Due to the friendship and generosity of our friends at @leadsteel as well as Sinistral Rifleman selling his plasma to acquire a Laugo Alien, we had the rare opportunity to put both of these $5,000+ pistols up against one another.
So...let's do what InRange is best known for: SCIENCE!
I notice Phagan didn't say whose Kidney he Donated 😀👽
It was from his collection.
I thought I had been feeling weird since CQB.
kidney arbitrage
Some guy's.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Notice all guys shooting the 2011 kept a consistent shooting rate through the drill, whereas shooting the alien, they all sped up after 2-3 rounds, meaning once the got use to the aliens recoil they knew they could drive the gun faster.
Alien won hands down but I bet if they had more time and practice on the platform it would be lights out.
Should've done another run with the Alien
That could also say things about the trigger there since they all said they wished the Alien had a better trigger reset
This was a really cool test, and even as the data is a little more anecdotal than scientific... I still think it's totally worthwhile and compelling
SCIENCE
@@InrangeTv When it comes to double stack 1911s why don't I see people use the Para Ordnance in .45?
@@InrangeTvAs Adam Savage taught us, you have to write it down to make it SCIENCE. Otherwise it's just screwing around.
@@InrangeTvcould you please post graphs of times for each person/model for when they fired each shot?
@@InrangeTv Yeah Mr Karl, yeah science!
Garrett has a cap with Trogdor the Burninator. Clearly a man of culture.
Oh, schnap! I hadn't caught that!
THATCHED ROOF COTTAGGGGGESSSS!
I think a lot of people got sticker shock when the alien came out. But this really is what it’s designed to compete with. If you’re not into this level of competition, you would never think of dropping $5k on a pistol. But that’s actually mid range for what someone the guys spend.
I’ve seen race rigs in the $10k range when fully decked out. As they showed here, $7k is not out of the question for a base gun.
The Laugo is also influenced by the EU market where civilian handgun buyers are much less price conscious.
its not sticker shock... the gun isnt worth $5k. plain and simple. its a $1000-2000 gun with an absurd "we're only making x number of these" markup blah blah hype, paid youtube infomercials. someone will copy the design and make it for $1k
The laugo looks cool but thats it, can't even be used in much of the divisions 2011's can. Also uses proprietary parts. Anything happens to a 2011 I can fix or replace it myself.
So a Fire hawk is almost as good as an Alien and costs almost one and a half the cost of an Alien? Rightio noted
That was a yikes to me
Sure, but only one of them can compete in the same division as other non-ported guns. If the Alien does not make sense, then you probably are not playing the games it was built for.
@@trvrfx5 that's not a 'but'' that's 'and also'
It's blasting overpriced 2011s out of the water. 7k for a Firehawk vs 5k for Alien?
@@V3RTIGO222 Yep almost as good, or to put it another not quite as good for over $2000 more ....... Hum .... Yes ... Hum
@@V3RTIGO222 They're still both ridiculously overpriced, that 2011 cost more than four of my last five cars combined. Pretty much any other manufacturer could get the cost of either under a grand, PSA could make them $450 MSRP but there'd be a 50/50 chance they'll market it but never release them.
The Glock guy gets it.
Complains about the reset and gritty triggers... Yep, that's Glock alright. 😅
He gets that the Glock is one tenth the price. Most important feature for most people.
@@mageyeah7763 why buy a gun when you can throw a -glock- err, a rock. ;-)
@@blshouse Yeah, but for the price of an Alien, you can get a Glock plus a nice aftermarket trigger kit, a nice AR, an ACOG, and a bunch of ammo.
SCIENCE!!
I totally enjoyed watching the video
Blood for the blood god
Livers for the Laugo fund
very interesting seeing the recoil in rapid succession across, and im feeling that the sight moving with the slide also caused extra lift as its mass added to the movement as the owner mentioned at the end. Great video!
It'd maybe interesting if Karl has or can acquire the 9mm kit for his FK Brno PSD (If he still has it) to see how it compares to the Alien as it started out as a competition pistol.
There's simply no way a PSD can compete with the Alien. I own both, and the recoil system on the PSD is way too slow. Awesome gun though. Just completely different designs and use-cases. The PSD is just a big CZ75 with a very heavy slide.
PSD is not in the same league at all. Bore axis is higher, more recoiling mass, tilting barrel, it's not playing the same games at all. The PSD makes 10mm feel like 9
I didn’t really “get” the Alien until I shot one with irons at a local match where the Laugo USA guys brought out some demo guns.
A good 2011 can keep the dot within the window under recoil and shoot within shooter’s margin of error just like the Alien (as this video shows), but with irons the difference was night and day.
I regularly shoot a 2011 with irons in 3 gun TacOps division, and the Alien with non-reciprocating irons blew it out of the water. It was the same effect that a “Limited” 2011 with a front sight block would have, only more so because the rear sight doesn’t move either.
I love Russel he is just like yea I got an alien no big deal. Legit every video it’s like someone killed his dog.
24 years in the firearms industry will do that to you.
It was the atf for sure.
That was a fun head-to-head. Looking forward to hearing about the Alien later down the line and whether it's still as good after a year or more.
Karl, that was science. It was a simple survey, but it was science.
I think if anything this is a win for the laugo alien design. I mean it's flatter with no ports compared to a gun with over 100 years of optimization and a large port
@@alexcapps9290 cheaper, too!
Shows alot about the optics position, thanks guys
GREAT INFO/ANALYSIS!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
I have lots of other guns, but for around $400 lightly used with tons of aftermarket support, I'm still a Glock guy too.
Good you skip cringe intros that other guntubers do.
I would have thought Karl would carry a Schofield, not a SAA 😆
Question: What did you have for lunch?
Answer: I’m still a Glock guy! 😂
Hardcore science, what do you feel 😂 awesome 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Riding the reset, the fastest way to get trigger freeze 🥶
seriously, if you have a solid grip, slap that trigger like it owed you money
Neat side by side
sick scarf karl ! great video !
Its a shemagh, theyre cheap and easy to find. The one Karl is wearing is cool indeed
@@laladoodieincarnateor a keffiyah.
@@laladoodieincarnate Watch out for Karens claiming that you are a t****rist though when you wear it.
@laladoodieincarnate it may be a keffiya, can't really tell through video as the difference between the two is fabric weight, and afaik there's some overlap
@@laladoodieincarnate haha yes bro I'm Arab, I have many myself !
Lmao harvesting organs to buy pew pews 😂
As I'm not a competitive shooter, the scientific result is that I have better things to spend my money on!
But still an interesting review.
(Double checks to make sure The Sinister Rifleman hasn't harvested any of my organs...)
Night Hawk vs Fire Hawk. Is this the Honda vs Suzuki thing all over again.
Neat!!
I have been a 1911 guy for over half a century. But I do believe these custom companies gouge their customers. A well maintained standard 1911 that has all its parts polished and cleaned up, functions just as well as the $5,000 "custom" variety. That being said, I think the Alien is one of the coolest sidearms on the market. But, being retired, I can't afford that either these days. And I do not have access to vital organs to sell on the black market.😁
you're obviously not trying hard enough to access organs, then. rent out a field and say "free dirt bike trail". then get a bucket
@@eddyguizonde401 Now THAT is an idea. But as I've gotten older, I'm just too lazy to put forth the effort. Guess I'll just have to admire from a distance and live vicariously through the experiences of others.😭
Over some graph paper, and doing the drill, say 5 times each rather than just 1 (and keeping say, the best 3 from each shooter) would probably illustrate this better.
When the gun isnt yours and you havent gotten used to the trigger, that induces a lot of variable thats pretty palpable in this test.
Need a Korth PRS and Grand Power X-Calibur in that as well. What would a comped alien be like?
Not the 2011 I was expecting, tbh
So why not throw a compensator on the Alien for a fair comparison.
Yea!! Science!! 😁
The thing that appealed to me about the lago which they have yet to support is the fixed barrel would be let you run a supressor with no booster.
Gotta love the B&T Alien specific suppressor that just screws right on!
@Russell Phagan Did you need an adapter for that Optik on the Alien? I am looking for a closed emitter RDS for my Alien. The original optic mount is for C-More like optics, which I consider as to fragile for hard use.
Yes there is a adapter plate to use ACRO style sights available
@leadandsteel- which optic adapter plate do you use to mount the pandora onto the alien slide?
Recoil looks very similar. I wonder if the dot not moving on the alien is the biggest difference.
Is he going to let you mud test the Alien?
Hell yeah
I REALLY want a laugo alien.

everybody was faster with the Alien
I am currently doing the same thing by selling 10-12 guns to get an Alien Creator. IMO its one of if not the only pistol to come out in the last 30 years that it truly innovative.
Would of liked the light removed from the 2011. Seems it added weight the other didn't have that may have mitigated a minor amount of recoil!
Karl Bad Man
Is it just me or did the 2011 seem to recoil more on the first shot?
Like the shooter didn't quite know how hard to drive it until after the first shot.
I'm curious how the Alien would do with a port or comp.
They make one
Garrett gets Glock
SCIENCE!
Woah
More recoil comparison
Alien has less reciprocating mass. The slide weighs less and the optic doesn't add to the momentum.
I'd love to see even more fixed barrel gas system pistols.

Nighthawk is soo boring to me but good too.
🧪 SCIENCE 🔭
Mud test for the alien? I'm kidding of course, both are Competition guns and they are not designed for military use. Please don't do it😊
i cant imagine someone paying $5000 for a production line pistol.... for that much money, it should be fully customized and you talked to the gunsmith who hand finished it and picked your serial number.
Alien may flip less. However, it is not worth the extra cents
The 2011 is MORE expensive than the Alien!
@@alun7006 It depends on which 2011
I have Para(s) and SVI Infinities
I used to have many Staccato/STI
Just add a muzzle brake to the Alien.
Except the muzzle brakes on the market are designed to compensate for conventional pistols. You don't want to put any old brake on that will dip your muzzle down with every shot, it should be specifically engineered to work with the Alien.
For what exacty?
It have minimum climb..
@@joe125ful Right, you would be using it less as a muzzle compensator, and more to simply reduce overall recoil.
@@ostiariusalpha Laugo and need reduce recoil?
Are you kidding right?
@@ostiariusalpha Exactly. And yes, it should be designed specifically for the Alien.
If someone actually used one of these guns for 'social' purposes....not having a brake barking back at you might save your hearing. Competition guns vs street tools should never be assumed to be the same.
Guns loud regardless, your hearing is going to be damaged either way, not convinced that a few rounds with comp vs a few rounds without comp would make a difference.
Because non-comped pistols are somehow hearing safe? Is that what you're trying to say? Sure seems like it.
Unless you're dumping thousands of rounds in a phone booth that's literally a non-issue. FPSRussia still has his hearing and the closest thing to hearing protection he ever wore were gaming headsets as a joke. You WILL NOT notice a difference in damage to your hearing if you only fire two rounds with a comp versus a bare muzzle, you won't even get any noticeable damage. I know because I've shot way bigger guns than 9mm without earpro both indoors and outdoors, and my yearly hearing tests all say I have excellent hearing. My hearing is so excellent in fact I can hear plug in pest deterrents, which don't work btw they just annoy the shit out of me while the rats and spiders ignore them.
I’m surprised you would promote lead & steel. They sent FocusTripp a C&D over a negative review and had a back and forth response videos
They've addressed that before previously. FT was being dishonest and not giving all the info...
focustripp's identity is just burning bridges and then complaining when he can't go anywhere.
Who cares. Both are hideously overpriced
