    I clean mine in our basement laundry sink. I first whip out as much oil as possible and spray out the filter element with some brake cleaner to minimize the oil going down the drain. I’m basically just cleaning off residue. When done, I blow dry the parts with my air compressor. It’s an easy process.

      K&P makes a fine permanent oil filter. We used to use them. However, we have a LOT of Customers that buy from us that Race. Most tracks require everything that screws on be safety wired. Can't do that with the K&P, we asked them to and they declined. So the one we have now has the nut on the end with a hole in it for safety wiring. It also uses the same stainless steel mesh filtering as the K&P.

      1. It flows more consistently and has less drag on the oil pump
      2. The Finned Billet housing give some extra heat dissipation.

    Can you tell me please what are micron rate filtración of this reusable filter?

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Před 3 lety

      Below is a copy and paste on the subject from this link, where you can find more info- www.dkcustomproducts.com/outlaw-high-performance-cleanable-oil-filter-in-anodized-black-dk-ocof-ab.htm
      At the heart of the filter is a medical grade 304 stainless-steel micronic cloth filter designed to pass a large volume of oil when compared to standard paper filters. The cloth is designed to filter out particles 35 microns or larger. (35 microns is below the limit of human visibility)
      Before you start with the, “my filter is rated at 5 microns and it filters way better,” you need to understand just how the micron rating applies to oil filters. The HD OEM filters and aftermarket paper filters are rated on averages, percentages and multiple passes, so a 10-micron-rated paper filter may be letting particles 100 microns and larger through. The medical grade stainless steel cloth they use in their filters is consistent across the entire surface and is rated at 35 microns, meaning nothing larger than 35 microns will pass through the material, it is an absolute, with paper filters, the rating is an average. Additionally, paper filters have a bypass, so on startup & high RPM the oil is not being filtered at all!

    • @DKCustomProducts

      The finned billet casing does shed heat a little better than traditional filters.
      Where it shines on cooling is that it puts less drag on the oil pump, so there is less engine heat, and a resulting drop in oil temps.

    • @DKCustomProducts

      Good questions, will answer in order:
      1. Paper filters use what is called a nominal rating. The HD OEM filters and aftermarket paper filters are rated on averages, percentages and multiple passes, so a 10-micron-rated paper filter may be letting particles 100 microns and larger through. Even though they can let big particles thru, they also clog easily, causing more restriction and the bypass to frequently activate which results in NO FILTERING. More details at this link- www.dkcustomproducts.com/outlaw-high-performance-cleanable-oil-filter-in-polished-finish-dk-ocof-crm.htm
      2. The Outlaw Permanent Performance filter is rated at an absolute 35 microns. (35 microns is below the limit of human visibility) The bypass rarely, if ever, activates, resulting in much better filtering than the OEM filters, with LESS DRAG on the engine. More details at the above link.
      3. The amount of oil going down a sink is going to be 1 or 2 teaspoons, far less than the fat (oil) that goes down the sink from cleaning one pan from one turkey. Think about all the oil that goes down a kitchen sink from washing dishes, pots and pans. The sink in this video is at a house with a septic system It is 15 years old and never had a problem. Small amounts (relatively) of oil and fats are handled fine by septic systems and city sewer systems. Just don't dump the entire oil change down the sink. :)

      @@DKCustomProducts had an idea to prove out your method. Clean a filter element using your typical method. Then get a glass jar and place a large nut in the bottom to raise the element about 1/2 inch in the jar . After placing the element in the jar fill it with fresh unused oil and let it sit overnight. As you know the oil will be ontop of any water and any chemical residue will be ontop of the oil. Any water will be at the bottom of the jar. It’s a good test and great way to prep the element for reuse.

      @@davidholbrook1118 30 µm about the half the size of a human hair but stock oil filters are in bypassed, quite a bit initial start up and at higher RPMs. It goes into bypass because it can’t get through the filter quick enough for your motorcycle so about 60% of the time from what I understand you’re not getting any filtration on the stock Carly filter that’s made of paper.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Před rokem +3

      It has an Absolute Rating of 35 microns, smaller than the eye can see.
      Harley filters have a nominal rating of 5-10 microns, BUT THAT LETS PARTICLES AS LARGE AS 100 MICRONS THRU THE FILTER. Not including when in bypass there is no filtration happening.

      Agreed that large particles going thru the system is not good...which is why we use these, because they do not let anywhere near as large of particles thru as the Harley or K&N filters.

      Well said, although it depends on how one rides if it is 20% of the time or 60% of the time...either way, 35 absolute is Much better than 5 or 10 nominal.

      We have a septic system and the little bit of oil that comes out of the filter element is small and has had no perceptible negative effect on our system over the last 15 years. Pretty sure that the oils/fats that get washed down the drain cleaning dishes, pots and pans dwarf the amount of oil being washed out of the filter element.
