Hands down, the best singer songwriter in the market for decades. The believability of her vocal has always mesmerized me. It’s one thing to hit your notes, but her vocal attack and delivery make it feel like she’s speaking to you, drawing you into this intimate pleading conversation that is Jolene.
She's still so amazing. Love that her voice is still so amazing. Not all singers still maintain that later in life.

Just heard a repeat of an interview on CBC with the producer, Linda Perry, seen here in headphones doing some light conducting. She said this came together in a matter of days from the first idea of doing it. Dolly liked the idea and Linda had someone put an arrangement together and get the musicians lined up. The original concept was to have Dolly do the vocals after the strings were done, but Linda asked if she wanted to be there for the string recording. Dolly said that if she was in the room she was going to sing, so they set up the mic for her. Linda got the cameras in almost as an afterthought. Got it in one take, and this is it. That's how it goes with true professionals - magic.
This was the first song I learned on guitar one time when I was recording the producer said the only person that he knows of that never used auto tune was Dolly!
I can believe that. Even Whitney and Mariah had to use corrective software on their voices, you can tell by their poor intonation live. Whitney more to drugs, Mariah more to vocal overuse and the inability to let her voice heal. Dolly is not only talented, but she is and has been smart with her voice.

A woman calling out with her very soul to not have her love stolen away by a supposed outer beauty of another woman. The heart wrenching feeling that effects one’s heart listening crying out that Jolene doesn’t cause Dolly’s heartbreak. Such a beautiful and amazing woman Dolly is. I can only hope I can one day sing at least once in my life even a 10th as amazing as this talented woman.

People, be careful when trying to locate this masterpiece! Someone has posted a remix version of Dolly singing Jolene that uses cover art from Dumplin, implying it was used for the movie soundtrack for Dumplin. It sounds nothing like this. I also remember that a few years ago someone posted something labeled 'Jolene Destructo' and I don't recommend it because they just used Dolly's voice "Juh" over and over. No one would there was a masterpiece to be heard (any version by Dolly).
