I'm a little ashamed that I'm on Ann Coulter's side. Luis Gutiérrez's rebuttal was nothing but a bunch of talking points that were guaranteed to get an applause. The same goes for Joy Reid's comment. All she did was talk about her parents (who Ann clearly excluded from her argument). If Ann was so wrong, why could no one properly address her points?

Max Darling I am a 4th generation American and Proud of it. My family had worked hard, never on assistance to make it happen. I get upset at these "dreamers" because they want all the advantages of being an American, but don't want to be citizens. I get it, as children you have no choice, as a teenager, you have no choice. But by 18, you have a choice. And that choice should be. Become a Citizen, or get it out. Very simple. I’m watching this 8 years later. Ann turned out to be correct on everything she espoused, Maher has since changed his opinion on many of his stated views and now agrees with Ann on many of the things she said. Truth will always win.

Although in this case, since the wall has been shown to be largely useless (can be knocked over by wind or sawed through easily) and is way too expensive considering the small benefit it may provide, it does send the message both to Mexicans of “we don’t want you here” and to Americans of “these people are dangerous and you should be afraid”

Have you ever wondered why there are so many Italians-Americans and Irish-Americans in the US? I'll give you an hint: its is not because their ancestors that came to the US had masters degrees. They were both population escaping from poverty, and in the case of the Irish, mass starvation because of the potato famine. The famine killed an estimate of one million people and pushed two milions people to emigrate to not starve to death boarding '' coffin ships ''. A bunch more people died during the journey and who survived the experience became part of the poor working masses of 19th century America. The Italians were fleeing from dire poverty, and sometimes polical reasons.
Today other masses of people are escaping the similar dire situations across the globe. We, as western countries inhabitants, could learn from our mistakes and treat them better than we did with the immigrants that came before, but no. Better to treat them as inhumanely as we did with who preceded them.
The US was built by masses of poor immigrants looking for better lives, as history and statistics shows. Pretending that these evidence do not exists doesn't help you at all. Those Dems were not smug, the were RIGHT. They only made the mistake of believing that a candidate running on an hateful voters base, fake news (or '' alternative facts '' as they called them), racism and ignorance like Trump would have never become president again.

Well, the issue most people see is that when she speaks about "her own" it almost always comes across not as take care of Americans but rather take care of White Americans. In fact, we do come in all shades and colors. Something she fails to clarify time and again. Or if she does she then goes on rants primarily focused on how brown people and black people are bad. That's where the disconnect is. Her verbage primarily comes across as attacks on people who are non-white. There is this underlying current and dog whistles that anyone who isn't white picks up on relatively quick. It doesn't take a genius to figure out. She manages to write in a way that , in her opinion, gives her cover to say some things in her books and out in public shows like this that she likely wouldn't says in a room full of people of color/minorities behind closed doors. I don't think she's evil, I just feel she's knows there's a segment of the population who will buy much of her horseshit and she decided she can profit off them writing in more elequent ways what isn't so elequent at all. As long as they keep buying those books and she keeps getting booked on shows as a rational point of view then she will continue to write the bullshit and continue to make her money. And that's all this is at the end for her, girl needs to sell her books, make her living and grab a little bit of attention. Problem is, many loonies who follow her can take extreme actions based on those anti-Christian values. We all are seeing the rise in hate crimes due to views such as hers getting into he minds of the wrong people. Hard to argue. The kids can’t be faulted but they learn from their parents that cheating the system is perfectly ok because it’s up to them to get even after years of oppression. TheOneTonHammer - No, what I realize is that voter turnout among progressives was abysmal and that Trump effectively rallied the far right with his racist dog whistle comments. Combine that with a very lucky combination of state electoral votes and he squeaked out an electoral win even though he lost by 3 million votes.....he then went on to say that 5 million of the votes were cast by "illegals" (again, he's NOT racist, right?) and then he spent millions of tax dollars investigating non-existent illegal voting because his ego couldn't withstand the fact that he really did lose the popular vote.
All interesting comments but doesn't change the fact that Gutiérrez had the typical commentary that every Hillary supporter did. Trump won't win... but he did. He was smart enough to concentrate on the electoral college votes instead of the popular vote because electoral college votes get you the presidency. Too bad Hillary didn't think of that.

i got to say when this episode first aired i thought very differently than i do now! this debate age well in Ann Coulter favor.
Even Maher himself seems to have come around. In a recent show he pointed to a heavily Latino riding in Texas that shifted to republicans and suggested the fault lied on the dem candidates that seemed to advocate more for would be immigrants than they did for riding constituents.

She argued that because there’s 1000 Hispanics in a US prison compared to one Dane, then somehow Hispanics really are dangerous. When Maher points out that there’s more Hispanics in prison because there’s actually a substantial Hispanic population in the US, Coulter’s brian shuts down and she pivots to talking about how there should be less Hispanics allowed in.
