonar He's 92 now and still filthy rich and still in the sport of boxing doing his thing. Proof there's no such thing as karma.

Brutal .... Couldn't PAY ME to get HIT by these Men 😮
McClellan was a savage puncher. Such a shame when a young, fit guy has it all snatched away. Injured ex fighters get wheeled out when convenient but I get the feeling the likes of McClellan are basically forgotten by boxing. A small percentage of the profit for every boxing match should go to an injured fighter scheme. Ex world champs like McClellan shouldn't have to live and die in poverty. Boxing is the most corrupt, most dodgy sport. When I see the likes of Jake Paul allegedly earn millions from fixed fights and circus acts it makes me puke.
Me too when you think of the muppets making money pretending to be boxers makes me sick even luke furys turned into a freak show
