We show you how to visit Cinque Terre. Our Italy vlog starts out in Santa Margherita Ligure as we hike to the train station and catch the train to Cinque Terre. Once in Monterosso al Mare, we purchased the Cinque Terre train card, which gives us access to unlimited train travel between the five cities and access to the trails between cities.
The hike between Monterosso and Vernazza is spectacular, with views of the beautiful turquoise waters of the Ligurian Sea below. It took about 2 hours for that leg of the hike, and we forgot to bring water. Ouch! The hiking is quite steep in many places, so wear the proper shoes and take plenty of water.
We enjoyed a good meal in Vernazza and took the Cinque Terre Express train to Corniglia, where we ate gelato and John had his “incident” with a local bird. 🤣 Corniglia was our favorite town of Cinque Terre. It was beautiful and was perched high above the Ligurian Sea.
We finished out our day by visiting Manarola and Riomaggiore and then returned by train to Santa Margherita. The day trip to Cinque Terre was a highlight for our visit to the Ligurian coast in Italy. We enjoyed Cinque Terre much more than Portofino, Italy.

As the Retirement Travelers, we have always dreamed of traveling, but we never in a million years thought we would become travel vloggers and start a CZcams channel. But, that is what we did! In 2019, we achieved our goal of visiting every state in the union in our Airstream. We also visited every national park in the lower 48. We are big believers in lists, so of course we plan to see the remaining 12 parks in the next few years.
In 2021, we made the big decision to extreme downsize to just a large and small backpack, each. We started our journey around the world beginning in Central America. We hope that over the next many years, we will have seen many beautiful things, made many memories and new friends, and shared the experience with our children and grandchildren.

Cinque Terre is one of my top 5 places in the WORLD! Just magical!!
I remember observing the same things you did… everyone seem to be elderly, but expert hikers. With walking sticks! I really think those hiking sticks are a good idea, and definitely not for wimps!! Helps distribute weight and stay balanced. I keep wanting to get one!
Cinque Terre is amazing. Walking sticks are great, we just have no room for anything extra as carry everything on our backs! John and Bev

We hiked to Corniglia for gelato too! It was fresh lemon with locally made honey. Absolutely scrumptious! Fun fact, we did that trip for our 20th anniversary. And yesterday was our 30th!

We stayed in Riomaggiore for 9 days in 2019. Very beautiful! We hiked most of the trails between the 5 towns. Keep up the wonderful videos.

Corniglia was my favorite stop on the Cinque Terre . But those stairs are brutal. But worth the Gelato for sure! ❤

The hike between Monterosso and Vernazza is the hardest of the hikes between the cities and takes the longest. We loved the Cinque Terre and have been back 4-5 times with the latest in May 2019. We always have stayed in Vernazza. Loved your video, it brought many memories. My wife had the same experience with a bird at Retiro Park in Madrid and handled it much the same way (except in a bar restroom).

loved it when we went to cinque terre back in 2014. I trekked from Vernazza to Corneglia, and treated myself to some yummy food at arrival in town and got an original painting from an artist set up on those steps on my way back down to the train. Wonderful memories. Love your vlog channel

I’ve got some bad news for you: There is a shuttle bus that runs from the train station to and from the top of the hill in Corniglia. And you know that train pass you bought for €18? With it, that shuttle bus was free!

Love your videos! We plan to visit Italy. With limited time, between Cinque Terre and Lake Como, which one would you suggest for non-hikers?
That's a tough one, because both are so beautiful. Both can be done by non-hikers. You can take the train up to Como and take the boats between the cities. You will love it. There is a train that connects all 5 towns in Cinque Terre as well. The answer is you need to do both.

@@RetirementTravelers You can go online and they will verbally say the name of the town. I know a lot of the names are hard because of silent letters. But you must know that many of your viewers are world travellers themselves. I have been to Europe 82x. Since I was not a continuous traveler I had time to research each place quite thoroughly.
