Joey is right. Fundamentally zombies don't make sense. The only way they might make any sense is if you think about the parasitic route like The Last Of Us explored in part one. Theoretically, if you could create a zombie, what kinda parasite would it take, what realistic functions and strengths could a zombie actually have, given that they should be in a weakened state surely? Being controlled by a parasite shouldn't add any strength to you, actually you technically should deteriorate over time because the natural function of a parasite is to feed off you and use you to reproduce.

ill say give a few years like around 5 years cuz even if the zombies decay, that only the flesh, not the bacteria/virus/parasites which will still be alive. And there is gonna be that one person getting infected from those things even after the zombies are decaying. A kid would be most likely to get close to a decaying zombie when it was not able to move of how curious they are. 5 year margin would be good enough for all bacteria/virus/parasites to be all gone unless no one gets infected. We don't want it to infect more people to make it stay alive longer or it to mutate into a stronger one which will make the process of eliminating them more difficult.

Look, Garnt... a flamethrower was never meant to challenge firearms. The flamethrower is for dealing with trenches, encampments, tight corridors, etc. where a gun would generally be less effective. The flamethrower is also practically a guaranteed kill, whereas the gun requires aim (or luck). The flamethrower also has a residual effect, as the fire will spread to objects and even other people, thus making it incredibly efficient in specific circumstances.
Against zombies... tough to say. For the sprinting variety, sure, you'll get a few kills, but you'll die. For the Walking Dead style zombies? Now THAT'S a lot of damage. Group them up, set a few ablaze, and enjoy the barbecue. Just gotta take note that they won't stop while they burn, and avoid being collateral damage of the fire when it spreads. Regardless of how the zombies work, though, if their flesh can be burned, then they can be made immobile (can't do anything without good ol' muscle), and thus "eliminated". Then there's the fuel to be considered, which will be just as valuable, if not more so, than ammunition. So I'd say better to use molotovs or makeshift flamethrowers than running around with one of those deathtraps on your back. Oh yeah, right, the weight... yeah, no thank you to flamethrowers unless it's mounted onto a vehicle or something like that.
Hellllllll no to chainsaws. Too slow to cut through, too dangerous for your own well-being, extremely prone to jamming/chain coming loose or breaking/bar snapping/quitting/stalling, plus you have the same problem with gasoline (and 2-stroke oil) or electricity for the electrical powered ones. Seriously... you're better off with a blunt or sharp melee weapon than expecting a chainsaw to be serviceable. They're made for trees, not flesh and bone lol.
Regardless of how highly I think of myself (or others), the noxious fumes from all those walking corpses or even just blood-to-skin contact would be GG. People tend to ignore how zombie blood on the skin would be a death sentence (assuming the virus/parasite/etc. causes infection through fluid transfer). I remember one movie, where the father got a drop of zombie blood into his eye and immediately started turning. You're just... absolutely screwed. Full body needs to be covered at all times, taking off clothing would have to be done meticulously and the clothing disposed of every time (or disinfected, if that's possible), and any cuts/holes/openings would need to be dealt with immediately. Trip on the concrete and make a hole in those new pants? Welp, outfit change time... or else.
But yeah, the other humans would probably kill me/get me killed before a zombie could even get me :( .

Why is Connor so confident about burning zombies? Its shown to be really ineffective as zombies just straight up walk through the flames and keep going.
The correct definite answer is limb damage. You don't need to lop it off, you just need to ruin the leg's ability to support the weight of the rest of the body and then you just make your escape. As for hiding place? What freaking hiding place? If you got strong high walls or structure sure. But you need enough land to farm and cultivate food. Otherwise staying anywhere is stupid because you'll simply die from lack of replenishing food supply.
But the most definite thing you need to fear is humans. Humans without civilisation are assholes. They are savage, selfish and will betray you at the drop of a hat. Especially when their needs aren't met. People will only form tribes if they have a guarantee to survive, but the moment things turn south. You're gonna get shanked by some asshole.

And to do that you need a working digestive tract.
The horror of zombies is that they defy common sense. the dead moving and walking and attacking while having none of the means that allows it to move. And yet it does. You can burn its muscles and tendons and rip out its guts. It will still move. So when you do something as pointless as fire. It sets it on fire and now you got a burning corpse thats still moving towards you.

Years later my younger sister (who went to the same school) would tell me that she and a friend of hers once had found a certain formation of branches and debris stacked up around a pine tree in pretty much the same location, so I don't really know if our little hut had managed to stand the test of time or if some other kids had taken it over after we left-- but either way that thing remained relatively intact for WAY longer than it should have.

Hear me out, imo the best weapon for a zombie apocalypse would be a fireman's axe. They're durable, can easily server limbs, and can be used to pry open doors/locks and you can use it to pull down for escapes or climb over walls with it.
Second thing I'd recommend would be some kind of silenced .22lr if you can get your hands on one.

Crossbow or compound hunting bow, less noisy and much more sustainable than a gun, though it depends how durable the zombies are

The issue with swords is that if you aren't trained in how to use said sword your chances of cutting right though might as well be zero, there is quite a lot of evidence on bones from where old battles were fought where the bones had laceration marks from blade type weapons.

You see Connor the problem with getting a sidekick to make yourself a main character is that it's easy to slip into the mentor or Sensei character and then at that point it's all over for you. Just look at Kamina from Gurren Lagann. The line between main character with the sidekick and mentor figure is a very slippery slope

Ok, what I have learned, Conner is the one with the flame thrower, struggling with a few dozen Zombies because the flames take time to work. While Joey is struggling to just chop one down one swing at a time, the sword probably getting stuck at some point, and he turns to Garnt, who just tells him to get Conner to help so he can save bullets. Then they all die.

  • @NeutralGuyDoubleZero

People overestimate flamethrowers like the'yre disintegrater rays. It will take several minutes to hours to significantly damage a full zombie like that. That zombie within thrower range is now on fire and still coming at you.
Unless it's dead rising zombies which quickly die to almost anything quickly.

  • @fungusfood8097
    @fungusfood8097 Před 2 lety

I'd say chain mail would be a solid choice, especially if you don't mind the weight and have some way of damping the noise, (there are other good armour options, but plate would probably be way overkill) and a good powerful cleaving/cutting weapon. The first thing that comes to mind for me would be an axe or maybe something like a dadao of you were set on a sword.
Thing is about an axe though, is a lot of camp/forest axes make pretty decent compromises between the qualities needed for tool axes and battle axes.

my friends and I built a giant tree house in the woods. So my parents moved into a brand new neighborhood where they were still building houses so the kids I met and later became my friends stole a SHIT ton of wood carried it to the woods and made an actual good tree house we took our time and came up with plans. This was over 18 years ago and it's still standing today. We also built a mini skateboard with a half pipe and ledges growing up as a kid was really fun.

Depending on how much hand eye coordination you have a poleweapon with a hooked blade would be supreme. No matter the zombie type or lore, the pre-existing human musculature is used, a hooked blade to damage/cut the achilles tendon so the movement would be greatly inhibited, on a long polearm to keep safe distance.

Going off of the removing the head and destroying the brain rule for zombies, a flamethrower would get you killed so fast. Sure, a napalm covered zombie would die eventually, but it would probably grab you before it died. Best survival plan is to become conan the barbarian of the hardware store, Protective cut proof clothing and building materials would help a lot I imagine
