  • "She said she wanted Buckland to intervene in the case because she felt, according to sources who were in the room, that it was unfair that it was being held in a high-profile court".
New investigations find Natalie Elphicke, defected Tory MP, not only staunchly defended her husband after sexual assault convictions, but attempted to interfere in his trial through justice secretary Robert Buckland, says Gabriel Pogrund.

Just how thick is Buckland? He admits that he covered up questionable behaviour by a Tory MP for years. He should be investigated for breaching the mistrial code. I wonder how many times he has done this and The Times journalists are too thick to ask these important questions

As others have stated, did the Tories forget that all of this happened while she was one of her MP's? Because none of this has "just come to light", which must mean that the Tories were happy to cover all this up for the past 4 years.

Does this mean the then cabinet, ERG plus the Daily Mail, Daily Express, Telegraph and Sun knew about this lobbying but thought it in their interest not to make it public and protect their hard right wing partner and keep her safe. Perhaps they thought lobbying was a good little earner plus undermining the law of the land was without consequences and listed as another one of their Brexit benefits. If it turns out to be true then it does Starmer a favour, he used her to attract some Tory votes from those who are unhappy at the governments record on immigration and now he can now drop her thanks to the leaks, and using this breaking of Parliamentary rules as the reason.

You could argue that having anything at all to do with a person with her views on a few subjects would be pretty dangerous for Starmer and it has made it a little uncomfortable for him since last Wednesday's throw away joke at PMQ's but now he may have been handed a 'Get out of jail' card by the Conservatives and right wing media trying to give her a kicking for her betrayal.
