- Oli has left the basement unsupervised once again.
Today we're getting into news that the Tories are forming a battle plan to spin the local election disaster into a strong general election showing.
Then, we take a look across the wall to Scotland where John Swinney was crowned First Minister today.
Finally we delve into the grubby world of music industry beef, after Kendrick Lamar and Drake duked it out over the weekend.

I am suing PolJoe. The speed at which they went from "let's give the male mayor of London voluptuous breasts" to the war in Gaza gave me physical whiplash.
The PoliticsJOE bounce is what happens when Sadiq Cans goes for a jog.
.. to Benny Hill music
Day 9 of asking for a production team microphone
Why?
I'm not even much of a hiphop head but even I know Drake got absolutely bodied
"Tryina strike a chord but it's probably A minorrrrrrrrrr"
PA dropping "certified loverboy certified " at the baseball stadium was mental.
59:56 for the Kendrick Drake ting
‘Pod Save the UK’ with Coco Khan and Nish Kumar might be interested.
Ed thought he was slick , we all heard that voice crack at 12:00 lad 🤣
I laughed out loud but it went unmarked
The tories playing the little England card in London, when London been multi ethnic since it was londinium is fucking hilarious
I understand your point but that's flat out untrue. London has been overwhelmingly white (and in it's "modern era", overwhelmingly White British) for almost it's entire existence. As recently as the 60's it was 98% white.
You could argue that Roman immigration etc. counts as multi-ethnic (though that wold apply to "Little England" as well), but we all know that's not what nationalists are upset by today.
Getting to the important political issues of the day. Rap beef 😂
I mean, Ava breaking down k-dot's bars and everything 1:00:25
Politics is often so doom and gloom, I love that this show is silly, if I wanted just politics I'd choose one of the other million options.
SILLY? Families being evicted, UK Reputation crashed, support for international wars… Learn humility. Care for the poorest!
@@MarkAHowellexactly! Giz a break from it all!!
@@MarkAHowell I'm not sure you understood my comment Mark, I'm not insinuating that politics is silly, but that this podcast has silly elements, which can be a silver lining to the cloud you mentioned in your comment.
Did NOT expect the Kendrick/Drake beef to be covered by PolJoe but here we are
They did a great job covering it tbf
They could have played it too copyright strikes are off!
TLDR would definitely beef with you
and poljoe would win.
Macadamia but the expression probably originated with roasted chestnuts
i thought maybe that, or maybe cashews/almonds but im guessin it was the victorian or Georgian era candied nuts that are its origin
Can't believe Ed Campbell broke England from the Catholic Church... And don't get me started on the dissolution of the monasteries
The Golden Boiiiii!
Politics Joe doing a rap beef analysis was not in my 2024 bingo card
Oh thank god I was like where the hell are you guys there’s news to faff about !
The kid in a candystore bit about the BBC Newsroom is really quite sweet, it's just nice to see someone unironically enthusiastic about a thing.
Hilarious episode as always. In terms of the most important topic of this pod. The biggest reason Drake is losing/has lost this beef is that Kendrick has brought to light what the black culture has been feeling for a while. Above his questionable antics around young women, Drake has been basically colonising every type of Black music and creating fake accents to go with each. This whole thing has shown that drake really isn't in touch with black culture as much as he thought, lines from Drake saying "You're rapping like you're trying to get the slaves freed" and "you call me a white boy, kinda got a ring to it" etc. Forgive me I was chronically online this weekend and this past week has probably created some of the best rap songs in history as a consequence. I have many more thoughts on this topic that I've been wanting to get out, so thanks for letting me shout aimlessly at your comments like a town crier 😂
P.s. The funniest parts of drakes "I'm not a paedophile" rebuttal is that he brought up things thay were never mentioned, like Milli Bobbi Brown and Epstein.
Also Not like us is one of the best/funniest/catchiest song I've heard in a long time
Looking at Labour as someone who has only voted for the party once (born in 89, however many elections that's made me eligible for) it always feels to me like the take of those on the left, e.g. that Mandelson types want the left to be 'purged', should really be balanced against the fact that many to the left clearly want to see those to the centre (or what they often deem, 'right') removed from the party.
Which side of the party has done best when it comes to winning elections and actually bringing about change in the UK? If you're so 'principled' that you'd rather never be in a position to make change.... Eh.
I had no idea about this Drake-Lamar beef.
After Sean's explanation, i still don't 😅
Private Eye would defiantly be up for beef
Another incredible Ed cut 😂 Sadiq's Cans to Gaza. " He has to walk sideways through doors.... ...Obviously lots of talk about the impact of Gaza"
Only halfway through but this is turning out to be a particularly good episode so far!
22:00 ELECTORAL REFORM NOW
There are plenty: almonds, pistachios, pecans, macadamias, cashews
Please put chapters in so we can skip bits
Golden bollocks is back.
33 minutes and the cuts are amazing. How long did that bit go for!?!?
Didn’t know Ava went to Sussex. Recently people occupied the oldest (and cheapest) halls to protest the building of new expensive accommodation. Loads of people had raves and other events in it. It was pretty sick
Day ? Of asking for a production team mic
Day 9, sorry late too the party today
We had like 3 Occupations in 4 years at Warwick back between like 2008 and 2012, and it absolutely is the case that even knowing they were going on is niche. And most of those were about student fees, the first one was against operation Cast Lead (time is a flat circle innit), which was an issue that had a lot of traction with students.
I was going to point out that on the basis of the council results it would mean the SNP would get no MP's just to point out the utter stupidity in using it as any measurement of the UK as a whole !!
Beef with pod save the world
Warwick University is in Coventry, so students are split between both Coventry South (the campus location), Warwick and Leamington ward and a few in Coventry North West too.
"J Cole is the fool, isnt he?"
What?! J Cole is the mastermind, the instigator, the troll. He catalysed all that with 2 words.
Good podcasting.
We were edging dangerously close to the Pisscast for a while.
All jokes aside I'm actually glad someone explained that stupid beef. Sick of seeing it in the headlines but had no desire to actually look into it 😂
As a green party member and secularist, shouting "God is great" during a victory speech really doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.
Why are there not more comments on Ava's role-playing gag?! Comedy gold.
Politics Joe does funny episodes, but this was top top tier.
The Scottish Govt didn't mirror the XL Bully ban because medium term its pretty obvious breeders will just breed around it and it'll be pointless.
BUT - they should have called this out more and ultimately realised earlier that they would have to mirror it regardless of how poor it is. It was a political open goal that the SNP missed.
Drake Report with Uncle Colm
Cambridge is a pretty safe constituency tbf, the 2nd party to Labour here are the Lib Dems, not a chance we’re gonna get a Tory here next election
I know the Kendrick and Drake diss is less important than the politics for this show but the summary didn't really do much justice to the situation.
Kendrick not only mentions the pedo situation but also accused him of being a coloniser, using black culture to make money, being addicted to pills and gambling etc just in one verse.
Again, I get that the joke was the summary was already long but the explanation made the beef feel more trivial/underwhelming in my opinion.
Regardless, great podcast. I appreciate you covering as much as you do.
Timecode?
hot damn the audio isnt great
Pistachios hazelnuts, cashews.... Loads of nuts are sweet?
1:10:35 - rip my ears, thank you for that
Freddie of the New Statesman you have been given an opportunity. Don’t screw it up!
I don’t know about other universities, but on the point of interacting with student unions, I know that my university student union was not focused on giving the students good prices in pubs events, and other things for students to have a good and financially viable time at university. it felt like a very corporate section of the university higher-ups themselves that didn’t have much power to impact students lives on a daily basis. so as far as interacting with the student union goes, I know for me and the people I knew this was the main reason why we didn’t care for the student union and university politics in general, it just felt like a waste of time.
What you seem to be missing is that J Cole said is “We the big 3 like we started a league but right now I feel like Mohammed Ali” i.e the greatest.
Independence from westminster rule, is such an abstract view.
If only their was at least a couple of examples of Independent nations who ditched Westminster rule, then Scotland should maybe consider it plausible.
Personally as a raven British Nationalists i would set the bar as high as 63 examples, only then would Scottish independence
not seem such an abstract concept.
"No potholes, no education problems, no cost of living crisis before the people of Scotland will consider independence." Oh, FFS. Independence is a means to an end, not the end itself. As for appetite for independence, polls show it persists in Scotland despite what happens at Holyrood, without any official campaigning. There's none in Westminster because they deny democracy, satiating a colonial, emperial mindset of resource plunder.
57:00 I wouldnt even attempt to explain why but my experience as a brown immigrant that lived in scotland and multiple cities in england has been finding Glasgow as the most progressive place BY FAR, at least when it comes to immigration and my casual experiences and conversations around that topic.
shaken to my core that Ed is old enough to have done the old Scottish exam system
What does a “proper British curry” mean? I’m from USA 🇺🇸
Forgot Drake listen to Macklemore Hind’s Hall
Sweet as a nut, possible mondegreen for "The association's" Along comes Mary..."now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch"
to be fair on the SNP people, the last Scottish Parliament election was a year and a half later than the last Westminster election which is more than a third of a term less of unelected premier. Scotland also doesn't have any FM anywhere near the level of failure of a Liz Truss
Also to be fair and balanced the SNP hasn’t had nearly the same capacity to screw it all up.
They’re still doing great comparatively just not a 1 to 1 comparison.
There used to be Cadbury "sweet n nut" could be to do with that !!
Is that different from Cadbury Fruit & Nut?
@@alikazerani I knew once I wrote it I was wrong lol
Never listen to this on a walk. Had to avoid bursting out laughing on the boobs bit
You had a priest ONCE who was gay? ONCE? Is it harder to tell in GB because there are so many Brits? I was a alter boy and the only priest I liked was one of the gay brothers from a local seminary where more than half were accused(1970s when molesting kids was much better than being gay from the popes POV)
Timestamps?
Absolutely disgusting that PolJoe choose to talk about rapper beef over Welsh politics
It’s a real shame they don’t cover more Welsh politics. There’s a lot that’s gone on lately and they spend a lot of time on England and Scotland (though tbf they are the most populated parts of the Union so I do understand) so it would be good to have a bit more on Wales and Northern Ireland.
Ava Santina, my favourite authority on which Arabic words are terror neutral or not.
I hate to admit this, but Ed and Ava are the best duo out of the trio. Sorry oli.
J Cole is sleeping, Schoolboy is the best friend he'll ever have.
Drake's likely done.
Kendrick appeared to say him and Whiney were split on last album.
Kendrick also released all the rughts on his tracks so YT creators got PAID.
Meanwhile twitterbots caught spamming for Drake in votes.
After Katt Williams ish finally got real weird.
That section covered about 5% of the beef and the lines but still well done!
Is there any chance we could get like a hard minute time when talking about politics is going to start lol? So I always know where to skip to
Start a rap beef with the rest is politics; I wanna hear Rory Stewart do a conscious rap about his internal conflict between common sense liberalism and romantic conservatism, Ali Campbell can add in some lil John style stings, (somebody get swedemason in here)
edited verbatim written record of Hansard currently 2 reporters take 45 min to make edited history I think a fun image could say more than words daily if added
I don't know who drake is, i don't know who lemar is
I'd love to hear your guys takes on the US senators threatening the ICC
did not hear about this, what happened
PolJoe vs Novara rap beef dropping in election season 1:19:43
They need a welsh ed
It’s pronounced Paul Messkul not Mes-cal btw
Medium squib.
What? Return a Tory in Cambridge?! The Tories have come third in every general election for decades…
Ava, please don’t peddle the “vote Labour to keep the Tories out” crap, especially when it’s just categorically wrong.
25:45
Haldi in curry will stain.
DEEZ NUTZ
Dough nuts ? :)
Sumn was smoked before dis😅
😀 your all deed canny
Tumeric btw
Politics Joe vs Novara Media let’s goooooo
hi ed. x
You need to be very clear with what is acceptable to the Catholic Church because priests took the idea of having kids far too literally !!
Animal rights welfare 😊 (greens) + 3rd trimester thank you London :)
Ava on 🔥
Also re Allah Akbar there is no such thing as secularism in the middle east, and as far as last I checked the crown was the head of the church of state in the UK - there's gated communities of sharia law in East London, try getting that to fly in France... Ed did great on this there's such a white fright regarding other countries and their practices and beliefs.... the only reason there is hang up about it is because there is a hang over from the times of blasphemy... omg lol roflcopter etc etc insallah
just a footnote when you say Gaza in your wonderful tone its Gaza the ex-Newcastle footballer sick
Love Podcasts, hate Ava's uncle????
Its kinda depressing listening to Ed and Ava joking about the use of Arabic phrases in UK politics. Having lived/worked in many Islamic Gulf states (including the most secular: Oman) over the last 40 years, it saddens me how a phrase like 'God willing' is condemned because of the language it is spoken in, rather then the context it is uttered in. Or is it just that us OAPs have physically experienced different cultures, rather than just Googled them?
Ed really nailed this, it would be more interesting to have someone muslim or specifically from the same background as the mp on to talk about it.
there have been so many blindingly stupid interpretations on islamophobia this last year that would be enhanced by the experience of the victims. Im really interested in the conception of islamophobia based on the 'perception of muslimness' that triggers a special sort of gammon regardless of their relationship to Islam
Tupac isn't from Compton my guy
Ed
How has the Kung Fu Kenny v BBL Drizzy fued made it onto politics Joe, 2024 is 🥜
🤠💜
yum cha with joe pls

I'm quite enjoying the new Catholic News segment. Can it be a regular feature?
You guys make me laugh out loud but .......... I do n't actually understand half of what you're saying !!!!!!
