  • Bill shows you how to install a Dee Zee Black Truck Tailgate Assist Shock Kit on your 2007-2014 F-150.

    This Dee Zee Truck Tailgate Assist Shock is for all 2007-2014 F-150s. Trucks are meant to haul things in the bed, and one time or another, the tailgate has probably been opened and allowed to drop down on the cables. While these ables are there for a reason, this can definitely cause some damage over time.
    This tailgate assist is going to mount on the driver side, and is going to slowly lower the tailgate to protect it from damage. This is a very easy installation, and today, we're going to show you how to install it on our 2013 F-150.

    I didn't even know these existed until a few days ago so I immediately ordered the kit and about to install it, seems so easy too. Thanks for the tutorial because my kit didn't come with instructions, it's a great little $15 investment.

    I bought a different brand, but it looked identical to your set-up. You helped me make this happen, perfect...... 👌 perfect instructions! Thank you for the guidance. Mine came with zero instructions. I had an idea, but you gave me the fine tuning. Thank you for the post!

    I just installed one in my Ford 2015 F150. My kit is a little different from the one you are using in this video. No where in the kit tells you what the plastic squeeze bottle was for. I realized it was “Lock Tight” when I opened it up. Your company really should say what it’s for in the instructions. That said the kit really makes a huge difference in opening the tailgate. It’s much easier to open and Ford should sell the trucks with this installed. Great kit!!

    I ordered this and the wrench supplied doesn't work. You better have some tools in your arsenal or you'll have to buy some, like I did. Once I bought the tools AND WATCHED THIS VIDEO, it was a piece of cake, The one step I was stuck on, you showed me how to do it. Thanks again.

      Mine lasted a year (cups failed) but I like it so I'm installing another. Instructions are worthless- hence the video. Having the same issue as Zach and Wade.

    I just did this on my 2013 Fx4. Biggest issue I had was every time I kept closing my tailgate the cable kept getting caught on the assist and sticking out. Maybe because my cable is old and worn out? I bent the top part of the cable inwards just a little bit and now it slides inside the assist and doesn’t show when closed. Pretty simple to do. To add The torx wrench supplied is horrible would advise using a socket. If not careful you could strip the torx screw.

    Could you install two of these? One on both sides should make the gate lower even slower and possibly more sturdy

    Should specify that this does NOT fit the step side models. It does bolt up and all, however the lift support or the "assist" shock is too long.

  • @MrBaloonis

    The screw bent before the anchor folded over... and the tries before that, whole anchor was just screwing off with the nut. Not as easily as 9 turns...

    Spend the extra money and get the tailgate assist from Ford. It provides for a cleaner and less conspicuous install.

    When I try to tighten the nut the whole insert goes with it even when I hold I with the Allen key. is there something I'm doing wrong

    • @freddycjpp3660
      @freddycjpp3660 Před 7 lety

      You need to insert the brass colored nut into the whole and tighten the black nut while holding the allen bolt. That will eventually collapse the brass looking nut to where it stays in place inside the hole. Then loosen the black nut and remove the bolt.

    • @pigspleen
      @pigspleen Před 7 lety +1

      I have the same problem...the brass part also turns and therefore not spreading the insert. When I tighten the black nut and hold the Allen screw in place, it just backs the Allen screw out. Its like the bearing assembly between the 2 washers isn't doing the proper job it is intended to do.

    • @MewKnowNothing
      @MewKnowNothing Před 6 lety

      wade keslering same problem. This is junk. Not at all as easy as he is saying or doing. The brass assembly is not staying in the hole. Very displeased

    Just bought one of these yesterday and concerned that it will not install correctly. My 2014 Ford F-150 FX2 has a elliptical hole in the tail gate on the drivers side instead of a round hole. Will this product still work? Concerned that the nutsert will not completely secure to the tail gate due to the larger size elliptical hole. Any help greatly appreciated. Respectfully 2nd Chance

    The video convinced me not to buy this product. The flemsy insert is a disaster waiting to happen but the worst part is the guy maybe got two threads engaged when installing the ball into the insert. NO THANKS! Of course don't crank it down. Those two threads won't hold! Redesign and try again.
