my favorite thing about the symbolism for their "relationship" is that when the gemstone and unrefined versions of malachite are put in water it dissolves and releases toxic chemicals, its such a creative way to add in a real world property of malachite.
I'm not sure if y'all picked up on an interesting connection between "Kiki's Pizza Delivery Service" and "The New Lars". Both episodes show Steven unintentionally using his powers to connect with the mind of another human being. We see some nice development between the two episodes though when, upon learning that he's actually been entering Kiki's dreams, Steven profusely apologizes and says he never meant to do that. He seems to have learned from his experience with Lars that going into someone's mind is a big deal in terms of violating their privacy. A small, but nice bit of development there.
Monster Reunion is such a good and heartbreaking follow-up to the Monster Buddies episode. Fun fact: the Gem that Centipeedle identified as her commander (or at least the same type of Gem) appears in the Steven Universe video games. She's a Hessonite and a variety of Garnet ^^

True but even if it was pure filler thats OK too. Too many people hate on filler. What matters is if the episode is good or not.
Even if it's 'plot' filler, it's very much not thematic filler. One of Steven Universe's core themes is the value of communication and empathy, and the 'filler' town episodes tend to take the lessons from the space galactic episodes and reinforce them in more mundane settings.
That's part of what makes Future so cool imo. It really recontextualizes a lot of stuff from earlier in the show. But it didn't make up anything, that stuff was always there if you knew to look for it. They planted these seeds way before they ever knew this show would go that long. So glad they got to really pay it off at the end.
I watched Kikis' delivery service a lot when I was a kid. I always look for the vhs version when I watch it nowadays because they cut a lot of scenes and also changed the music

Alone at Sea is a great episode. I've seen the whole show but I'm always saying, 'Hang in there, Lapis," every time.
Can I encourage y'all to watch Kiki's Flying Delivery Service for yourselves? Give yourselves the gift of watching it without it being content. Do you of course, but incase you need the encouragement to just enjoy it, there's a little bit of it

Malachite actually does become toxic when exposed to water.
Alone at sea wasn't just abuser trying to get back with the abused. Lapis was the abuser and even liked hurting Jasper, just another layer 🥺 I love that episode
True, Rebecca Sugar herself has made clear that the abuse went both ways in Malachite. I also think it's important to really look at the context of how Malachite came to be. In "Jail Break", Jasper directly asks Lapis to fuse with her in order to get revenge on the CG's. Jasper was honest and made her intentions clear from the beginning. Lapis agreed to the fusion but of course we know that her intent the whole time was to trap Jasper. Lapis is the one who, in a sense, lied and manipulated Jasper into forming Malachite. And once they were Malachite, it was Lapis who continued to hold Jasper against her will.
To be clear, I am not trying to say that Lapis is all to blame or that Jasper is innocent. They were both toxic and abusive. And that's what I hope people take away from this, that they were both part of the problem that was Malachite. Because I think it makes the message even more powerful when it is seen that way.

Just to reinforce part of the message of "Kiki's Pizza Delivery Service", you should actually talk to your loved ones and tell them if you're having trouble with something. Otherwise, even if they love you and want nothing but the best for you, they may not know that you are struggling. And if they don't know, they can't do anything to help, even if they would really want to. On the flipside, it is unhealthy to internalize and never vocalize when you're struggling. This behavior has a tendency of wearing you out until you hit a breaking point, as Kiki did. This is honestly a pretty important lesson that even many, many adults should take to heart.
When you say I could sit and binge the show… it’s true, but sometimes my friends and I had to pause (like after “Alone at Sea”) because the themes of the episode or the reveal was SO earth shattering that we needed time to sit with our feelings, process, and discuss. Watching this show as it was coming out and getting to theorize about where it was headed based on easter eggs and title cards is something I’ll never forget. God I can’t wait for seasons 4 and 5. Season 3 is where I always started when I had a hankering to rewatch the show, but mostly because I started this show with so many new people that I got burnt out on season 1.

Just my opinion, but I do think maybe this show might be served a little better if it went episode/discussion/episode/discussion/episode/discussion, instead of episode/episode/episode/discussion? Sometimes certain episodes can overwhelm others.
