  • Welcome back to Boxing After Dark! Tonight, we rewind the clock to 2008. With Roy Jones Jr fresh off a significant defeat to Antonio Tarver and a surprising victory against Félix Trinidad, he wants to prove to the world he's still got it by challenging the 46 and 0 "Pride of Wales" Joe Calzaghe.

Joe's run at the end of his career when he beat Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins and then Roy is what defined him as a fighter. So rare that all of a top champion's defining wins come at that stage but Joe did it. On top of that with his dad by his side all the way. There's a reason everyone in the UK loves Calzaghe.

Calzaghe spent most of his time in Europe scared to leave the East and fight where most of the popular boxing matches were fought, America. When talking about boxers that are the greatest of all-time of any particular weight class, nobody mentions Joe Calzaghe at all. His name is never brought up. Why? Because he was an overrated undefeated fighter. Had he fought Roy in his prime, Roy would have tore his behind up.

A split decision even though Joe was forced to chase him around the ring for 12 rounds. Hopkins wasn’t interested in engaging in a more open fight, as he knew full well he’d get his ass handed to him if he did - hometown officiating at it worst.

Calzaghe wasn't avoided by Roy.
