The ROC suffered significant losses of their army and so the CCP took advantage of it. It's pretty wild to think about how history would have been different had the ROC not lost so much defending the mainland and fighting Japan.

@@JaneJetsin Yeah I pretty much did sleep through history class... and science and all the others. But I was more getting to the fact that super powers are getting more directly involved (not including the US as they always stick their military into other countries business). I was in the military and served overseas, but the wars in the later part of the 20th century and even early 21st century (when I served and before I was a father) were never against super powers Now as a father I understand why my father didn't want me to serve, I watch the news and see what is going on. I know that sounds hypocritical because I know it is, but the wars that are ramping up today are being fought by nuclear super powers, when I served it was to stop a despot, today's and tomorrow's wars will be fought to stop nuclear super powers.
I also know that throughout the 20th and 21st century there have always been assholes wanting other peoples shit, but you cannot compare what is going on today to what was happening in the later part of the 20th century. My sons are also 18 and 17 respectively, I know they will serve if asked, but that is what scares me. You cannot compare Ukraine to Kosovo, Mogadishu or East Timor, they just aren't they same thing.
Sorry for the novel, just trying to explain why I said what I said. I fully understand what you are saying and you are correct. But with the idiots in Washington and the dictators in Russia, China and North Korea; to me at least seems to be ramping up to a full on world war. I see these news pieces and I am reminded of Einstein saying: "I do not know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones". I am paraphrasing, but the only thing wrong with this saying is we know what the weapons are going to be used in the next world war, we are seeing them used right now. If that doesn't scare you nothing will, just saying there's always a war somewhere doesn't comfort a parent who's kids might have to get involved.

@@Sir_Furry_Quokkalot We were in a “Cold War” for decades and fought proxy wars after WWII just EXACTLY like we are now in Ukraine.
Every proxy war had one superpower involved and one or two backing the “underdog” Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan twice, Iraq, Syria and now Ukraine. Only the Middle East conflicts had two smaller nation backed by superpowers.

@@Sir_Furry_Quokkalot I will make one point that we probably agree is different about Ukraine. It is Russia on a direct path to increase its territorial domain. Unlike as Afghanistan where it merely tried to set up a puppet government.
Ever since 1945 and unleashing atomic weapons it was a foregone conclusion that other nations would eventually create them and that sooner or later.
The whole point of Mutually Assured Destruction was to prevent a territorially hungry nation from expanding and threatening that if you try to stop me I’ll start using atomic weapons. We knew eventually someone would try it, like Putin. Now the choice is to either allow him to gobble up every non-nuclear country he wants or tell him no.
Any country with nuclear weapons will be immune to attack because naturally they will use them in defense. If we don’t want every country to have atomic weapons it’s the atomic powers DUTY to protect the other countries from atomic powers.
      Your thoughts?

@@JaneJetsin The people in Ukraine would disagree with it being a cold war. But I do get what you're saying. What worries me with that war is what happens after Ukraine and what is happening in Washington. If Russia are allowed to continue, mark my words; NATO will be drawn into the fighting. This is not a cold war scenario, it is very much happening. Unlike the cold war where Russia or America where arming rebel factions in Africa or fighting rebels in Afghanistan, this time Russia is fighting and it is not the same thing when they are invading a sovereign nation. So unlike the cold war, where east and west were fighting each other by arming different sides in a third world country, this one is being fought outright and when, not if but when, NATO are drawn in then that will open the door to Chinese aggression in the South China seas, because countries that are allies to NATO countries will have their attention elsewhere. This is very similar to what happened in WWII and Japan. De facto wars are not the same thing, history is about to repeat itself. That is my opinion, not saying you're wrong, just saying that there are more than two sides at play here. Because don't forget about Israel and Hamas, Egypt, even Yemen's Houthi militants and that whole mess as well. Just how far can the US spread it's military? So this is not like the cold war, this is very much a hot (mess) war. So what will happen is these wars either go on and on or all out war to stop the wars... so again, WWIII. Don't forget I am not saying you're wrong, but at least you aren't calling me names for having a different view/opinion, so thanks :)

Smuggling is bc we decided to spend billions a year on a war against our own citizens a war on drugs. By waging that war, we've created the largest black market in history. NOTHING can stop the powerful cartels from transporting drugs. NOTHING.
If you're worried about migrants, did you know half of illegal immigrants currently in the US, entered LEGALLY. So build a mile tall wall, it won't stop them. Just admit, you don't want us to get too brown. You don't want ONE CENT of your tax dollars to go toward the needy, ESPECIALLY if they're not Americans, and doubly so if they're brown. I do recognize the very real need to keep immigration to a slow, steady trickle. That way, they assimilate and enrichen our culture. So we can't have too many enter. Luckily, in a nation of 340 million people, we can absob a lot of new ppl without affecting things. A
