    Always wanted to do one video about this touching story and the character. It always made my heart wrench and I always considered it most delicate to make a video about it. I hope you'll like it, thank you!

      @@EricaElena Not sure about the competition in those years but his acting was unappreciated and did not get the credit it deserved. The way he portrayed the character of Severus Snape, what he did with just his mimical expressions is astonishing. The contempt he held towards Harry and what he stood for - you can see it in every interaction in the movies. I am not ashamed to say that in the books I liked his character - but through the movies I learned to love him.

      Really? Most misunderstood? Are you referring to the other characters in the story because then that could make senses. If you are referring to the readers and viewers I'm going to have to disagree. There's a whole twist in the end of the story saying "hey he's not that bad guys! Hell he is even kinda good!"

      @@danielkeller9729 Can't it be both? Throughout most of the story the audience could only see for a brief moment what his character was *always* about. So until the very end he was misunderstood by both the audience and the other characters. Even until now there are many who think he was cruel even when he did not have to be - that he could have revealed himself or that he still only left Voldemort for Lily. As this might be true in the moment he accuses Dumbledore of raising Harry to be killed at the right moment it was him who saw this as wrong. What I am trying to say is that I think that there are many who don't buy into his redemption ark but that it was still carried out very well. But hating a character for the whole story doesn't make it easy to see it from another perspective and to realize and understand why he did what he did.

    Snape was called a coward 3 times in the movies.
    First, by Bellatrix Lestrange, in his own home. Much to Lestrange's surprise, Snape disproved her by making the Unbreakable Vow to protect Draco.
    Second, by Harry, after Snape had killed Dumbledore, as his duty had been to do so. He didn't fight back, because Harry was the very one he was trying to protect.
    Third, by McGonagall, after he had to escape rather than defend the reason he killed Dumbledore, for fear of exposing their plan to seemingly redirect the path of the Elder Wand.
    He took verbal and physical beatings, and there came a point where they didn't hurt anymore, because he knew that the work that he was doing was going to ensure Harry's success and the Dark Lord's defeat. He stopped caring about what people thought of him, and continued to care for the child that gave him some memory of Lily, and who gave him some light in a seemingly endless dark tunnel. Harry gave Snape a sense of hope for the future of the Wizarding World, even if he himself wouldn't be around to see it.
    Whether you like him or not, you have to recognise the noble acts of bravery and resilience Severus Snape undertook for the sake of the Wizarding World. Harry would have died without Snape.
    This man is no coward.

      While your mostly right Snape never cared for Harry he never even cared for Dumbledore, all the actions he did where for his obsessive love for Lily. Snape took in many verbal bearings but he also verbally abused many students, he verbally abused them because he was abused, but he was an adult he had a job that had him interact with kids he should not take it out on kids (Neville, Harry because he looked like his bully), snape is a very flawed man, he can’t be looked at as good or bad he is simply a man with an obsessive love.

    It upsets me when people say that Snape was 'obsessed' with Lily; that his infatuation 'wasn't healthy'. Snape didn't only love Lily romantically. He loved her as a friend. His only friend. She was the one person who truly cared about him. That love - that friendship - formed the foundation of his subsequent infatuation. First and foremost Lily was Snape's best friend. And we love our best friends forever. Obsessions are usually fleeting - they burn bright and then they're gone. Snape's love for Lily lasted almost an entire lifetime. His enduring devotion to his childhood friend reshaped - and ultimately helped to save - the wizarding world. Snape may not have been a good man, but he wasn't a bad one either. What he was, was brave, and his love for Lily was pure. Or so I believe.

      Tyata he joined the Death Eaters willingly, had no qualms about the deaths of a father and his son as long as Lily survived, and most importantly he needlessly bullied children. Some of this he grew out of, and I do believe we see some character growth, but the bullying of children simply can’t be excused.
      Despite all this, I still ride hard for Snape, and can confidently say he’s my favorite character of the series.

      Samsun Nahar I can excuse him a lot, but the way he treated Neville was bullying. He constantly told him he was useless, and even told other teachers so. But perhaps I should call it severe mis-use of power instead. I mean I really like the character, but let’s admit it, he should never have been a teacher. He subjected a lot of his childhood trauma on innocent children. I still think he was worthy of giving name to one of Harry’s children though. He did so much good stuff, and went through so much character development. Yet he wasn’t flawless, and the power misuse is a huge flaw of his.

    I love the part when Dumbledore asked "what you'll give me in return Severus?"
    Harry expected him to protest but after a long time he said "anything"..I love this bcz this one small word indicates the depth of his love..he was ready to give anything to Dumbledore just in return of protecting the wife of his enemies..has anyone considered if really Dumbledore was able to save potter family what Snape would get in return?? Just nothing..bcz except Dumbledore nobody would ever got to know that he had sacrificed everything to protect them..
    Snape was such a great man he even forbade Dumbledore to tell anyone that he was protecting harry, he took Dumbledore's word for it.."that I should never reveal the best of you Severus that you are putting your life everyday in danger just to protect the boy?..ok if you insist"..Harry asked several times that why Snape acted as he hated him the most then why he was saving him?? But Dumbledore never revealed the secret reason...
    When after killing Dumbledore everyone hated Snape bcz they didn't know the truth but still he remained focused to his task of protecting harry..I would say he was imotionally very strong to do this..bcz as for example if I was there I would've shouted saying them the truth not able to tolerate all the hatred..but he never revealed his true colour continued his task..Alan Rickman once told that Snape was really focused in his agenda..and he was absolutely right..
    At the time of death Voldemort killed him assuming that Snape killed Dumbledore so Snape was the true owner of elder wand..Jk Rowling confirmed that Snape knew then that he wasn't the true master but he didn't tell him..he died but still didn't reveal the truth..in book when Voldemort asked several times he said " I can't say this"..
    He was the original hero..bcz I read somewhere hero was the one who acted well when there's nothing to gain but everything to loose..he did the very same thing..he protected the son of his enemy but in return got only hatred from everyone and most hatred from harry, he called him coward..the person he was protecting giving his life hated him the most, hated him throughout the whole time..but still he died protecting him...he gained nothing for his good work just loosed everything..
    The people who still hates Snape I'm not angry with them bcz Snape was the most complex character..so understanding him, understanding his sacrifice isn't very easy..
    However I respect him for his sacrifice...it's a very beautifully written character by Jk Rowling..who is just like many of us..She said he was a grey character..yes of course we all are grey like him..we all has flaws, we aren't perfect...as he was..he did some mistakes in his young age..his one big mistake made his love killed..yes it's true but then he changed..Dumbledore trusted him gave him a second chance and at the end of the story it's proved that he was right to trust him..
    Yes his love for Lilly wasn't successful..but still his love was true..not all true love ended up marrying but some ended up like Snape..in Titanic also Jack died Rose and Jack never married but that doesn't mean their love wasn't true..Marrying isn't everything..true love can also possible without marrying..the person who died for love also the true lover..I said all this thing bcz some people called his love obsession I don't know why bcz it's clearly written in book when harry told everything about him to Voldemort "he loved my mother throughout his whole life"..and even Jk Rowling told that if Snape didn't call her mudblood and didn't love dark arts then Snape and Lilly ended up marrying...
    His first word to harry was " I deeply regret Lilly's death" in coded language " what I would get if I add powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood"..(I don't know the proper language if anyone want to know they can search in Google)
    However I really want to thank her for making such a beautiful character who teaches us the meaning of love..the real sacrifice of love..
    R.I.P. Severus Snape and also
    RIP Alan Rickman..

      I think that when you come from a life a darkness, abuse and loneliness, it is actually easier to endure the hatred (as Snape did) than it is to be transparent and vulnerable to receive compassion and acceptance. Because this compassion would put into light all the pain he carries.
      I think that’s also the reason Snape rejects Lily when she comes to defend him against the marauders. It’s less painful to be guarded and defensive. Especially in public. Especially when you are hemorrhaging in pain and shame...

He was obsessed with Lily, called her a slur, would have been disgustingly creepy if Harry had been a girl and looked like Lily, and made the life of an already absurd child (Harry) absolutely horrible. He begged Voldemort to kill James and Harry, but leave Lily alive. He didn’t care one bit about what made Lily happy or what she loved. He didn’t love anyone, and he certainly didn’t have compassion. Snape saved the son of his enemy risking his own life everyday..he died protecting him for his sake of love for Lilly..Harry wasn't his own son, he wasn't his own father but still he cared for him..just think for 1 min if Lilly married him and then if harry was his own son then how much he would love them...the man who can risk his own life to protect his enemy's son then imagine what he would do for his own son..
    Really every girl's dream should've been having a boyfriend or husband who will love her like Snape love Lilly..this type of love is eternal..no matter it's ended up marrying or not..marriage isn't everything

    Snape is the most tragic character ever told in storytelling. He was so selfless and never sought recognition of his heroic feats. He was one of the greatest wizards of all time and yet still had so much potential. Ive always wondered if he lived past the battle of hogwarts, how great of a wizard he would have become. He deserved so much more.

    the fact that some people still boil him down to just an over-obsessive creep that was friend-zoned one time is beyond me XD
    I even remember seeing a comment one time of someone saying that they themselves barely remember their friends from high school so they didn't see what his deal was and why he still cared about her. I was like wtf XD these people can NOT read characters properly

    • @jelcoleys8087
      @jelcoleys8087 Před 3 lety

      No, people boil him down to a massive dick. That is what he has shown us to be throughout the books. Nothing he did was for the greater good, everything was done for out of vengeance. Snape bullied the shit out of students for no reason other than because he could, he would have sacrificed anyone for Lily, he swore off the death eaters not because he saw the error of his ways, but because Voldemort threatened to kill Lily, Snape even tries to get Lupin the kiss of death from a dementor after what happened in the shrieking shack. In the end, everything he did was never out of love for the people he saved, everything was done out of hate towards the one that killed Lily. Voldemort. Had Lily not been killed, Snape would still been a death eater.

      @lahasainaypayaso3386 Před 3 lety +14

      To be honest even though I'm not much fond of Snape as a person. I don't really see him as obssessed to Lily. cause if he were; he should've been possessive to her, and try his best to make James stay away from her or make their relationship like hell or have her in love potion just like Voldemort's mother did to Tom Riddle Sr. when she become obssessed to him. but Snape DIDN'T instead he just let Lily be with James peacefully, even though it hurts him especially given what young James used to do to him. he's a broken soul that become a martyr to a person who tried to know him-understand him. and later TAUGHT him what love is when his abusive parents and other people in his time didn't try to show to him. that's what I see in his character, not a freaking obssessive creep because there's not much evidence of him like that. quite sad that many people are misunderstanding his love for Lily.

    • @eels3658
      @eels3658 Před 2 lety +3

      I think people misunderstand love, which is unfortunate when it’s the major theme of the whole series… The big twist regarding Snape is that he was one of the most loving characters, it didn’t matter that Lily didn’t love him back, that she married his ”enemy” or even that she had been dead for many years, his love for her was still giving him strength to oppose Voldemort and inspiring him to become a better person (even though he still had certain flaws).

    I have read the novel twice and watched the series, and this dialogue "after all this time, always" gets me EVERYTIME! The fact he wasn't revealed till the last chapters of series, made me adore him. He was without a doubt one of the best characters ever written, and he was definitely the one who emotionally suffered a lot! Also, he didn't ever fall in love or marry anyone after Lily, breaks my heart. His love was pure, and if he was not into dark magic, Lily would have ended with him.
    Severus Snape, played by Alan Rickman, will remain a great great character!
