That’s bad ass! Noice
-- so awesome!
Getting the transponder chip out is a real pain. I recommend an Xacto knife and a heat gun on low or a blow dryer. It will help loosen the adhesive and make the job much easier.
A heat gun would have been a good idea. Thanks for the suggestions
Got mine for my 4Runner in the mail this week. Terrified to take my stock key fob apart but this video takes some of the mystery out of it. Great walkthrough! Now to get up the nerve to carve up my stock key fob lol!
You can do it! Just take it slow and easy and everything will be fine 👍
I would buy a cheap aftermarket one on ebay/amazon. program it to your rig then transfer.
I said screw it and used the dremel. Left a lil bit of plastic/glue on it, and it actually helped it fit snug in the new fob.
It's really cool looking. I'm totally on the fence about this mod. MESO makes great stuff and it looks really nice but at $70 and all the work to get that chip out. I think there are other things I'd prefer to put money into with only having my truck for about 3 months. Maybe later if more reviews are good and none break or something at the pivot point I'd give it a try.
Makes since, everyone needs to prioritize their builds and there money
Love your videos,,reminds me of my daughter, always working on her car..love your truck, did you change your fog lights to match the raptor lights?
Not yet! I am thinking about blacking out the raptor lights
Damn looks like a VW key fob
Awesome video thanks! If you have to change the battery after assembled...say a few years later..do you have to reinsert the pin since you have to take it apart?
Thanks
Yeah, I would, otherwise it would probably recoil the spring. I would simply change the battery while your doing that so you don't have to open it up for many years.
Thanks!
@@jrjalapeno9740 I took my keyfob back apart today to glue down the transponder chip and forgot to add that thing back in...took an hour to figure out the spring system in that thing. What. a. pain.
@@bensthoughts2805 they have a video up on how to do it now.
I saw your description and you said it’s for manual tacomas but does it work for third gen atomatic too?
I love it but got to be an easier way
I just bought this and I’m having a terrible time finding a locksmith for a good price. How much did you pay and where did you go? I’m in Sacramento.
Check out home Depot
how sturdy is the MESO key shank, did I noticed some flex? is it as sturdy as the OE key shank?
Plenty sturdy, I've been using it for a few months now. There's no way that's going to be as strong as the OEM version because this one is on a pivot and made to move.
@@SnailTrail4x4 Thanks, sounds like it's holding up well. I was more so asking about the strength of the steel shank itself aside from the pivot. I could feel the shank twist (when starting the car) on a similar setup for a separate vehicle. I'm really hoping MESO went with the highest quality shanks for this kit at the asking price.
I don't feel it deflecting at all. I can feel the slight rotation between the plastic and shank where the gap is for the pivot
Don’t cut it after! I had to remove mine since it wouldn’t fit in the key cutter and now my spring is jacked up.
Anyone tried using a Dremel to grind away at the plastic near the transponder chip?
Not a bad idea, might be faster but you would have to be super careful.
Is the spring replaceable? After about 3 months my switch blade key will no longer spring into action.
Great questions, mine still works fine... Contact the vender to see if they are replaceable
So you got your key cut before installing it?
I did, but it really confused the cutters with what I was doing. It could be done either way
Their customer service and quality control needs help. 1 year wait, and they sent the wrong one. But they look nice in the box. 2 weeks later still waiting for them to decide send me the correct fob.

Great product but the hardware store made a bad cut on the blank key of my flip fob so now it’s useless. My advice to anyone out there is to make sure you go to a locksmith that knows what they’re doing.
When I went to the locksmith I had them cut a standard key first, then cut my ME-SO key. It cost a bit more but it was a test. Also... The first key isn't exactly useless it can still open the doors, but wont start the truck.
You might be able to contact ME-SO to get another key section
@@SnailTrail4x4 I contacted ME-SO and they do sell replacement blank keys. Already ordered one and this time I’m going to make sure it’s cut properly.
@@frankq19 -- yeah, that's a bummer. Sorry you had to go through that
That sucks bud. I got mine cut at a locksmith today for $7 and they cut it correctly. They even came out to make sure it worked properly in my vehicle before they charged me.
Ace hardware cut mine. It was a young girl in college who cut it. Works great
It’s been a yr an they still don’t have it in stock a real pain !
Sorry
Wouldn’t it be easier to remove the chip from the valet key? That chip is not glued in and wouldn’t require destroying the OEM key.
that is a good suggestion, I didn't know it wasn't glued in. Are all of them that way?
@@SnailTrail4x4 I cut the grey plastic cover off my valet. There was a white plastic piece under the grey plastic holding the chip. It was just a couple cuts with a razor knife and it all just peeled apart. no glue at all.
Got any affiliate codes or coupons?!?
I do not, sorry
So...
How much and what is your turn around time if I have mine sent to you? Lol
Nice!

Where did you get key cut? Price?
I went to a local locksmith up in Auburn, sorry I don't recall the price
I got mine done at a locksmith today and it was $7
@@bensthoughts2805 Which locksmith did you go to for only $7?
@@garrettphillpott7602 Local place. They charged me for a simple single key cut.
My 2014 Corolla S has that same looking OEM key fob could I do the same?
Maybe, it would come down the the button location and the guts
these keys aren't worth the asking price and have a ton of issues. should wait till they update the design
What issues have you hear? I only issue I having is it doesn't want to clasp closed easily, it takes a little effort
@@SnailTrail4x4 the spring is a pain in the butt. I've personally had two spring issues and spent 2 hours a piece messing with it each time following exactly what it looked like on the MesoCustoms video. I also had to sand down the buttons to not set off my alarm randomly in the middle of the night which wasn't a huge deal. There are definitely some improvements to be made IMO especially if you're destroying your $350 retail key for something a little more aestethic.
