It’s fantastic that this video was just posted 9 minutes ago and there’s already almost 100 of us who are playing this with our morning coffee. Keep doing what you do TB! Making the world a better place one video at a time
My friend might hate me for this but I can’t keep it to myself lol, something the 2 of us have been trying this year is taking a big blade Chatterbait, removing the skirt and putting a 6” Magdraft freestyle on there, specifically upside down. It looks great, catches big ones, biggest one we’ve caught this year on that was a shade under 9
@@treehunter1definitely not a jackhammer, however I’ve found with the weight of a Magdraft other it stays in the strike zone pretty well so it balances out. Couldnt tell you how it works with a big worm because I’ve never thought of it until literally this moment 😂 but with a Magdraft it’s really awesome
Another fantastic chatterbait rod for me is a 7’3” MH Shimano/Jackall Poison Adrena! It’s amazing for the Jackhammer baits! Amazing hookup ratio and killer sensitivity to tell when that blade quits vibrating, set that hook baby!!
Chatterbaits are my absolute FAV-O-RITE lure. I have caught more Bass on them than any other lure. 1/2oz Jackhammer paired with a 4” Yamamoto Zako….GOAT IMO!!
Three years later from starting my fishing journey & I’m still learning about new bait sizes, techniques, etc. thank you for the video guys! Walking up to a giant tackle wall can be intimidating, every video helps me feel more confident 🫡
Tim said it towards the end, I have caught some of my biggest chatterbait fish in that moment after I crack the rod, it breaks free takes off & WHAM! Some of the most aggressive bites you'll ever get on a chatterbait! 💪🎣
I actually started making my own with the Queen Tackle Switchblade. In underwater testing they still thump fast and hard, plus I can make them weedless.
Thanks guys. The vids have been amazing like always this month. You've made me and lots of others great confident anglers. So thanks guys we appreciate you
A great budget chatter rod is the Dobyns Fury 735. It's a heavy rod but the lure weight is 1/4 - 1-1/2oz. Loads up super nice with it being able to cast down to that 1/4oz. Awesome ripping through grass too.
One of the most underrated chatterbaits is the Picasso shock blade pro (both open hook and weedless in all of the different blade materials). It's the only non direct connection I use, the way they did it actually works and the carbon fiber blade starts faster than any chatterbait on the market. Paired specifically with a Strike King blade minnow or Nories lady balance 5.8" trailer, doing the quick start and stop/burn burn pause type of action (it is the Rapala Rocco of chatterbaits if you know what I'm saying) or little short pops of the reel handle as you reel it in will make that bait kick out and hunt, but not burn out. Fished the right way, and specifically with blade minnow or the lady balance (the spunk shad and other good chatterbait trailers won't get it hunting like the blade minnow) this bait won't come back in a straight line.
This year I've really found a spot for the Micro Chatterbait in my arsenal as well. Just add 3.5 Spunk Shad trailer or a Beast Coast Magic Flick and it is money, especially in pressured water or for big Smallies up here in Maine.
The G Loomis 883c BJR is absolutely incredible. It also makes and incredible top water toad rod. I got on a toad bite this summer and that rod was the deal enough give when I would set the hook they would get hooked every time.
That Levante Brailist is also an amazing lipless ripping rod, but if you really want a high end version for it, the P5 destroyer bmg. It's got serious backbone but is super parabolic. Works great for ripping lipless and chatterbaits, and working hybrid hunters in grass. Also the Daiwa blx 7'4" limber graphite version and Rebellion version, are insane. In that blx you're talking 4oz ish rod but a true H power.
Spot on with everything said in the video! The crosseyes is the deal around wood, but I have bent out two snaps on them now. I upgraded to the decoy snaps and am back in business with confidence.
As I watch you guys at first light with my coffee, I am thrilled to say I have everyone of these Chatterbaits and trailers….am I a genius…NO, but I’ve watched you for many years and I have to say Thank You Both 🙏😜🍀🎣🍀
Call me crazy but I just got the nrx+ 893 to fish the jackhammer. It may have an extra fast tip, but even loading it under the smallest amount of grass and the rod loads deep into the blank. It pairs perfectly with the metanium.
I love the chatterbaits it's my most favorite bait z-man chatterbait. I caught a 6 to 8 lb crap on a ChatterBait earlier this year. I have a video up on my channel of it I hooked it right in the back fin somehow. I honestly thought I had a monster Bass. Because as soon as the Chaturbate hit the water it took off and I set the hook and then found out it was a carp when I was reeling it in so I made a video. Other than the 5-pounder I got last year that's the best ChatterBait catch to date for me.
Black and blue is my go to green pumpkin as a backup. Also bass pro xps chatterbomb is a fantastic value and is dead close to a jackhammer for half the price
Got a bunch of those xps they smash. It does have excellent components for the price. I bought a bunch when they came out late summer and the employees didn’t even know they had hit the shelves.
My biggest LMB also came off the GP/CHAR spunk shad w a trimmed down GP jackhammer. In about 20 mins I caught a 25 pound bag on the bait, around one bend (a bay) of a creek mouth coming into a lake directly across from THE main point of the small lake, I started on the point and caught a 4, then went across to the other bank towards this bay where a creexk ends and the lake starts there’s a old broke down down with some grass jn 2-3ft of water, 2 weeks after ice melt. That lure is hanging in my wall next to s framed photo of the PB 9.08 LMB
Awesome, love fishing the jackhammer, been using the expride and it's awesome but now I have to get the gloomis. Sounds like my st croix heavy in victory might work like your brallist. Thank you for the info guys!
I know this was Z-man specific but that Berkley Slobberknocker shouldn’t be slept on in the bladed jig category! Little different action with some strong vibrations! Definitely caught some giants on it this year!
Tried the jackhammer the action is great love the bait but our lake has northern pike mixed in with the bass and it gets real expensive fast losing these things on toothy critters any tips Thanks
I had a problem with my reel and I snapped off 4-5 jackhammers in a month so I started to explore cheaper options. I really like the Thunder Cricket. Start up speed is very good and catch ratio is about the same. Plus Strike King is always on sale. I still like Jackhammer and mini-max but the TC is close to the same for me at half the price when on sale.
Go straight braid and it’ll take care of those “cast-offs”. Hate those. Still happens but won’t snap off. I throw on 40# suffix 832 and get plenty of bites.
Got onto a hot Chatterbait bite in upstate New York towards the end of our open water season (October-November) I was using a green pumpkin half ounce jackhammer with a green pumpkin razor shadZ trailer. The bite was so fun and I sadly lost my pb on the last trip but it was super fun!
Edge Rods make a hybrid version of their Delta series which I've been using for my bladed jigs and I love it. Only downside is it took 2 months for the order to get delivered
My ole lady isn't going to watch these videos but if I run my mouth enough she will buy me gift cards so I can't get my own!! Lol appreciate the work fellas
Jackhammer 99% of the time I throw b-hite delight love that color do so well on it I have a ton with the skirt and paint just messed up and the other time fire craw lol but with the new evo I can’t wait to get going to try some new colors
Thank you fellas, one wish tho, can you put a zoom in shot of the baits as soon as you say their name, just a quick 5 second shot of it so I can see what your talking about. My Google hand gets tired cuz I'm searching images of every bait you talk about, EVERY bait 😅. Will always watch your content even if it's tapping my pockets out. 🙏💯

Hey guys if you haven’t try this chatter bat; give it a try and let me know your thoughts. The Grass Piece made from Bass Puzzle which is the brand. I know it’s a JDM bait, please give a try because it best to burn through grass and cover.
I use the Zman product. They have a certain smell. They have changed from the first time I bought them. They need a scented oil… N a spry can zMan. Clear N color. I use bloody tuna and the lure nerve looks the same. I know I’m a chatterbox.
Hey TB, great video. When storing chatterbaits with their trailers, specifically with Zman vs non Zman, how do you do it? Separate box, all together but separate with in the box, or another way I’m oblivious to?

Awesome summary guys but can you let us know what pound straight Fluoro do you go with? I use 15 pound straight when throwing the Jack Hammer on a Medium Heavy Mod Fast 7'2" rod on a 7:1 reel and it works perfect but would like to know if you go as low as 12 or as high as 20 on rare occasions? Also what pound braid to leader? 25, 30, 35 pound braid? I do like 25 pound to a 12 or 15 pound fluoro leader on our medium power moderate fast 7' 2" rods when throwing the Minimax but would like to know what your 2 main line set ups are. Thanks and always love your Buyer's guide videos!
Is Picasso even in the conversation anymore? I know im definitely not seeing them in stores but i remember a lot of previous chatterbait videos where they still at least got a couple mentions
I recently picked up the Expride 7'2" MH Glass rod and planned on putting 40lb maxcuatro and 16lb saltimate fluoro leader. How long do you think I should make the leader? I've always used straight 15lb fluoro on my old 7'2" st croix mojo glass heavy/moderate chatterbait setup and want see what braid to leader is all about with chatterbaits, especially now that i have a lighter powered rod
I’m intrigued by your recommendation for the 7’2” Expride glass. I’m a huge Expride fan, and I’ve been thinking about one of the glass rods for crankbaits. Could either the 7’2” or 7’6” effectively do double duty for chatterbaits and crankbaits? What are the tradeoffs?
Use your fingers to bend the blade completely straight and yes a better snap helps. I use a #2 American Eagle or Bass Pro snap just cause they’re cheap and easy to get. Still an improvement over stock.

🤯🤯🤯 Awesome!!
Great information on swim baits. Something I need to fish more to get more confidence in them. Thanks for the tips
Another fantastic chatterbait rod for me is a 7’3” MH Shimano/Jackall Poison Adrena! It’s amazing for the Jackhammer baits! Amazing hookup ratio and killer sensitivity to tell when that blade quits vibrating, set that hook baby!!
Very interesting! We'll have to give that a try.
For such a huge category you nailed it as simply as it could get, thank you Tim and Matt ❤👏👏

We use the heavier for deep water bottom hopping. We really haven't run into the time when we would deep swim it.
