      No. This is the UK. Executions occurred during the week following the third Sunday after sentencing. But the last executions were in 1964, partly because of the Ruth Ellis/Derek Bentley/Timothy Evans cases.

      I have to disagree. No mention of Ruth Ellis' father who was Jewish and subjected her and her sisters to chronic incestuous abuse, probably as part of Jewish luciferian ritual / this is why Ruth slipped into prostitution and booze and speed from an early age. We are constantly enjoined to feel great sympathy for Ruth but not a word of sympathy for her victim or, failing that, for his family and friends. We are told that she went round to where her ex-lover was hiding from her and did serious damage to his car. The police were called and gently encouraged this violent criminal to please go home and calm down. Imagine if the roles had been reversed - if Blakely had been stalking her and then vandalised her car, he would have been arrested hard and charged with something serious. This shows the massive pro/female bias of the justice system, then and now.
      Also, they told us that Ellis fired five shots but, when she went to turn the gun on herself, she found it had jammed. I call BullShit: the pistol was a revolver, they cannot 'jam'. Revolvers are usually six-chambered but the wise will only load five and let the hammer rest on the empty chamber to avoid accidental firings. Ellis probably knew how many rounds she had and so it is entirely possible that her turning the empty gun on herself was for show.
      The public's objection to her execution was just pro/female bigotry. As a barrister commented at the time:
      "If we don't hang Ruth Ellis, who ARE we going to hang? There are far better Ruth Ellis doco.s available.

    Okay. What seems very strange to me right off the bat, is how seemingly shocked and befuddled the narrator is regarding a killing that’s clearly based on sexual jealousy! How many of those are on display? Hundreds? Thousands? Jesus! Maybe the dude’s never been spurned by someone who, allegedly, was his devoted lover. When that green monster digs in, you better be ready. It can do a number on just about anyone. Not hard to see how things can get out of control.

      @amandinedupont777 Do victims of murder only matter if they suffer? Many argue that that taking of a life is an inherent act of cruelty, even if committed by the state.

    • @ZoeAlleyne
      @ZoeAlleyne Před 10 měsíci +3

      @amandinedupont777 And you will find that that is an increasingly less common opinion. Especially since usually those who actually recieve the death penalty are those who have had a pretty seriously painful life and cannot afford the. Est attorneys to get them off.
      Plus, there are what is known as "mitigating circumstances" like the fact that he beat her publicly, repeatedly. That she was so intoxicated that she could not drive and that someone else loaded the gun, told her how to use it while knowing she was not in her best mind, gave her the gun and then drove her to the crime and left her there.
      I do not think that the hypocrisy of the state executing someone they have usually failed in multiple ways is a solution that benefits anyone. It does not deter crime, it does not lower the severity of crimes commited, it does not save money. It just makes some other people, usually those not related to the crime, feel vaguely better or justified.

    The last peacetime execution in Denmark was in 1892 (there were executions due to WWII war crimes). The reason for ending executions stemmed from discussions that started after a gruesome execution in 1882, where a drunk executioner had great difficulty hitting the neck with his ax in front of a horrified public audience.

    @marniekilbourne608 Před rokem +1

    It is hypocritical to sentence someone to death for murder. If murder is wrong and deserves punishment then murdering that person as the punishment is some how different? I don't think so. Should a person that commits murder, in many cases, be behind bars for the rest of their life? Yes. But given that all justice systems are fallible, death is an even more inappropriate punishment. Some innocent people are found guilty and some guilty people are found innocent. People that are rightly found guilty of murder or rape should be kept off of the streets as punishment, for people's safety and to prevent further crimes. Given existing prejudices and fallible justice systems it is not the right or moral choice to decide to take someone's life. It just makes us murderers. If you adhere to the Bible, "Thou Shalt Not Kill" is very straight forward. It should be left to a higher power to judge that person ultimately. We should not take that major choice upon ourselves and call it anything other than murder for murder or for rape of whatever the conviction. Two wrongs do not make a right.

    I am baffled by their in-the-street interviews! In the late 1980s, in the United States, *everyone* at my university had heard that "conundrum" as a child. It didn't give us pause for a second. In fact, we would have answered with "The surgeon is his mother" with the tone of "How can you ask me that tired old thing?" And anyone in a post-industrial country in the twenty-first century is stumped by it? Even the women? It looks to me like women''s equality has completely backtracked in my lifetime. And while I don't agree with executing anybody, I think Ellis was absolutely guilty and should've spent the rest of her life in prison. She was dangerous, and if she were a male stalker today, she would have gotten at least life with parole (although it should be without it).
