Wow. This is my favorite Jaco song. I played bass for years and never even attempted it. He was in a league I knew I wasn’t in. You crushed it. On a fretless. At like 10 yrs old! Your dad has created a monster.
I’m amazed at how good you are on the fretless. Your fingers moving fast and precise keeping in sync. You’ve really progressed well and quickly from the time I’ve been watching you. I grew up in Oakland Park, two blocks from the Pastorius home'. Jaco's and my Much Older brother friends. He was a very cool gou, gone raf too soon. Thank you for keeping his music alive.

He was a drummer, played trumpet and other instruments. He understood where he should place the bass it would carry the music to places it had never been before. Great stuff Ellen!!

That concert taught me that Jaco was beyond. I listened to the whole concert, but could only hear Jaco. Btw, CZcams, not live. Best way I can describe it is that every note he played came across to me as a pleasant surprise, if not a slight shock. I don't really think there will ever be another bassist like him.
Fun fact about Jaco: He'd sometimes walk up to other musicians and introduce himself thusly, "Hi. I'm John Francis Anthony Pastorius the Third, and I am the best bass guitarist in the world."

This opening theme from Weather Report was my introduction to Jaco. Also, it helps that as a lead guitarist, the album had no lead guitars. So I could get some amazing improvisation out of practicing off of his stuff. I also play 5 string bass. But not that fretless hybrid she’s using here. It’s cool that people on CZcams know about Jaco and other Jazz fusion masters. You don’t hear this ambition on Walmart radio….

Good point. There are many would-be Ellens whose talent never flowers because they grow in poor soil.
With that attitude, I'm sure you'll go far in life! LOL
You miss the whole point of what was said. She was taught by her father who owns a Music store. Many children would live to have a personal music teacher without paying for it, and nobody on this site said she was a dummy dummy.
I've tried with my daughter, but she' ended up with a piano, tried bass but nope. As long as they play SOMETHING, I'm good.
Oh yes, it would definitely level the field. Obviously Ellen is very talented and worked hard to get there, but without the right teacher you can work your butt off and don't get there. I'm also a piano teacher and a lot of my students tried to teach themselves from tutorials and the likes. It often leads to bad technique and what I call well rehearsed errors.

Great intonation, young lady! Is there a flanger in the house? This sound reminds me more of the early Nick Beggs (check out _The Pump Rooms of Bath_ for an amazing fretless tone) than Jaco, but absolutely wonderful job!

A kid playing the great Jaco, there is hope for the world. I was just watching Jaco play this on TV Saturday night.
I'm officially throwing away my Bass in the river now. This child is destroying my feeble attempts to become a half way decent bass play. May I add, I'm 67. She is truly an amazing, gifted Bass player. She will definitely be on the same level as Tal Wilkenfeld in the not so distant future.
The difference, is she actually practices.
Obviously with the opportunity and encouragement of the people around her, but here talent is perseverance.
You are an old man who never devoted yourself to your instrument, it has noting to do with "talent".

Never give up my dude! The key to growth is in not comparing yourself to others and instead comparing yourself to you. For example, say there's a lick or song that you have particular difficulty with. Record yourself playing it to the best of your ability and make it a regular part of your practice routine. From there, every month record yourself playing through it again and then listen to them in direct comparison to one another. Not only will you be able to hear the areas of the piece where you have made improvements, but you'll be able to hear the parts wherein you still need to improve, and you can adjust the emphasis of your practice routine to address your playing.
But even more important than the little tip I just gave you is the thing that I said first. Never give up! We are all told both our harshest critic and worst enemy, and it's difficult to not let that little voice win, but you can do it!
