- please enjoy this supercut featuring every optical illusion from the under-rated television show BEYOND BELIEF: FACT OR FICTION. the beginning of each episode featured an optical illusion presented by hosts James Brolin (s1) and Jonathan Frakes (s2-4). while the illusions vary in their level of amazement, watching Jonathan Frakes perform them is always beyond belief!
Is there anybody else that is cracking up so hard over the illusion with the rabbit and the duck? It's so underwhelming but the way he narrates it is god-tier which makes it so hilarious.
It lad me to a full blown epiphany

Its like they grabbed something from the thrift shop and said, "yeah that will work."
This is unironical comedy gold dude i love Johnathan Frakes x'D
I love these bits because they’re clearly disconnected from the stories being told. They’re just there because the writers found a cool optical illusion and they had to find a way to fit it into the show
I mean, they are thematically connected to the message of the show for sure, it is underlined quite heavy handedly even few times, but they are satisfying thing to include for the skeptical viewer who might not find the ghost stories that seriously.
I feel like this show spent most of its money on props lol.
I feel the show really came into its own when they cast Jonathan Frakes as the host. James Brolin was good, don't get me wrong, but Jonathan's performances take it up to another level.
James Brolin’s look just didn’t fit the show. He looked like he was gonna talk like he was in a car commercial every time he was on screen. Frakes’ charisma adds a unique charm to the show that almost feels nostalgic in a way.
Agreed.
I agree as well.
Brolin was a bit more serious, while Frakes was more of the funnier guy. Both works well, I also like Brolin, but if you measure it, I would say, that Frakes charme made it out at the end.
Yes
"Look at this drawing that will fool a child. Now add dramatic music and Jonathan Frakes and it's legendary."

Me too
Can it be that this story is fact?
yes,yes it is.
Frakes you.
The entire series was made just for these. Some producer was so enthralled by optical illusions he wanted a TV show to display every one he could find.
Pretty much 🤣

"Apologies to any children we may have frightened. Including ours. "
“This man is dead... no he is actually alive but laying down”
"Just as you might abandon hope in this man's life so is the same in finding the truth, one must hold faith to reach it."
Laying down what? A book. It's "lying down."
"Is this man lying? Not this time. He's standing up...while telling a lie."
I was looking at the last illusion, the checkerboard, and I was wondering
“what squiggly lines is he talking about? I only see straight lines”
Then I put on my reading glasses and I noticed them. My blurry vision masked the little squares that caused the illusion. So I guess having a clear sight does not always mean seeing clearly 😉
That line should have been included in the show 🤣
Perhaps sometimes the only people who can see clearly... are those who can't

Just when you think Johnathan Frakes is coming up second, you find that he is still, Number One.
Imagine how many commercials you would have had to watch to see all this. I remember this program was like 75% commercials
"The truth is often between the lines..." then a commercial taking you for an idiot.
Lol what kind of cut were you watching. Each episode was about 45 minutes, the normal length of an hour-long program.
I used to LOVE this show when I was a kid. Now I go back and watch it not just because some of the stories are interesting, but to have a good time laughing at some of the bad acting lol
Really? Because a lot of big actors got their start on that show 😅
This show was the shi back when I was a kid. I remember we used to watch this show religiously every Friday on Fox. The illusion at 13:50 scared the crap out of me as a kid and gave me nightmares, still remember after all these years. I'll never forget about the story of the disappearing boy at the party complaining about monsters.

The fact that so many of these illusions are absolutely terrible just makes it so much better.
I thought most of the illusions were better than not.

Some of the illusions were featured on a children's television programme from Australia, called the "Curiosity Show".

How are the shoes in the jar an illusion? Like are they not really shoes in a jar? He's like, "Oh, look at these shoes in a jar, crazy right? How'd those get in there?" And then never explains.
The shoes were assembled, piece by piece, inside the bottle. So it was literally in fitting pieces the shoes where put inside. Hope that explains it well. 😊

The cadence of the puns is phenomenal
I took about 5:30 minutes of this video to start opening my mind and eyes to the deception and at that point in the video I started Instantly seeing through the illusion even before he got to explaining it at all. Goes to show that once exposed to these tricks your mind has the capability of almost instantly learning the patterns, at least that was my experience. I wonder if anyone had the same situation happen to them too.

In middle school I had a group of friends, Kevin, Skylar, and Brandon. At the end of 8th grade ALL of them moved away. I went into high school with no friends. The whole summer between 8th grade and freshman year I was always alone. It was 2004, there was no social media, I was too young to drive or get a job, and there was no school so I couldn't even make new friends. I'm actually genuinely curious how the Chinese bronze mirror one works
I was also extremely curious. So here it is:
Robert Temple describes their construction: "The basic mirror shape, with the design on the back, was cast flat, and the convexity of the surface produced afterwards by elaborate scraping and scratching. The surface was then polished to become shiny. The stresses set up by these processes caused the thinner parts of the surface to bulge outwards and become more convex than the thicker portions. Finally, a mercury amalgam was laid over the surface; this created further stresses and preferential buckling. The result was that imperfections of the mirror surface matched the patterns on the back, although they were too minute to be seen by the eye. But when the mirror reflected bright sunlight against a wall, with the resultant magnification of the whole image, the effect was to reproduce the patterns as if they were passing through the solid bronze by way of light beams."
This show looks fun, but also feels like it was written by an intro psych student.
Get outta your studies and watch it
