    I just wrapped up doing the Z3 rack swap on my E30 and I wish these videos were out when I was doing it. Great stuff going on here!

      Blake's Garage Unfortunately they don’t have those heim joints available that you used for your tie rods, did you also get them from their eBay?

    just a tip for anyone doing this, you can disconnect the motor mounts and jack the engine a few inches if you don't wanna bend the tabs. no need to take the whole subframe out. good video though thank you for the help

    Your videos are always so damn good. I've been so busy with school and work lately I've missed so much. Getting caught up is making me jealous. I have some big stuff coming in for my E30. Doing this rack swap soon along with interior stuff and a kit that starts with a P and ends in a andem ;)

    Pretty cool. I went with a z3 rack my self makes the car feel great! Also went with a aluminum steering coupler bushing. I'm not running power steering either for weight savings and to get a better steering feel

    After the manual swap, you should do like a supercharger kit, I want to do one in my 88 cirrusblau but nobody makes a kit I can find. I think you could definitely do one and it might inspire some people that want to try to do it themselves.

    Ayy, just did a E46 purple tag rack in mine. made it unpowered with a condor block off, but thinking about adding the power back if I can get the old hoses to work with it.

    • @BlakesGarage
      @BlakesGarage  Před 7 lety +1

      Primm yeah the old hoses will work you just have to flip the banjo and slightly bend the line. You will see in part 2 of the video.

    • @haystackmalone4038
      @haystackmalone4038 Před 7 lety

      I flipped the line on mine. I'm very curious as to how you will run your line, Mine is up/around/through/behind/ nearly everywhere in that space to get it to line up. Chasebays PS line will be coming soon.

      Landry Houston it’s great on the freeway. You just have to get used to it but that only takes just a few minutes of driving. Absolutely love this modification.

  • @rowansmith7767
    @rowansmith7767 Před 7 lety

    3.8! are you fucking kidding me

  • @SilverZepp
    @SilverZepp Před 4 lety

    Definitely messing with the steering column and boreing it out isn’t gunna help with turning. That’s what the z3 rack is for. That knuckle explanation was kind of useless

    • @BlakesGarage
      @BlakesGarage  Před 4 lety

      It removes slop in the steering linkage. Removes play in the steering wheel.

    • @SilverZepp
      @SilverZepp Před 4 lety

      Blake's Garage the steering knuckle doesn’t bend at all. It literally turns left and right. At no point does it help with steering angle. Thats what the steering Rack is for. The knuckle just connects them. So grinding the metal off and making more room did nothing. Just record a video of how shaving that help. Film it turning left and right and I wanna see what you come up with.

    • @BlakesGarage
      @BlakesGarage  Před 4 lety

      SilverZeppelin their is a rubber rag joint from the factory. I replaced it with a polyurethane bushing that reduces or completely eliminates any steering slop from years of use. If you’re speaking of me grinding on the u joint areas. That helps with extra articulation needed for when the new steering rack is installed. It sits at a slightly different angle but it’s enough that if you don’t do this it will bind. Go do it yourself and you’ll see what I mean. If you’ve never done it you obviously don’t know.

    • @SilverZepp
      @SilverZepp Před 4 lety

      Blake's Garage I’ll be doing a z3 rack conversion soon. Being shipped atm. I’ll keep you updated. I’ll follow on Instagram

    • @BlakesGarage
      @BlakesGarage  Před 4 lety

      Also I think you’re completely missing what the steering coupler modification is for. It’s so the Z3 rack will work not extra steering angle. The angle I’m speaking of at that part is the articulation angle of the shaft itself to connect the steering column to the rack. If you don’t grid it you will bind IE wheel will not turn. The steering rack gives you the quicker steering ratio in combination with the bump steer correction kit. The bump steer correction kit give you extra “steering angle” and also quickens the steering feel due to the closer pickup point of the tie rod. Sorry if that wasn’t clear in the video but I thought I made it pretty obvious. My videos are very detailed it what’s necessary to do the conversion.
