Above ALL else, the members of Fleetwood Mac are consummate performers. Regardless of the drama, the band went on, and it was the thing they all knew was worth every effort to keep going. And they admired each other's talent, regardless of the romantic mess they had made. ❤️

There's a lot of misconceptions about Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham relationship. The simplest way to put it was toxic. Both parties at fault. Every reaction channel talks of how she made him play guitar to this song but she also had to sing along to Go your own way. As for the cheating remark, they both cheated on each other, that's why it was toxic.

Stevie had to sing backup on I'm So Afraid which was a Buckingham song aimed at Stevie. Lindsey would stretch that 4 minute song about Stevie to almost 10 minutes with an agonizing guitar solo showing the whole world every concert what Stevie made him feel like. Very AFRAID.

The excellent parts for me on this is that from a musical perspective, Lindsay wrote a melancholy and regretful solo, and also did most of the musical arrangements. So the mutual engagement is both of them using old feelings to channel emotional engagement for the performance, much like actors do. Had to be draining to both to do that every night, but did it for the performance, so serious props to both, knowing that seeking out reliving it was hard but necessary for their best story telling

Great pain brought great hits for them. I think when its personal, the emotion pours out in the song. Sadly Christine McVie, the pianist died in November 2022. This song was in response to Lindsays song Go your own way which was a mega hit for them. However, this song was not allowed. Its 20 years later now, so you can imagine the anger and hurt was released finally. Later he kisses her on the cheek and said he still loves her. Made it all worth it.

This band was an enigma from beginning to end. Through all of the generational changes they managed to remain one of the most popular bands of all times. Whether it was Peter Green/Jeremy Spencer at the vocal helm, then Bob Welch, and later Stevie Nicks with Lyndsey Buckingham, FWM had a way of pulling you in and captivating you with their real-life drama played out on and off stage . Not fair to the other bands to have a talent like Stevie Nicks with Lyndsey Buckingham in the stable............. and then you have somebody by the name of Christine McVie on the keyboard with a voice that was a perfect blend of calming vulnerability that could lead you straight into la-la land (Over My Head). Throw in a John McVie and a Mic Fleetwood holding the beat (Mic Fleetwood, the leader of the band from beginning to end; the puppeteer pulling the strings) and you had one of the most prolific bands of all time. “FWM The Complete Illustrated History” by Richie Unterberger c 2016 is a great read. I never grow tired of listening to this band, even after 50 years. RIP Christine McVie

The band wrote a lot of songs about each other. I've never seen another group of people who are so willing to lean into the pain, and the trauma, using it as a way to turbocharge their art. The two of them know what's going on here, and neither of them runs from it. They embrace it, and feed off of it, and funnel all of that emotion into the performance. It's an amazing thing to watch.

They both wrote songs about each other & they're breakup so we get to hear both sides. Silver Springs was a beautiful place they drove to one day when they were still not famous & together & she liked that day so much she used it as a metaphor. Blue green colors flashing I guess is what the water looked like. Took me a while to figure out what she meant. That's a great writer coloring a song with a picture of the setting.

  • @normlee6566

This is why fans adore the band. They expressed their inter-band relationship pain in song and performed it for all to see. Buckingham wrote "Go Your Own Way" when he and Nicks broke up and she wrote, in response, "Dreams." Each song was directed at the other and both had to perform the other's song live on stage for years. The fact both songs were hits made it all the more painful. Nicks also had a brief fling with Mick Fleetwood. Christine McVie was married to (bassist) John McVie before they divorced, but continued performing with each other in the band for decades. This is the most effed up but talented band which deservedly was inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame in 1998. When Christine McVie passed in 2022, so did Fleetwood Mac.

Hi Bisscute, I'm glad you continue to react to Fleetwood Mac, particularly the song Silver Springs, which was solidified when the band performed it at their reunion concert The Dance in 1997, with Nicks and Buckingham facing off on stage, with an evident emotional tension between them. Silver Springs is melodic and nostalgic, reflecting an atmosphere that intensifies as the song progresses, as we could see. Nicks' voice, although soft, is charged with emotion, transmitting both vulnerability and great silent strength, complemented by Buckingham's guitar and instrumental arrangements that complement the depth of the lyrics. For a next reaction, could you do it with Deep Purple performing Moke on the Water? Greetings and a hug from Mexico City.

The album was Rumours, 90% of songs in it about each other, besides being great songs, the drama and all playing and singing was not like any other, so both reasons are why thought of as a top 10 album of all time. Lindsey's reaction to this song was decades after, and in concerts, the final song in each, those two singing his words.called Say Goodbye on final album , Say You Will, 2003. There is a documentary of Say You Will on CZcams, look for it and watch, shows them with drama talks, album's awesome songs.

Stevie wrote this song after she ended the relationship and was already with Don Henley but she's upset about Lindsey's new relationships. Christine McVie (vocals, keyboards, songwriter) - “[Stevie] was going through a bit of a hard time too because she was the one who axed it. Lindsey was pretty down about it for a while, then he just woke up one morning and said, ‘F*** this, I don’t want to be unhappy,’ and started getting some girlfriends together. Then Stevie couldn’t handle it.”
Stevie on writing Silver Springs (Rolling Stone/ 2009) - “[Silver Springs] was me realizing that Lindsey was going to haunt me for the rest of my life, and he has.” Also said she wrote it to haunt him back, that he'd hear her voice on the radio for the rest of his life.

When Fleetwood Mac recorded "Rumours", there was supposed to be TWO breakup songs between (Lindsey Buckingham) "Go Your Own Way" and (Stevie Nicks) "Silver Springs". both songs were written from their own perspective of their breakup. A song needed to be cut for the album, and sadly it was Silver Springs. The look you see from Stevie is one of love and longing, wishing things had been different. The same look from Lindsay. It was a sad situation but one of great emotion. At it's heart, it was a love song expressing those feelings.

The book Daisy Jones and the Six can also be recommended. Alternatively, watch the series on prime. It was loosely based on the story of Fleetwood Mac. There were also songs recorded for the series which start wonderfully with the flair of the mid 70's.

A perfect breakup song that was left off of a perfect breakup album. It's crazy the record company left this song off of Rumours, only for it to be grammy nominated from this very performance around 20 years after Rumours was released.

It was too long in a group of very long Stevie songs. Even though about 30 years later they added it to the CD it still does not fit on the re-released vinyl.

    • @Damkohler11
      @Damkohler11 Před 23 dny +1

I mean the run time for my Rumours vinyl is just under 39 min, and Stevie only wrote 3 of the songs on the album plus her credit on The Chain. I feel like they could've squeezed it in. I'd have rather seen Never Going Back Again as the B-side to Go Your Own Way to keep this song on the record. Since Stevie has said that leaving Silver Springs out added to the tension in the band, I've always thought the band members had a say in leaving it out but it doesn't really matter anymore...gotta just be glad we got to hear it :)

@@Damkohler11 Lindsey's 3 solo songs totaled under 9 minutes - less than Dreams & GDW combined. She wrote looooong songs. Even longer when she brought them to the band as sparse piano demos. SS was 10 minutes long and GDW 12. She refused to have them cut further. Buckingham spent 5 months composing music for, arranging and producing SS. You think there wouldn't be tension in the band if Buckingham who was doing the lions share of the work had his 2.11min genius song cut so Stevie could have another 5 min behemoth on the album instead? Heh.

Keep in mind, this era and time frame was all about the music. To the artists of the time everything outside the music was secondary in their lives. Fleetwood Mac was one of the top 3 bands to come out of the 1970s. They ruled the music world for a long time. This whole concert is this good. IT's called "The Dance" and was held and recorded in Burbank CA in 1997. Fantastic audio and video and a stunning set list. The dynamic and vibes you see and sense between Stevie and Lindsey were there through the night. Wait till you see "Go Your Own Way" later on in the concert. Talk about intense - WHOA

You asked why the band stayed together after all the drama. Partly money and making a living, but also pride in building up something and not letting it get torn down. The original Fleetwood Mac had been big in the late 60s, and then declined in the early 70s, mainly due to other internal drama (Peter Green and Danny Kirwan suffering nervous breakdowns, Jeremy Spencer joining a religious cult in mid-tour, Bob Weston having an affair with Mick Fleetwood's wife, etc.). They moved to Los Angeles to re-build their career, came across Stevie and Lindsey (who had been struggling make it as Buckingham Nicks) and asked them to join the band. They recorded a very successful album called Fleetwood Mac, and when they started on the next one (Rumours), that was when all hell broke loose within the band. But they kept going because they knew they had some excellent songs, plus no one wanted to leave the band or break it up and ruin everything they'd worked so hard to achieve (or get back). So the band came first, and personal feelings took second place, or went into the songwriting.

Now this is one time that a "Live" performance is better than the just the audio! Funny this song was the flip side of a single where Lindsey sang 'Go Your Own Way". Two sides of the breakup. Bisscute, Stevie and Lindsey Buckingham (Guitarist) had recently joined the band and had just one album before with the band album "Rumours" came out. I think Stevie got over it with the help of an affair with the drummer Mick Fleetwood. Also, Christine and John McVie were getting a divorce. React to "You Make Lovin' Fun" and "Don't Stop" with Christine the prime vocalist. I like how you were giving a look to the camera like Stevie was giving a look to Lindsey! 😂

    Stevie Nicks
"Silver Springs" is a song written by Stevie Nicks and performed by British-American band Fleetwood Mac. It was originally intended for the band's 1977 album Rumours, but became a B-side to the single "Go Your Own Way

The Rumors album is about all of their dysfunctional relationships within the band. Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham's problems, and Christine McVie and John McVie's problems. Mick Fleetwood and Stevie even had a brief affair. All in a swirl of cocaine induced immoderation during the writing and recording of the album. It's amazing how all of this dysfunction created such an iconic and timeless album. Artists don't write them like this anymore, at least not of this caliber
