My version of Jaco Pastorius' "Jam in E" (fast and slow)

- Hi. It's been a long time since my last video. This is something that I'm turning into a reality after years of having it in my to-do list: My version of Jaco Pastorius' "Jam In E", Originally recorded in his "Modern Electric Bass" instructional video and played here on my Stambaugh custom 5-string bass guitar in passive mode with just the bridge pickup on.
Of course, I'm perfectly aware of the fact that the most important ingredient (Jaco's hands and mind) is absent in my version, but anyway I'm trying to express this awesome jam the best I can. Needless to say, all of us who try to play this are just trying to imitate the performance of a flow of ideas that came to this awesome musician's mind on the spur of the moment. That's his biggest and inimitable merit, putting aside the technical difficulties that this piece offers.
Anyway, my intention is to offer an aid for all of you fellow bassists who are still learning how to play this wonderful short piece. Hope this modest effort helps. Thanks for watching! - Hudba

i have been stuck on the first part of that jaco piece for over 2 decades. after watching your video (all week), i have managed to cobble together a passable version that i have fun playing in the privacy of my own home.

Sí. El Torzal Twist. Es un concepto muy interesante, lógico y atractivo desde una perspectiva ergonómica. No trastea porque tal torsión no es solo a nivel del mástil sino de todo el instrumento. El diapasón multiescala es una alternativa de solución al problema que tienen muchos bajos de 5 cuerdas con la "fofa" cuerda Si. Mayor longitud exige mayor tensión, y esta es una buena solución al problema sin que las demás cuerdas tengan una innecesaria tensión excesiva (Sigue...).

Gracias por el comentario. Esteban. Valga aclarar ante todo que el mástil no tiene ningún tipo de torsión. Es perfectamente recto, solo que es más largo de un lado que del otro. Por eso los trastes tienen esa disposición. Personalmente, y a pesar de la lógica diferencia al tacto, no me parece ni más ni menos cómodo que un mástil con trastes paralelos. Supongo que habrá quienes se acogen a este sistema por comodidad o ergonomía, pero no es mi caso.

(Continuación) Porque desde luego, un instrumento más largo como el Fodera de Anthony Jackson es también una solución, pero todo el instrumento se siente durísimo por la tensión a la que está sometida la cuerda Sol, por ejemplo, sin necesidad. Ahora bien, si ha visto el arpa de un piano, deducirá que este sistema de diapasón guarda mucha relación con el mismo principio. En general, las tensiones están muchísimo mejor repartidas. Y yo, al menos, siento la favorable diferencia en ese sentido.

Thank you for your comment! No amp at all here. It's just my bass plugged directly into my PC's sound card (Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum).
