From what I found online, the park opened in 1966 and closed in Sept 2015 after it was sold to a new owner (the original owner retired). Apparently the park was going to be redone with a western theme and remove the Flintstones (that's why there was western stuff on the train route), but apparently not much has happened with that in the last 2 years. I remember visiting this place in the 70s and 80s. We stayed at the campground. Those houses weren't cabins that guests stayed in. They were like look-in dioramas of the houses the Flintstones and the people of Bedrock lived in and worked in. They were decorated with lots of props and details. In that Stonewall Playhouse was a little animatronic show featuring a prehistoric animal music trio. There was a "drive in" that showed Flintstones cartoons every night too.

i visited this place this summer since it isn’t too far from where i live, and almost every original aspect is gone since they’ve started remodeling. there are a couple little statues left however. and they did stick with the old west theme but it’s pretty generic in my opinion. sad that there’s nothing really special about it anymore

I went here a few times as a kid back when it was still open. I loved to ride the train. There was also a campground for pitching tents. Went with my parents and grandparents when I was about 12 or so, back in 1994.
From what I remember most of the houses weren't used as cabins. They were just for display.

i went to this campground in the summer of 2012! this is like my third or fourth time watching this video (i love how surreal it is), so for those who want to read, i thought I’d share some things i remember about it! i was nine at the time, so some things are kind of hazy.
    - those houses were all like that - you could go in them, but there wasn’t really anything worth seeing. maybe when it first opened there were things inside them, but they were all as empty as they were in this video when i visited.
    - there was an animatronic show in that theatre! i remember fred, barney, and wilma being in it, but dino might have also been on stage. they weren’t in the best condition; i remember my mom describing them as “clunky”. if anyone is interested in seeing them, i have a link to some footage.
    - there was a mini golf course, but you had to pay extra to use it. it was tiny, and wasn't really themed any different than any other mini golf course.
    - those bones were there when i rode the train. again, maybe things were different when it first opened. (also, that t-rex is just as terrifying as I remembered)
that's all i can really recall without it verging into the territory of commentary (fun fact: that snake in the playground was how i found out i have claustrophobia) but if i can remember anything else i'll edit this to add more.

I stopped there during a family vacation in the Summer of 2001. It was a road side attraction during daylight hours at the time. The buildings were not used as sleeping quarters. You could explore and take photos in them. One of the buildings had episodes of The Flintstones cartoon on a constant loop. They used to have life size character statues that you could pose with. The train looked different, but guests could go on a ride around the park with a tour guide who knew his dinosaur trivia and had corny jokes to match. There were more bones scattered along the journey, which I thought were faux back then, but it must have been a mix. The guide called them “fossils”. They had them strategically arranged in dinosaur shapes to look like they had dug them up in actual nature there and were actively excavating them. Looking back, it was quite impressive.

The park was started by two men from Chamberlain, SD who bought the rights from Hanna-Barbera to build it. They constructed all of the houses and statues themselves out of concrete and the giant Dino statue was actually brought here in two pieces and put together when it arrived. They even fashioned an old 1962 Volkswagen to look like a Flintstones car and used it to advertise the park when it first opened.

We would camp in the campground in our RV. I remember going through all the buildings & they were SO cool to see a cartoon come to life! I know nowadays it’s quite common...But in the 80’s & 90’s (I was born in 1980) that place was EVERYTHING! Thank You for the walk down memory lane. It made my weekend. Cheers. 💛

there used to be a bedrock city theme park in my town here in Kelowna BC when i was a kid, used to go to it all the time. but it got torn down years ago along with a water park to make way for a movie theatre, the little cabins weren't for people to sleep in they where just set pieces basically, ours also had a mini golf course and small theatre where they would show Flintstones cartoons.

I have family in Arizona and I went to the one by the Grand Canyon when I was a kid and I so vividly remember it and nobody ever seems to know what it is or what I'm talking about, so it is so awesome to see you go through here and bring up memories and sort of validate my childhood experience.. my lost memory files, if you will lol.. I went there around 1990, I grew up in the 80s watching Flintstones on reruns before/after school. I thought it was great, seeing real versions of the places I've seen on the show, but I think I was in the last generation to watch the show in really big numbers. Sad to see it go, but I can imagine it would be boring for modern kids who just known them as the "vitamin mascots".

Here's the REAL story. The old man created this park during the time Flintstones were first aired in the 60s and the park was very popular. They had characters, shows, and I heard even cars that kids could drive in ( He even bought the rights to do so)
He sold the park over a few years back to a new owner and when that happened the Flintstones rights were not transferred for some reason and it would have cost a fortune to rebuy the rights so the park was abandoned. Right now they are slowly removing everything because it's being turned into a camp ground. I was there about a month ago because I plan to move there and that "facade" in one of the homes almost fell on me. Lol

It's nothing but concrete, that would be worse to sleep on than a bench plus all those "homes" have open windows and no doors, would be absolutely terrible place to sleep on a windy day and certainly in the cold South Dakota winters (and no electricity around for acres besides!!)

City Hall and Post Office at 1:16. If I remember correctly, you could buy post cards and mail them there. Most of those buildings were cordoned off and you were just allowed to peek inside. There were characters made of concrete so you could see who lived or worked there. There was a barber, bank (with bank robber), etc. The Mt. Rushmore lookalike was "Mt. Rockmore". The movie theater played Flintstones cartoons, and you could buy popcorn, etc. in the concession stand. There was a walk up burger shop where you could buy Brontoburgers (buffalo burgers) and huge purple ice cream cones. That was near the big Dino statue. There was a building that housed a grocery store, and I remember one end of it having a laundromat, but that is memories from when I was a kid in the 70s, so I might be wrong on that one. I don't remember the western themed stuff. That may have been added in the later years. Great memories here for multiple generations of kids. It was a real treat to get to camp here, swim in the pool, etc. Kids could just roam free.

I’ve been watching you for a couple years but I guess I started after you went here.
Anyway, I used to come here when I was a kid. I’ve been there maybe 5 or 6 times as a kid.
There used to be some kind of go-cart or golf cart type thing outfitted as a flint stones car that you could ride in. Someone who worked at the park drove it and you could sit in the back seat.
Also all the houses aren’t actually cabins they were just for looking at. 🙂

Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed seeing this. I'm a Flintstones fan but had never heard of this place. So sad that it no longer exists. I hope they sell these structures if they're not going to keep them and don't just demolish this cool stuff. My favorite part of the Flintstones has always been the scenery, the cool houses especially. They remind me of that House of the Future you could tour in Orlando, Fla. Also reminds me a little of Disney's home of the future. I was watching a video on CZcams yesterday about people building Earth Bag houses, they looked pretty similar, except for the roofs. I don't think that Snake would be allowed on a playground nowadays. They protect children to the point of preventing their survival, in today's world. God forbid little Johnny has a scary experience and learns a lesson. The Western theming looks pretty cool, too. If they had to end the Flintstones theme, I think the Western is a pretty good choice. That's a good old fashioned theme I always get a kick out of too, very 1960's, 1970's and I'm all about the retro. There's enough space age, futuristic stuff out there at the big theme parks.

What's up w/the bones? I have Southern kin who still call me Pebbles. A hospital nurse blessed me w/the nickname shortly after birth & it stuck. Evidently, I was a hairy little girl, so someone slicked my hair up w/baby oil & put a ribbon thru it (guess they were all out of bones thx to Bedrock City). The nurse said I looked like Pebbles Flintstone, & the rest is history. As a kid, I had a hounddog named Dino & a marmalade kitty called Bam-Bam, after my dad made me rename them one morning after going out to call in Shirttail & Nothin' for breakfast & getting funny looks from the neighbors. Later had a little West Highand terrier/French poodle mix named Barney who lived for 14 yrs, bless his little heart. Didn't realize how many yrs it'd been since the Flintstones were a "thing," or my familial connection w/the character names till watching this vid. Now I wanna watch me some quality 'Toons! U brought it all back, CB.

We were there in 2011, sad that it is closed. I think there was campground connected with it. It really has not changed much, glad it is not much vandalized yet. The buildings had cartoonish looking people inside and there were statues of the characters that you could take photos with them. I don't think you could ever rent one of the buildings to sleep in the beds, it was just a place to play and tour. They did have a round or oval place with a real car made to look like Fred Flintstones car and you could ride around the track in it, they won't let you drive it. I was disapointed that the car had a floor unlike Fred's car. But of course that would be a major safety hazard.
