I was one of the lucky ones to visit the park during it's short-lived opening season. The park was basically dead, maybe 100 guests at worst and 200 at best. It was sad because I followed the planning and construction of the park for the two years or so before it opened and I was so excited to see a theme park themed to rock music which were my two favorite things combined. And it was a really good park. Decent selection of good coasters, a really good dark ride, some decent flats and good shows especially the Bohemian Rhapsody night time spectacular. But it opened at the worst time possible and even if they had actually put some money into marketing which they hadn't it still would have failed due to the recession. The worst part is that it's failure means there will never be another rock themed park ever built again. Investors will look back to this and be too afraid to try it again. That's the worst thing about it all.
Careful Jacob! That's FAA airspace for the airport across the Waterway from the park. Planes fly directly over the park. Drones are illegal to fly in that airspace. You got lucky my friend.
It looked pretty low key I seriously doubt the FAA are that stringent and diligent in their monitoring and enforcement but I’ve been wrong before. Not sure how close the airport is in proximity to that park but I suppose if they flew it low enough none would be the wiser.

Red Red Wine was a wine store that offered tasting for free. It was a nice park, but it was far out from everything.
We had a great time twice during our week stay, they had a great fireworks show
This place is only a couple of hours away from me and I never heard of it!! They really did not advertise one single bit!!!

The Moody Blues indoor dark ride was the most awesome part about that park. It was the most relaxing and trippy ride I've ever been on. The Led Zepplin roller coaster was pretty good too.
I asked sally dark rides if they can do something like that again and they said maybe

The biggest shame in all of that was the fact that the people who owned the classic amusement park The Pavilion invested in the Hard Rock park and shut down the grand old Myrtle Beach amusement park to make way for the new theme park.
All these years later and the city still has not taken down those signs on 501 and 31 (smh).
A cool vlog today but it made me feel a little sad because it looked like it could have been a great place to actually go into and have lots of fun.

hey jacob, i think.its cool you did hard rock park ive been wanting to the last week im in north myrtle beach so i see this park all the time by waccamah pottery.. i would love to tell you about some cool areas or spots and even meet up if possible i watch you and adam all the time

I wish this place was still here, I live in Myrtle Beach and I wish their was a legit roller coaster in town instead of just the swamp fox. I remember the Led Zeppelin coaster.

Have you every heard of Holy Land usa in pa also in surfside beach lakewood used to have an amusement park but its gone and homes are in its place it used to be called magic harbor
Thanks again Jacob! It's too bad about this park. I would have loved to seen what it would have been like if the developers dreams actually came to be. I can imagine it would have been awesome, and totally different from any other Theme Park we see today! Yo really have to know the people you are starting a business venture with. One mistake and you're screwed. Sadly you usually won't know until it's too late.
The Drone shots are great. Make sure to make stills. 20 years into the future your shots may what people reference.

It's too bad. Looks like it might have been a fun park. So many business ventures with good intentions do fail for various reasons. Great drone footage as always. Maybe you have a second career as a drone pilot.

Always thought a theme park would do well in Myrtle Beach.
It was the marketing and prices no one wanted to go cause it would be expensive and also they could of done away with a better kids area

Poor mans adsm the woo but hey the more the merrier. I love these since I don’t have the balls to do these myself.
Also it’s so sad to see so much land and resources spent just going to waste like that. You just know some rich corporation rather leave it waste away than redevelop it for affordable housing for people who obviously need housing in the states. It’s an embarrassment of riches and stark reminder of the chasm between the haves and have nots.
So there isn't any roller coasters left

I won't say abandoned. To me abandoned means to walk away from it all leaving everything and unpaid debt. It's closed and cleaned out. It was a very nice concept and original when it opened. To bad it was managed by stupidity.

Ugh these videos about Myrtle Beach Make me CRINGE so much. I grew up there. Finally escaped four years ago. Growing up there was horrible to say the least.. nice to see that is has not changed much. Also, I used to live behind hard rock. It was not open for long. Only went there on opening day nothing special to say the least. Everything would always break down for it being relatively new.
it changed alot, they added new things to broadway at the beach, stinks they took away the disney store and planet hollywood. i live 3 hours away in lexington ,sc but myrtle beach is too pack and its not even tourists anymore
hardrock could have just taken their "intellectual property" and avoided the whole cost of court.....

Not all accurate information here. This was a huge catastrophe, but I'm not sure that the originals (Stephen and John) didn't plan it that way the whole time. It was never designed like a Six Flags or Cedar Fair Park, so don't ever compare this tumor to a real theme park. There were never enough rides or content to justify the price of admission. Also no one seemed to grasp the concept that Myrtle Beach guests are not music culture officianados and the whole idea of the park (with the the wink-wink, nod to drugs and sex) was lost on most of the visitors. On opening day Stephen What's HIs Name arrived in a helicopter as some kind of rock star, but guess what? He's wasn't a rock star, he wasn't cool and but he was a British Carpetbagger. I feel bad about the vendors who never got paid or the vendors who had their payment clawed back by the bankruptcy courts. I worked here, I bought media, I saw the destruction they caused and they are all living high on the hog. Brief, fruitless, nightmare.
so thats why they didnt have the best coasters and I think they told zamperla I need a kids area just give it to me and they didnt theme the kids area

Nice flyin! The Phantom is a really stable platform, isn't it? Given the editing that had to happen, was that about a 3 battery flight? I love the flexibility a UAV gives you on travels like yours! Well done!

Did you ever do the theme park Magic World in Pigeon Forge Tennessee that would be an awesome video
Magic World was pretty much ripped out after it closed. There's a mini golf place sitting on the property now called Professor Hacker's Lost Treasure Golf. But they did incorporate the volcano & waterfall and the ship that was the original entrance to Magic World, so there's still a small piece of the park left. I remember visiting Magic World once in the 80s and it was seriously creepy even when it was a running park.

This place was so fun when it first opened. There was never anyone there, so my family and I would get to ride the rides over and over and over without having to get off. The Led Zeppelin rollercoaster and the Knights in White Satin dark ride were the best. When it became Freestyle park our season passes were honored, but it was basically garbage at that point. The best part of the whole place was the firework show timed to Bohemian Rhapsody every night! Too bad the park failed miserably.
So sad if I was rich I would buy it and turn it into a safe haven for abused women , kids and critters.

This is a brilliant video, without possum 1 we wouldn't have been able to see inside that park and you managed to get us a perfect view of everything in there,really good flying.

Perfect place for condos.
I have seen other youtubers do a video on this park. They actually got in and were able to explore the buildings. It was cool to see the view from above. Really gave me an idea of how big this place really was. I really liked seeing the huge guitar near the water and how it lead to one of the buildings as a walkway. Great video Jacob!
Depending on which current or former area politician or businessperson you talk to it was the massive failure of this park that led to the initial failure (of sorts) of the Dolly Parton attraction. Some say it was caused because a lot of people assumed, incorrectly, that the two attractions were either one and the same or connected which resulted in bad word of mouth for both attractions and vacationers stayed away in droves. The property the theme park is on is considered "prime" but the legal problems and the price alone has caused potential buyers to shy away from it as, assuming the truth is being told by the concerned parties, any purchase would be an "all or nothing" kind of thing with subdivision not being an option.
Do you know I would tell you something Jacob that I used to came here when I was like seven but now I have a story about this place and I would never forget but I would tell you something that is pleased used to have mascots called The banana splits you should search it up.
I remember The Banana Splits from when my son was a little boy! Ah, such memories...

That wasn't the Banana Splits. They were from the 60s (they had their own TV show & the live amusement park segments were filmed at Six Flags Over Texas & Coney Island Amusement Park in Cincinnati, Ohio).
The mascots for Hard Rock Park were 4 bears and a bulldog made up to look like different rock & roll icons. The bulldog had a blue mohawk and was dressed like a punk rocker. The bears were made up to resemble the members of KISS.

450 million dollar investment just to open the same year the economy went to hell.
The abandoned theme parks are my favorite. They do remind me of the old Scooby Doo episodes, but that's not why I like them. Great work with the drone as always.
Just a little constructive advice. Video would have been better with some narration about what you thought we were looking at instead of music. It got boring. Other than that nice piloting.

That's a pretty ellaborate park and you could see a road with some traffic on it nearby. Too bad they couldn't get it going because Myrtle Beach seems like the right place for that!

Robert Aviles Hooters Airlines actually was around for three years and had a fleet of 7 planes. They weren’t that unsuccessful considering that it was owned by a restaurant company that has its employees wear revealing clothes and serves beer and chicken wings.
Aww this video made me so sad... my family had season passes and we went a few times a week in the summer... such a fun place. The led zeppelin/ time machine was so fun. The theming of this place was great!
You should probably try and do a voice over if it's gonna be over 5 min of drone footage. That song is slightly unbearable for that long.
Man! I'm sure the Idea was good at the start, but the cost and making a financial gain was probably not what the owners and investors expected.
It was awesome the first year. We had season passes and went a few times each week. We were able to see Charlie Daniels, Kid Rock and Reeve Carney perform there.
