I couldn't believe what I read, when I read it first, so I read it again, and found it was true. Vaughn Benjamin, lead singer of the best modern roots reggae band, Midnite, has transcended. For me, Midnite has been my go to, all time favorite music, sound of council for doing right, for unapologetic truth telling through music and poetry, for a unyielding historical accounting of the impacts of the slave trade, and who still benefits from it today, for doing my best to make correct decisions, Midnite and the lyrics of Vaughn Benjamin has been constantly playing for my entire adult life. His poetry was about focus, about spirituality, about cultural trauma playing out over centuries. It was about unveiling the result of greed and all the distractions rooted in money and wealth. It was ALWAYS truthful and ALWAYS addressed the human condition. I cannot convey the depth of sadness and loss I'm feeling right now. He was not family, nor a friend, but has been a tremendous teaching force for me, and I will miss hearing his poetry, master poetry. A prophetic voice like his has never been needed more. A heavy loss.
Yes Ras don't make me cry please...? yes, for me also he was the best even more best involved in the spiritually reggae revival than the Marley's son's. Am so sad 😢😭
Seth M. Newlin life's too short for crying

Vaughn is a true modern mystic
In an interview he said Spirit will come to you if your vessel is clean enough, if the words from the mouth and meditations from the heart are acceptable to Spirit. I agree. True modern mystic.
True. In my own experience, spirit is not difficult to contact and discover within oneself. However, maintaining constant contact is difficult for our necessity to survive often sabotages our spiritual nature. The road towards spirit can be lonesome for it often entails alienation from our culture and its day-to-day mundane operation
Dedicated to Muta Maahtai,Senghor,Lumumba,Nyerere,Yousif Kuwa,Steve Biko,Mandela,Thomas Sankara and to all men and women who died fightin' for Equal rghts and Justice.
Vaughn always on Frontline!

Nooooo, I just lucked up on this genius while listening to another brilliant youth, Fikir Amlak. I've been playing every video I could find on utube, and decided to read the previous comment about transcending and read on to find at the conclusion, that another musical genius is an Angel. Im so hurt now.
Master class and legendary.

Rip Vaughn 😢😢😢😢😢 Jah love
Ron represented more than a blood tie or a musical partnership since the group's journey, but a unity and harmony with the thoughts and feelings of his brother ... I think he and his brother form a unique sensibility.Off your energy and vibration touching the bass, keyboard, or any other instrument he touched within the band, still he had his second voice brightening and further raising the songs and that ... can for those who are in the band .. . will no longer be the same !! FACT!
Alexandre Da Lua
Well said.
Alexandre Da Lua esperons que ronnie se porte bien et qu'il ne lui est rien arrivé
+Alexandre Da Lua Not to mention he was the bands on stage sound man!
Yes I, meh know what yuh ah say, also with Ron's voice filling the background compliments Vaughn I' voice in ah real heartical way. While meh love to listen to dis Idren, that combination with the two just ah wah make I hold ah Medi and just vibes!

His performances were truly mystical and magical to say the very least. Every show I’ve seen him perform was different always original from the head top never the same stylee . Always improvising. The band same way
I first heard him @ SOB's it was so alive and I thank the mother of my children for it 🥰.
I know I've already commented a couple of times already but...I just love this music so
much! It is otherworldly. Absolutely the best roots I've ever heard...and that includes
Bob Marley. I sometimes listen to Midnite for hours on end. Been doing that for years
now. This particular show is so chill...lots of chanty goodness! :D
+Bamford Steele You're not alone. Hours is correct!

+Ras Justice HEIGHTS!!!!!!!!!!!! give thanks, wonlove allways
+Prophesy How were the Cali shows you attended? Are Vaughn and Co. still bringing it even without Ron (who will be sorely missed)?
I hope the live experience is the same as before...something tells me it is!
I'm a little jealous that you're getting to see that many shows in such a short amount of time. That's some serious immersion therapy! :D
Hope you enjoyed all of it.
+Errol Codling I hear what you're saying but when I listen to this show (Denver for Mandela Day) it sounds, looks, and feels just like a Midnite show except without Ron. I guess I'll have to see for myself when they come back to the East Coast. I can't wait for the Ithaca, NY show. That town is very chill and the venue is intimate. I drive down (I live about an hour away) almost every Wednesday night for Reggae Night at The Dock...the house band is made up of members from various other bands like: Mosaic Foundation, Big Mean Sound Machine, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, John Brown’s Body, Jimkata, etc. They're very good.
+Errol Codling No background vocals will be different for sure. Yeah, Ron's bass will definitely be missed. I wonder about the speed of the songs though. I hear what you're saying about the songs being very fast at the shows you went to. However, this video (Denver Mandela Day) is slow and chanty...the way I like it. It was recorded earlier in the year before the shows you attended. I'm hoping that they are just experimenting a bit with regard to uptempo v.s. downtempo songs.
I guess I'll just have to find out when they come East.
+Ras Justice BOOM!
