Tassimco really likes using LEDs for the hand and incandescent fibre optics for the man. Probably because white LEDs are more expensive than red/orange LEDs.
Isaac Pasley I like anyone that has the 6’s with the tops like the first two in the video where I live in Toronto Canada there used to be a lot more with the 6’s with the tops but unfortunately a lot of the newer ones have the 6’s without the tops like the third one in the video I’m hoping one day they will use ones where the 6’s have the tops again although there are a few of the older ones still around that do have the 6’s with the tops but like I said unfortunately a lot of the newer ones have 6’s without the tops and I think the 6 looks better with the top but the 9’s without the bottoms don’t bother me as much as the 6’s without the tops if I had it my way all digital displays like this would have have 6’s with tops
that will have to depend on the manufacturer, since some companies make these with tops e.g. dialight, and some dont e.g. excellence opto, leotek@@michaelsegal3558
You can plug it into a standard outlet if you put a plug on the wires. White wire is AC neutral (wide prong), for both sides. Blue wire is AC hot for the man, Orange wire is AC hot for the hand. (narrow prong). A few modules might have two white wires, these are both neutral, one for each side. There is no ground wire on these so a two prong plug will work fine. Some modules will not light if both are plugged in at once. For countdown you need a real controller or a way of generating a 1 hz flashing to make it count down; when it's wired up it senses when the hand is flashing and memorized after a few cycles to start the countdown.
I picked up a surplus one and can get the hand & walk lights to work, but it looks like all power passes through the controller for the digits, which is how it must be controlled. Anybody have any info about what type of protocol/signals it needs to get the countdown numbers working?
The module learns the sequence after being hooked up and the entire sequence run several times, so you need a controller in order to mimic the sequence of Walk, Flashing Don' t Walk, and Don't Walk several times in a row with no variation in time in order to get the numbers to fire up. Without a real controller a single board hobbiest controller like the Lights to Go Model T2 is the only feasible way to accomplish this.
Do you usually set the full countdown cycle to run for an entire minute? (going by the Tassimco unit) Usually I see them run less than that; the Quincy, MA intersection I mentioned with the Tassimco units has a 22-second pedestrian cycle (the flashing phase begins at 13 seconds), and Brockton's first intersection with countdown signals has the walk phase on for six seconds, then the clearance/countdown phase runs for 17 seconds.
As far as it counting with the Walk, that's how it came. I don't know how to change it even if I wanted to. There's a row of DIP switches on one of the PC boards that I assume one of them changes that function, but I don't have a manual or a sticker saying what switch does what, and I don't want to flip a switch when I don't know what it does lest I damage it or something. As far as the length of the Walk phase, I have it set long in part to give my neon units time to warm up. also I decided I wanted the vehicle phases about a minute and just set the pedestrian phases to match rather than show a Don't Walk for part of the green.
A few other GE countdown signal variations also exist. I've seen ones similar to the older one but with full symbols, and I've also seen another one like that, but with much larger digits, and can only count down when the hand flashes. (Older GE units could be set to count down during the walk phase.)
interesting. i have a dialight unit (dialight 430-6479-001x) but sadly this unit's countdown can't be activated during walk. good to see an old GE varient on sale.

Yeah, we have the newer GE one at quite a few busy intersections here in Brockton MA, including the first intersection to get countdown signals in late 2011-early 2012.
Hi! The Tassimco one is really cool cause it has fiber optics lighting the man and led for the hand this was one of the first led signals, reason for the fiber optics was the white led's were too expensive at that time, here is the dip switch for no count down on walk its number 3, the 2 pots are P1 photocell sensitivity there is a small led at the bottom witch is the photo cell, P2 intensity level for night time ilumination, is the middle one a dialight or us traffic module dialight can count down on walk too, make sure power is off before switching the dip switch
There's a town named corona?? That's sweet!!! Yea there a good cross walk system there popping up in Wisconsin a lot here which is great... And they have the crates on them do yours have shades over them or crates??
I'm not really a fan of countdown PED signals because what good does it do compared to a non countdown PED signal. I like the one in the middle because I like it when the LED's don't show.
I want to know between the second and third one the 9 and 6 look different the second one the 9 and 6 look normal but the third one the 9 and 6 look like a q and b
+Mark Novarra White is neutral. Orange is the hand, Blue is the man. Some have conflict monitors so it won't light if both are plugged in. To run a countdown you need a controller.
Yeah, it's what they call "uniform look" LEDs, to simulate the appearance of incandescent traffic lights. All the countdown pedestrian signals here in Brockton MA are like that.
At 0:12 a cat came! 🐱
You can see his or her reflection on the 1990s Tassimco signal at 0:18.
Cute reflection kitty!😻

I always like the ones that also show the countdown through the "Walk" phase.

I like the 1st and 3rd one
I love the 3 Ed one and it’s scary
I like the first one because it tells you how long you have to walk across

mdcastle Thanks! that is the critical info needed. I could not find that anywhere.

I love these signal lights but my favorite one is the “DONT WALK/WALK”
으음...이 신호등은 왠지 좀 이상하게 생겨서 보기만 해도 너무 웃겨요~!ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ!😁✨😂🎶💚
1---fiber optics

Your pet making that sound is funny
I think the current standards also require larger digits on the signals. The newer GE unit is a perfect example of that.
why do you always comment on every video?
Well I do get around...

The second one looks good
The second one is what we have in Nevada.
Us Filipinos have the different ones, timer on top and 2 colored men on bottom.
The countdown on the left pedestrian signal was activated on the walk sign but did not say 0 at the time the don’t walk sign was steady.

Excellent description... was the first product I designed for the US market. Inspired many others to follow...
@@conraddipietro Oh yes; it's amazing how the countdown pedestrian signals have gotten really popular since they were introduced over 20 years ago.
I like the one in the middle a lot! It looks nicer with a crate or shade over it

Tassimco Countdown 10 to 1
2000's GE 10 to 0
2010's GE 10 to 0
The overall light intensity on that newer GE module is brighter? Is it really like that or it's just me?
I think it's just the way the camera shows it, although the older GE is now broken so I can't directly compare them.
On the tassimco Walk symbol, is that an incandescent Fiberoptic with LED hand?
Yes it is. You can tell by the colour of the white light.
I'm not really a fan of countdown PED signals because what good does it do compared to a non countdown PED signal. I like the one in the middle because I like it when the LED's don't show.

Green Sprite LED.
