    Thanks James, great to see how Annie is doing and plans for Uni. I found I made my life long friends at Uni, and my quals were essential for my career now. Tangible skills are always worthwhile, some things just can't be learnt via CZcams, like lab work or things that require expensive equipment. The unis buy that stuff and then train you on it.

    Hi James, neither of my children experienced any racism while they were in Thailand for a year whilst I was in Cambodia with the UN to the best of my knowledge. My children at that time were both very young and primary school age and living in my wife's village next to Udon Thani. I sent my son to St Mary's primary school there because they were supposed to be an English language school to some extent but no one there I ever met including the staff could speak much English. Reference racism, they experienced the very opposite and were treated with much adoration and affection by the entire village. This was to such an extent that they would often get invites to a senior official's gated mansion for dinner and/or lunch. I think this was probably due to him having a son and daughter about their age and he was hoping his children could practice their English with them.

    My 15 year old son is half Thai and has been at school here in North Yorkshire since he was 11. I am so happy that he has loads of really good friends and is especially popular with the girls (obviously gets his good looks from his Mum!). In all that time he has only suffered one incident where a classmate made a racial comment which his teacher heard. The school immediately contacted me and the boy was severely punished. As for Jack, being the character he is said he wasn’t bothered and found it quite hilarious in fact!……he may well go to University in Thailand as well

We are from South London, so not far, but also far enough not to able to commute, so accommodation and food plus 9k per year, is not cheap, but I feel a degree has a value in the corporate world, I never had a degree and i suffered from the glass ceiling, which was also to do with my class (Working), my Son is flying and clearly as no limits, he left Uni 4 year sago and keeps climbing at a very good company. We all have our own opinions about university.
    If you want a government job or to work for a corporation, you may well initailly need the university degree.
    To be a digital nomad and have internet skills is something you pick up from experience and can find out from others on forums and CZcams who have had real life experience and is up to date and relevant that is not generally the case with university and their lecturers.
    One does not need to have a university degree to have a CZcams channel, nor does one need one to open an online shop.

    My daughters who is 3-4 years old is £8,000 a year! Stupid expensive.
    The mixed race thing is very difficult. On one hand they are admired and adored but on the other they face difficulties and 'racism'.
    Let's get something straight, if it benefits the Thais eg they are an actress, singer, sports star, they are Thai100% ,if they are not one of those things they are 'not really Thai'.
    I have a daughter that is mixed UK\Thai like Annie but she is 3-4years old. Thais think she is beautiful, like Annie, but they won't look at them as being Thai, they will never be fully Thai unless it benefits them (back to my first point).
    I play rugby with alot of mixed race kids, Thai\Aus, Thai\UK, Thai\Fra etc and they all say the same: they don't feel Thai, they feel more foreigner than Thai despite born and bred in Thailand, educated in Thailand. When they are around farangs they feel no different and they are 'farang' but around Thai's they are not Thai, they are different.
    It's a difficult one to work out because they won't get any hardships, they'll get told they are beautiful all their lives, however they will also never be treated the same or even accepted.
    My Thai family adore my daughter we are very luckily but they do call her "khun farang suay", it's all said in love and affection but they call her cousin (Thai\Thai) "khun law". They are accidentally separating them.
    My UK family call her "my beautiful girl" just as they do her UK cousins, they are called the same, no separation. No way would they call her my beautiful asian girl.

      Great comment, and have had very similar experiences with Annie both here and in the UK. It does bring up the issue of belonging. As parents all we can do is make them aware of the insular and sometimes uneducated ways of thinking here. I always call Annie a double because she has the best of both worlds and can do what others cannot. Good luck and all the best raising your daughter.👍🍺

    • @Bhatmann
      @Bhatmann Před 2 lety +1

      Ha, you’re overthinking the matter. Doesn’t matter what other people think be it in the UK or Thailand. Your kids have to live in their truth. The truth being half and half. The best of both worlds that is to be celebrated. I am half Asian and because of that, it took me far too long to figure out just because people want to put you in a box, does not define me. That would be their mistake. Growing up some kids considered me White while others considered me Asian. That was their rationalization. It’s tragic to see any mixed kids trying to be something they are not. Teaching your kids history, genealogy and family history is the best protection against uncouth thinking.

    how much did that cost me? Sounds a bit insensitive, I mean it's braces, wasn't her fault she had crooked teeth, if anything you should have sorted that out long ago when she was still a child. With Thais, who tend to see money as the ultimate, if not the only measure of value of people, it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that to be a good parent is to be a good provider, but while it's important, obviously, it's just as important to be a emotionally available, to build a bond with your kids. Perhaps it's not easy if you're separated by divorce and geographical distance and maybe it's not as important for Thais as it is for us, like most Asians they seem to be a colder, more pragmatic, opportunistic and at times even ruthless race, but to produce stable, grounded offspring emotional bonding is a must.
