- In this video, I share my experiment with trying to dry and preserve dandelion petals for later use. Dandelions are a great thing to forage because every part of it can be consumed. I want to make dandelion tea to use for things like jelly and wine, but I am not quite ready to make it now. I decided to find a way to dry and store the petals so I can make it when I am ready.

I eat a couple of small handfuls of fresh raw dandelion flowers every day when they are in bloom. They heal my body and give me energy. Truly an amazing herb.
Thanks for the video! I dried the petals on an aluminum tray lined with parchment paper in our convection oven under the bread proof setting, which is 100ºF. In my opinion even 100ºF is kind of high for drying flowers for herbal use, so I did spurts of 30 minutes on and several hours off for 24 hours. This morning the petals were still somewhat damp so i'm I'm finishing them off in a glass jar with desiccant. I'm looking forward to giving it a try. If it's good we have a lot more dandelion flowers to pick.
Interesting! I didn't even think of trying settings like that to get an even lower temperature. I'll have to give it a shot! Thanks for watching!
We have found that if you leave the green part on that is not bitter so we leave ours on. A dehydrator works better because you are drying the flowers not cooking them. A dehydrator works lower temps so it is better than a stove. It takes longer but that is the reason you use it. It’s not about how quick you can do it, it is about quality.
I can't wait to see what you do with them!
I run mine thru my freeze dryer. Then into mason jar that was vacuum sealed
Exactly what I needed to know! Thank you for the information! ❤❤❤
Excellent . Thank you.
Thank you for showing how to dehydrate the petals. I have a dehydrator but I think it's quicker the way you did it. I have been making dandelion salads for the past few weeks trying to get the good nutrients into me. Then I thought I want to keep this going so the tea is a great idea. Thank you and have a great day! God Bless You!
Thanks for watching! God Bless!
This is the perfect video! Thank you so much!!!!!😊
Thank you #SaveSoil #Consciousplanet
Could dry them with a dehydrator
Also get a pump to vacuum pack it in the mason jar.
I love mine
I recently discovered vacuum pumps for mason jars on TikTok! I will have to get one and try it out!
🔥
Thanks❤
Interesting, informative and presented well. Enjoyed the video and I did learn. Thanks.
Dehydrator helps!
Also vac seal your jars
So how long do they keep in the mason jar when you do it this way?
I would say roughly 3 years. They continue to lose flavor and scent as they age.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
I believe by washing them, you have rinsed all the pollen off.
I have an old drying rack that I plop on top of a clothing rack & there my dandelions dry. Once dry I pull the yellow petals from the green bitter flower base. I store them in a glass jar. I do this in certain cases. For instance I started the process of collecting the flowers only to discover I didn't have all the ingredients I needed for the salve I want to make. So I did this to give me some time to get to the store or buy online to get needed items. Thanks for sharing your method. I'm going to try that next. My yard is a field of dandelions.☺️✌🏻🫶🏻
Do the yellow parts come off easily this way?
@@llamallamamedschoolmama I felt like they did.👍🏻👍🏻 I did only try a small amount to start out with. Just in case I didn't like the way it dried or separated.
I might have to give that a try! Thanks for watching!
Green is good for detoxifying you'll self.
👍
I took them in yellow part only added to me salad.
Do you think if I want to keep the green part intact this method would still work?
Yes! However it may take longer to dry.
Why not pack them tight ?
If they are packed too tightly, they can become damaged and lose some flavor/scent, so I always try to leave a little extra space.
