This team isn't Stanley Cup ready, at least this year. When the last two Canuck teams went to the finals, we had at least 3 lines we could roll to generate offense and we had a steady all-star goaltender in net. And in both cases, we lost in the playoffs 3 or 4 years in a row to figure things out.
Yeah I’m kinda worried about the boys if we don’t get the odd scoring from a defence man JT or Boeser no one on that roster can score. Would be nice if our $ 11.6 million dollar man could help us out. I mean I’ve got as many goals as him and I make maybe $11 a day.
If that's the regular season against, say, Ottawa, the Canucks challenge and it probably gets disallowed. But in the playoffs against Nashville, not a chance. Tocchet did the right thing to not challenge. Live to fight on. At least he gave them team a chance to fight back. The way the refs were calling the game, there's no chance that comes back. The league obviously had a look at it, and you would hope if they had a problem with that goal, they would have taken action. I personally think it was borderline goalie interference, but you're not getting that call in the playoffs if you're the Canucks - or any Canadian team for 1993 reasons. The officiating overall was terrible as usual, but I don't think it favoured one team significantly over the other. It was just bad. It was more "game management." In other words, they'll call a penalty whenever they feel like it. It's just the inconsistency across the board that bothers me. It makes the league look amateur. Again, I don't know that it necessarily favours an American team over a Canadian team, but when there's a lack of consistency like this, you're going to have a hard time growing the game. New fans are going to wonder what a penalty is, what a good goal is, etc. I watch The Hockey Guy. I see plenty of comments from new fans (from the US mostly) who are totally confused by certain calls, as am I. They have to do whatever they can to remove as much grey area as possible, because that just feeds conspiracy theories, whether they're true or not.
