Great to see you both so happy. You are a lucky dad, very well balanced daughter :)
Hi James, another great vblog.. thank you for bringing us into your personal life, it’s nice to see.
Cheers Steve. Hope all's well mate.👍🍺
Being a good dad is not easy, hats off mate. thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for the rough costings on the University stuff James. In such a competitive world every little help education wise will serve the next generation well. Yisa and I will be looking to put our younger Thai family members through the best educations we can afford. Best from us both as always.
Cheers Nick. Agree, I think a degree is worth having in the long run. I hope you're both well.👍🍺
Thanks James, great to see how Annie is doing and plans for Uni. I found I made my life long friends at Uni, and my quals were essential for my career now. Tangible skills are always worthwhile, some things just can't be learnt via CZcams, like lab work or things that require expensive equipment. The unis buy that stuff and then train you on it.
Cheers Kerry. I hope by going to uni. she picks up a few things that can help fulfill her future goals. Also getting connections and friends like u said.👍🍺

Just found your videos. I just had a daughter in Thailand and will have to go through all this too. It's good that there are videos for me to see other people's experiences.
That video in the description is worth a look. Everyone has different experiences, but best to know what could happen so you can prepare your kids in some way. Good luck.👍🍺
@@jamesabroad8589 I just watched the Luk Kreung generation. I'm not too sure how my daughter will turn out being half but so far, she looks a lot like her mom. I'm half white and half Korean myself. I am always mistaken for Thai from Bangkok or mixed Thai, or any SE Asia country people see me as their own or at least half. I'm excited for the adventure though.
Blighty with the smiles.
Just found you mate , and really like your volgs mate , guna stay tuned in from now on !!!!
Cheers Stephen.👍🍺
Good info as usual. Thank you
Cheers mate. 👍
I love AVALON Bryan Ferry too. My 2nd most fave of my life after MORE THAN THIS Roxy Music. And yes I do miss 89’s music bands.
Yep, often put on 80s play lists and go down memory lane.👍🍺
very polite and well behaved daughter!
Thanks, She is. I'm very lucky.👍
Avalon is where legend has it King Arthur went to heal after being injured in battle. It's amazing how such places are here in Thailand. The Uni fees are pretty decent really. Thanks for the vlog, great to watch.
Cheers Duncan. Certainly a surprise in the middle of a rice field lol. Hope all's well.👍🍻
Great to see you and your daughter having family time they grow up so fast then want less to do with you as they live their own life
Certainly goes quick. We're very close so hopefully we can still spend quality time together in the future. All the best mate.👍🍺
💯👍✅ Big Ups James. Cheers for the upload.
Cheers. All the best mate.👍🍺
Congratulations on having your braces removed Annie. Had mine removed in 1998 best feeling ever. 👍 🦷 😃
Cheers, Yep, she can't stop smiling since she's had them off.👍🍺
Hi James, neither of my children experienced any racism while they were in Thailand for a year whilst I was in Cambodia with the UN to the best of my knowledge. My children at that time were both very young and primary school age and living in my wife's village next to Udon Thani. I sent my son to St Mary's primary school there because they were supposed to be an English language school to some extent but no one there I ever met including the staff could speak much English. Reference racism, they experienced the very opposite and were treated with much adoration and affection by the entire village. This was to such an extent that they would often get invites to a senior official's gated mansion for dinner and/or lunch. I think this was probably due to him having a son and daughter about their age and he was hoping his children could practice their English with them.
I had similar experiences. Annie was treated like a princess at her school.👍🍺
Glad Annie & Bob are both well 😆👍🏻 Yeah, uni isn’t cheap. We’ll have that ‘joy’ end of next year - average uni fees back in Blighty are £9k pa then throw accommodation, resources & living on top .. 🤕 ouch .. 😆 Take care man 👍🏻🙏😎
Cheers Simo, certainly cheaper than the UK. It was about time for a Bob feature.😁 All the best mate.👍🍺
It’s always a great day when my daughter that’s at University and myself meet for lunch.
It will be lovely to meet up with her. I'll be going to Bangkok more often for sure.👍🍺

Avalon was an album released by Roxy Music in 1982 with a single by the same name, sung of course by Bryan Ferry.

My 15 year old son is half Thai and has been at school here in North Yorkshire since he was 11. I am so happy that he has loads of really good friends and is especially popular with the girls (obviously gets his good looks from his Mum!). In all that time he has only suffered one incident where a classmate made a racial comment which his teacher heard. The school immediately contacted me and the boy was severely punished. As for Jack, being the character he is said he wasn’t bothered and found it quite hilarious in fact!……he may well go to University in Thailand as well
Doubles are usually good looking kids. Had one or two small minded people make comments, but 99% positive here.👍
university in Thailand? Why would anyone want to do that, all he'll learn is about the king and ghosts, Thai school system is terrible, probably the last place to send anyone to learn effective reasoning and acquire knowledge.
"especially popular with the girls" lol but like aren't most 15 year old guys popular with the girls regardless of their ethnic background though? Look at the half thai Alex Albon who I don't think is very popular with the girls now even if he were to be single but he must have been popular with the girls when he was 15.
Avalon indeed was a song by Roxy Music (Brian Ferry) from the 80s, a period (in)famous for bad hairdo's and worse music in general. Ferry's easy singing style marked him apart from the rest.
Great video James. That was a nice place for lunch. I’m looking to have a few small businesses in a few years in Thailand. I’m looking to what Thailand is missing. I have some videos on YT if your bored sometime. From Gary in Arizona ( =
Cheers Gary. Yes there are certainly opportunities. CZcams will certainly be a good hobby and maybe a source of income when you move.👍🍻
Dont bother...business here is a total rip off, corrupt, dishonest and working for pennies...
This is the way my Thai son will go college and on the job experience then he will go it on his own my nephew did the same and really has paid of for him big time .
If he decides to go to university in Scotland is free but not the last year but in no shape or form does it exceed 9,000 for that year so a few options me and him are looking at he's 8urs old now speak fluent Scottish English Italian lol so proud of him whatever he wants to do in life as long as he don't waste his life and does something with his life am a very happy father
My son as degree from Brighton in Digital marketing and management. We are from South London, so not far, but also far enough not to able to commute, so accommodation and food plus 9k per year, is not cheap, but I feel a degree has a value in the corporate world, I never had a degree and i suffered from the glass ceiling, which was also to do with my class (Working), my Son is flying and clearly as no limits, he left Uni 4 year sago and keeps climbing at a very good company. I believe the degree as opened more doors than closed.
Completely agree Richard, better to have than have not.👍🍺
Hi mate you looking good and annie beautiful all the best for her course and her future got 12 month before i retire in Thailand keep the vid coming mate set up buy me a coffee
Cheers Peter, appreciate the kind words mate.👍🍺
prestidge companies in asia tend to hire luk khreng over a full local or full farang ..for most positions.
you mean the THAI ONLY jobs...so they can save money ...
My niece went to Brighton University she flunked one year due to excessive drinking and partying . So that was another years cost to my sister . Media studies was her topic , once she qualified she got a job selling bangles and hippy Paraphernalia on Brighton pier . She owes the government a chunk of money but like most students it will never get repaid. She had a wonderful social life , as for the media studies it was a complete waste of time and money. Wishing your daughter the best of luck .
I worked in a college teaching media studies, qualifies them for nothing, avoid anything with studies in the title
I did a music degree which was pretty Mickey mouse. Most go because they don't know what to do yet, or don't want to work.👍🍺
We all have our own opinions about university.
If you want a government job or to work for a corporation, you may well initailly need the university degree.
To be a digital nomad and have internet skills is something you pick up from experience and can find out from others on forums and CZcams who have had real life experience and is up to date and relevant that is not generally the case with university and their lecturers.
One does not need to have a university degree to have a CZcams channel, nor does one need one to open an online shop.
You never know what might happen in the future so better to have that piece of paper than not have it in my opinion.👍
@@jamesabroad8589 i am.surprised that.some people.thought thateducation will.ruin their.lives! Weird right!!
@@onlittlethings5894 I did not say it ruins their lives but it could be a waste of 3 years and if you have to finance the education that isn't used is a crap return on investment. I can say that with a university degree in engineering and a qualified accountant. Next to nothing I learned taught me how to advise companies how to set up systems and avoid tax.
In my opinion, Annie looks very much like a standard pretty asian girl with bright skin. Most people wouldn't notice her English background. Some mixed kids have quite distinguished east west mixed facial features, which make them stand out among other Thai kids. That may cause the gossipy and rasicsm issue.
I can't imagine that a Thai university teacher could teach your daughter how to be a digital nomad. To be a digital nomad you have to be a free and open minded person, have a big desire and willing to take on risks. It doesn't happen fast. Doesn't sound like any Thai teacher I know of. CZcams will teach her so much more. I will go out on a limb and say you know more than any Thai uni instructor. I make my living online through Amazon.
Well she might not be a digital nomad, she might find a company she likes working for. The future is unknown, but I think this degree will help no matter what she chooses to do.👍
Your daughter's uni fees are very reasonable. My daughter's 4 year BS at Burapha Uni (government school) was nearly the same amount. MBA at Assumption was nearly 600K for the 1.5 year program.
Compared to the US and UK certainly cheaper.👍🍻
@@jamesabroad8589 For undergraduates, the average cost to attend the University of Michigan in the US is approx $32,000 /year including books, room, and personal and miscellaneous expenses. And it's RISING.
I've raised three children here in Thailand that are all mixed race,. they are now 26, 25, and 23. none of them experienced any racism at all. in fact just the opposite has been true.
I always thought the same. Since doing a video on the subject it's not all roses for some raising kids here. All the best.👍🍻
Where is the PTT gas station ? It's amazing to find such a market in a gas station although in Europe it's so dull.
Just on the way to Phitsanulok. It was a holiday so not normally stalls like that, but certainly better than gas stations in Europe.👍
Those prices are peanuts, mate. My daughter did hers at a state school, as they call them in the US, and those are the cheap ones and hers was well over $45k for 3 years.
Yep cheap compared to the US for sure.👍🍺
FYI,
I read somewhere recently mixed Thais can not run for public office. I should have marked it for reference because people like to see for themselves. I don’t want to backtrack for this information because I’m trying to be more Thai like and move on. But I will say this information is noteworthy because my friend has two half Thai boys, and I am half Asian.
Yes, I believe that is true. Cannot enter the military too. Annie wanted to be in the army a couple of years ago for some strange reason lol. Not possible thankfully.👍🍻

Aww 🥰 lovely James your right we New someone who had dark skin who was half thai and they really looked down to her it’s mostly the people in Bangkok there very white and sometimes they feel that there better than people who come from Issan and many people in Bangkok were Chinese origin but it’s changing it’s something not talked about some very dark skin people in Thailand have actually gone for jobs and even used lightning skin to get lighter it is north eastern Thailand James good luck to your daughter in romany we say kush bok be good and lucky
True, there is a fixation with white skin not just here but most of Asia. Thanks for the good wishes mate. All the best.👍🍺
University degrees in the west carry not much weight now college then an apprenticeship has more weight plus your not in debt at the end of it .
I guess what I mean university degrees in the west hold less value now cause when they leave university they haven't got experience so less likely to get a job however when your on a apprenticeship or college you have theory and practical behind you and employers are employing these people before university graduates
I love that there’s no such thing as fear of cultural appropriation in Thailand! I mean none, at all. It’s kind of like, just because I’m a Thai girl, why shouldn’t I have my hair in cornrows while wearing a Native American costume?
None of that here mate.I remember a few years back there was a school that had a Hitl*r day ( nutcase leader of Germany 1939) with parades and dress ups. Obviously hadn't looked him up on Wikipedia.😁👍🍺
Sadly the madness is spreading. Might just be a matter of time

Not all University degrees are worthless but alot are...most you can just go to a library or bookstore and get the knowledge without paying some overpaid person to tell you the same thing. Running your own business is the way to go, but also is the hardest and will test the individual and you yourself dont have the knowledge so she will need to find a mentor that runs a business.
I've missed your presumptuous tone Kirk. Hope all's well.👍

My daughters sister went to Khon khean university and because she scored 98 percent the government supported her basically it was free for her she graduated with a bachelors degree in engineering James
Good Uni esp for music
Nice one mate. You must be proud of her. Engineering is a good degree to have.👍🍺
As a comparison with UK Uni...................my daughter same age approx as yours, 4 years at Edinburgh is paying 9K tuition fees and she gets a 9700 maintenance grant too. Her first year in self catered halls is £5500, which leaves about 4K to live on which will obviously still need topping up......anyways, over 4 years with interest at approx 5-6% , she will leave with £85000 of debt..................That's worst case should you need the maintence grant as opposed to working/parents supporting.......................................A great investment for your daughter and very exciting for her......I'm sure she'll do really well, best of luck to her....................................
Yes, not cheap mate. I had student loans to pay way after my degree. Thanks for the kind words.👍🍺
I paid 400k in Bangkok University for a Bachelor's for my daughter , plus add ONS. 10,000 Baht a month food and accommodation.
Depends on the course I think. Looks like I got a good deal.👍🍻

Expensive what I have heard to go to college
Cheaper than the UK and US for sure.👍
My daughters who is 3-4 years old is £8,000 a year! Stupid expensive.
The mixed race thing is very difficult. On one hand they are admired and adored but on the other they face difficulties and 'racism'.
Let's get something straight, if it benefits the Thais eg they are an actress, singer, sports star, they are Thai100% ,if they are not one of those things they are 'not really Thai'.
I have a daughter that is mixed UK\Thai like Annie but she is 3-4years old. Thais think she is beautiful, like Annie, but they won't look at them as being Thai, they will never be fully Thai unless it benefits them (back to my first point).
I play rugby with alot of mixed race kids, Thai\Aus, Thai\UK, Thai\Fra etc and they all say the same: they don't feel Thai, they feel more foreigner than Thai despite born and bred in Thailand, educated in Thailand. When they are around farangs they feel no different and they are 'farang' but around Thai's they are not Thai, they are different.
It's a difficult one to work out because they won't get any hardships, they'll get told they are beautiful all their lives, however they will also never be treated the same or even accepted.
My Thai family adore my daughter we are very luckily but they do call her "khun farang suay", it's all said in love and affection but they call her cousin (Thai\Thai) "khun law". They are accidentally separating them.
My UK family call her "my beautiful girl" just as they do her UK cousins, they are called the same, no separation. No way would they call her my beautiful asian girl.
Great comment, and have had very similar experiences with Annie both here and in the UK. It does bring up the issue of belonging. As parents all we can do is make them aware of the insular and sometimes uneducated ways of thinking here. I always call Annie a double because she has the best of both worlds and can do what others cannot. Good luck and all the best raising your daughter.👍🍺
Ha, you’re overthinking the matter. Doesn’t matter what other people think be it in the UK or Thailand. Your kids have to live in their truth. The truth being half and half. The best of both worlds that is to be celebrated. I am half Asian and because of that, it took me far too long to figure out just because people want to put you in a box, does not define me. That would be their mistake. Growing up some kids considered me White while others considered me Asian. That was their rationalization. It’s tragic to see any mixed kids trying to be something they are not. Teaching your kids history, genealogy and family history is the best protection against uncouth thinking.

Doing when 20 but you can do before. If under 19 or 20 judges have a say in any issues. Certainly worth doing IMO.👍🍺
Why would you want to do that?
@@anthony7091 because you can't buy as a foreigner and I want to protect myself. So if I put the house in my daughter's name, I was thinking I might have some protection. Also she will inherit the property when I pass. I am not married to a Thai either.

Not up on my myths and legends unfortunately mate. 😁 I knew it was something to do with Arthur. Apparently Excalibur was made there too.👍🍺

Her mum must have very dominant genes/DNA!
My thoughts too. In previous video James says she looks Western.
My own "mixed" daughter looks "white" to me. I wonder if Thai people would think she looks Thai? We live in the US. Very common to see in the San Francisco Bay area where my kids were born but now we live in a less diverse area and I always wonder what happens when they start school? Crossing my fingers.
I would be very interested to know how you afford your Thai lifestyle, as you have lived there for many years now, brought up a daughter and are planning to pay for her further education, none of which is super expensive, but it isn't cheap either. how much did that cost me? Sounds a bit insensitive, I mean it's braces, wasn't her fault she had crooked teeth, if anything you should have sorted that out long ago when she was still a child. With Thais, who tend to see money as the ultimate, if not the only measure of value of people, it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that to be a good parent is to be a good provider, but while it's important, obviously, it's just as important to be a emotionally available, to build a bond with your kids. Perhaps it's not easy if you're separated by divorce and geographical distance and maybe it's not as important for Thais as it is for us, like most Asians they seem to be a colder, more pragmatic, opportunistic and at times even ruthless race, but to produce stable, grounded offspring emotional bonding is a must.
